I found a big dose of comforting humor and seasoned knowledge from these two in this Highlights episode ... we're all at different stages of our gardening paths, but the connections we all have going down that path bind us together with our common struggles when it comes to getting it done, and family that can sometimes thwart or enhance our goals. We deal with family life, through success and struggle. Laura and Aaron are young yet, and we get the privilege of them letting us into their lives, to watch them realize their dreams, allow us to be acquainted with their extended families, managing expectations, compromising when necessary, then cutting losses and moving on. What of that don't all of us do, in gardening and in our personal lives? That's why I always look forward to their videos and posts. Thank you to them, it's really only their posts I look forward to more than anything on social media, because they are real.

I think PW is within their rights to require the white pots, and customers obviously benefit by clear branding (i.e. not worrying about knock offs; ease of identification when shopping etc.). Perhaps it wouldn't be such a contentious issue if they were to drop the price or subsidize the branding/packaging for the growers. And perhaps make the pots in a few more of the standardized sizes so that growers could switch over their operations without missing a beat. Even if PW has to bear some of the cost, I think they'd gain far more in good will and added revenue than they'd lose. Edit: It also occurred to me that perhaps this requirement is the first phase of a plan to roll out the biodegradable plastic for all their plant containers. If that's the case, that would be a big deal and less to complain about.
@maynardgreenhouse2 жыл бұрын
Yes I was thinking maybe that’s why they want to dump these on us. We’re not allowed to reuse old pots either which honestly how would they know. We can opt out of buying the pots if we use the plants for baskets or they are for landscape use. Calculating how much we would need was a totally pain.

That cost is then passed on to the consumer. Our local growers increased their prices from $2.49 to $5.00 per annual due to the cost of the cans, the trays and the Proven Winners shipping cost. @@plot10homestead58 I do believe the increase is exorbitant; however, according to several growers I spoke with they are also required to purchase the trays. As a marketing executive (ret), I completely understand PW wanting a consistent brand. If their pots are non-standard sizes however, that can be a big problem for the growers. In the end I support the growers not ordering as much from them and or dropping them. This gives plenty of other companies a chance to shine with their plants.

@@GardenEvolution I agree this will be good for other brands. It would be so nice to see more diversity in plant offerings in garden centers.

I have found that when I’m out shopping I look for the white Proven Winners containers as a way to determine if Proven Winners products are offered where I’m shopping. Not all places where I live carry their products although I feel like in the last couple of years more nursery’s are and I’m grateful about that!

Bio Cleaner is the US equivalent of the product you used on the window boxes. You can get 2 tubs of it for $12.95 on QVC. I bought my cleaner several years ago, and I have yet to open the second one, as it goes a long way. It's good for molded plastic, such as your window boxes are made of, stainless steel, porcelain, flat cooktops, countertops, plastic outdoor lawn chairs, and many other applications in and outside of the home. It is my go-to product and has saved us so many times when other cleaners will just not do the job! Sorry if this sounds like a commercial, but I just can't say enough!!

On the Proven Winners subject….THANK YOU for explaining all that! I completely get wanting to save money and Proven Winners plants do cost more. HOWEVER, I have tried all kinds of flowers and Proven Winners plants simply are amazing performers. I am to the point where I get so excited to walk into a nursery and see that white can! I love it because I know I’m getting an amazing plant. I agree with Aaron…it’s like Apple, Nike, or any other top brand…you get what you pay for! I wish garden centers would realize when those white cans stand out and draw us to them more than a black can.

I TOTALLY get Proven Winners. In Norway, nothing is ever unbranded. I so understand their want to brand their work, and let consumers easily seek out their products. Totally understandable.

I only buy Proven Winners. Their plants are far superior to others. Laura you’re such a great spokesperson for them. I can buy one PW plant and it will perform as if I bought 4 plants. I hope they can work things out with the growers.

Monrovia has great plants, Plant Delights, and First Editions have wonderful quality plants. PW is like disney, okay but a pain sometimes. They advertise, but then don't provide a product -I look around and often times can't find the plants I want, but there are other cartoons to watch.

