There were pink Japanese anemones in the garden of my house in West Cork when I bought it and they give me a beautiful cottage garden every year with virtually no input from me. Yes, they tend to fall over later in the year, especially because it's windy here, but they just need a little bit of support around the outside of the beds. The flowers last until the first hard frost in November, and when I chop them back in December the new growth for next year is already starting. Between them and nasturtiums, and the wild ox-eye daisies that grow in the ditches around here in May, all I have to do is stand back and let nature do its thing. And the pollinators love them.

My grandma is quite fond of Japanese anemones. They have taken over a garden and have been popping up all over the yard in different gardens. She calls them her Enemies. She tries to rip them out but the bees just love them so she can't do it if they're still in bloom...and by that time she lets them reseed and it starts all over.

Cool!! I wondered if you had featured my garden anemones when your video began. I was pleasantly surprised that you did. I have had the pink one in the ground a few places. But, it’s too vigorous in those small groupings. I’ve rethought and I’m going to move it to an open area so it can be enjoyed better. I bought a pot of Honoré last spring at a nursery sale. Almost lost it due to drought. Someone missed watering it daily. I caught it just in the nick of time and prayed it back to life. I was so happy the day I peered into it’s pot and saw that a little sprig of greenery had re-emerged. I am so excited to have seen a glimpse of your specimen and learned of cultivation strategies. You have definitely provided excellent insight. Thank you so ever kindly for sharing your passion with us.

I have planted so many of them and I love Honorine Jobert the most. But, while they market them as deer resistant, the deer here leave the foliage alone, but eat the flowers. I do good to get to see even 1 or 2 blooms a year off mine. Dang deer. Very helpful to see the comparison between rudbeckia Goldsturm and the helianthus.

Love Japanese Anemones particularly the single flowers; unfortunately although I planted a few including Honorine Jobert no success but perhaps they will pop up one day and surprise me. At the moment I would be delighted if they ran rampant lol!

If you can find where you planted take root cuttings cut inch long lay flat just cover up they will come just a thought

I find that Honorine Jobert does not run riot in light soil, though the others certainly do. PS Lovely garden. PPS Where there's a will, there's a way - make time to dead-head. It makes such a difference.

Planted a tiny one not knowing what it was. It took over everything. Lovely looking but a proper bully. Dug it out and a decade on I still find the odd shoot though pavement cracks though thankfully it's almost completely gone now... I hope.

They look beautiful in your garden, but in my garden here in Melbourne Australia, Japanese anemones are a weed, with roots forever lurking under the soil. As soon as I take my eye off them (under the soil!) they pop up again as leaves and if they get to flower, I feel demoralised. So I cannot bring myself to like them, let alone love them. Give me 1000 Rudbeckia goldsturms and I will give you a thousand Japanese anemone roots, lurking under the soil, waiting to pounce! :) Somehow you can control them, but unfortunately, I cannot.

I’m I sunny dry Oakland California where water 💦 very expensive. I have a few but they like a lot of water here. So unfortunately much of what you showplace doesn’t work. But that said I love your show and one day plan to move to Washington or Oregon where water is not an issue. I love your show

Hi Robrick. I live in Spain with similar climate and thinking of putting them in my garden. Are they in full sun or half shade? Full sun here is hell. How do they grow (despite of the water necessities) with your dry climate? Cheers, Ana-Maria

Ana-Maria Valerio hi Ana they can grow in full sun but they perform best in morning sun until about 12 o’clock is the best. They love rich moist soil kind of stays moist soil, not wet. As Jon said they will spread very very rapidly they’re kind of invasive in moist soil but they’re very beautiful very very very easy to grow and they give you a spectacular fall color where many other plants are starting to prepare for winter. Most of the plants he showcases are very easy to grow the only problem is is where I live in California water is very very very expensive my water bills like $350 every two months and that’s only on a quarter of an acre and they only tried to water my Japanese maples etc. other things I plants that don’t require regular watering. Don’t you just love John. I’d love to live in an area that water wasn’t an issue and have such a lush garden that they have that he has in Ireland

They grow very well. I kind a let them dry out but during the fall it’s easy to tell when they need water because the flower heads get a little droopy which says hey I’m thirsty and I give them water and they perk right back up so yes they do very well in this climate there like daylilies they do much better if you give them some water

Yes, he is very funny. Thank you so much for answering. Here the water is not so expensive although it should... I've got dripping water which helps me a lot in summer . Without it everything would die. Again thanks for being so kind. So difficult to get on with this climate.

Because water not an issue is like an endless supply of ice cream to me I’m getting ready to retire I don’t know if you think know anything about the California bay area where is super super expensive to live here and I’m looking into even Argentina at selling my house and moving somewhere that is much more affordable and would allow me to live like a king ha ha

In central Indiana anenomes are a nightmare. Most invasive perennial I ever planted.(Those persicarias are amazing.)

My anenomes are no way as prolific in flowering as these. They have max. 10 florets on each stem and stand up straight in semi sun and flower better with some wet not dry conditions. Reliable and pest free but you'd need to give them some boundaries like some rocks around them to contain the running root system. Easy to divide and move around.

I love them but find the white one a little boring, if it was flowering in June it’d be a stunner but at this time of the year I think you need some richer colours PS. tell the camera pan to give his lens a quick polish 😂