No theyre not and they arent "their" plants either...it just depends on what plant exactlyyou are looking for. Proven winners is just Marketing

Forgot to mention that Southern Living Plant Collection is wonderful quality, if you watch Linda Vater's videos she partners with them and grows many of their things in her yard. Also Better Homes and Gardens has a line of plants, my Lowes carries their plants. Anyone who limits to only PW is doing themselves a dis service. PW has great things; so do many other brands.

Funny thing is I've never noticed if i have purchased proven winner in the past but this year I went looking for it. Because of the white container (that I recognized from your channel) I easily spotted it and purchased my super million bells (i think that was the name) and I'm enjoying them! Thank you for all your videos

Personally, I don’t have an issue with PW making growers use their cans, though I do find it sad only because my local garden center does grow them on in their own branded cans, they have the signs and tags indicating they’re PW plants but the cans are theirs. I LOVE their cans, they are not only sturdier then PW cans so I can save them for other uses but they are beginner friendly, my local garden center has two colors for their cans, yellow and purple, all sun loving annuals and perennials are grown in the yellow cans, all shade loving are grown in the purple. It makes it super nice for beginners and even experienced gardeners because they can clearly see where what is just at a glance. So, although I’m not mad about the change, I am bummed.

You know yall, thank you for being appreciative of your employee taking the initiative to do things and not getting mad and harping on them for taking the initiative without your permission. I have been in work environments where it was “you don’t do anything without asking me” but then received complaints about asking them because “they have so much on their plate”. That may be why some people are timid about asking and not just do things that are common sense. I know for me, it took away my confidence in just “handling” things.

I was all arranged to come to your second garden opening, actually managed to get a ticket! Then Covid struck. We are in our 80s so don't wait too long. I'd love to see your trenches for real! You have inspired me to spend more hours on my plants than anything else. A local garden shop calls gardeners “plant parents”.

Thank you for that last little bit of info at the end about nurseries still placing orders & it’s not too late. Being new to the industry & not a lot of money to get started, I was thinking I’ve missed the ordering window with PWs & also worried about spending the extra money not knowing what the demand is in my area. I love PW plants so much & want to have something to offer the public like what you guys have but on a smaller scale right now. Plus I have the same issues of not being able to find much PW variety to choose from around here (Lumberton NC). Thank you again for all of your content and giving me inspiration to keep moving forward with my nursery goals! ❤ 🌱

I had to laugh when you were talking about not sleeping for 4 years. I remember complaining to my mom or telling her about my daughter complaining after she had her baby and my mom said heck I haven't slept a full night in 40 year or so. She said once you are a mom you will never sleep all night again. Made me laugh so hard. It sucks though because when I had my first 2 kids I was a teen mom and I got no chance to talk like moms do. If I said something I would get 'well you wanted to have a baby' thrown in my face with such disgust by most family members. I didn't realize how much damage that caused till I was older. I try my hardest to never do that to anyone young or not. I don't know how you managed anything with Benjamin. You had been married for around ten years i think and never had babies around you before. You did awesome and still amaze me. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I respect and look up to you so very much. I have even found your church and have listened to a few of Aaron's mom's bible study videos. Wonderful family-such a blessing.

I wouldn’t mind paying a little extra for Proven Winners perennials in the white pots, but think there should be another solution for annuals. We buy them every year for the same spaces in our gardens. I just don’t see the need to pay extra for white pots every single year. Seems to me that a Proven Winners sticker with the plant info on the cheaper pots would be enough to identify the brand.
@karenross34572 жыл бұрын
I really resent the marketing ploy of PW. I understand that energy costs and materials have gone in price. But to pay extra for green paint on a pot is too much. I will pay for quality but not for green paint!

On the subject of the PW pots and branding, I have seen the other end of the equation, where a nursery is putting non Proven Winners plants in recycled white PW cans. I think that is something which is a problem also. I’ll bet Proven Winners company wouldn’t like that, and I, as a consumer, don’t like the idea of buying something thinking it’s PW and it’s not. 💚💚💚

I actually need 200 feet of hose in my front yard and 175 feet in the back. I did buy the Eley hose reel from watching your box opening video . I have to say, it is a game changer! I bought the free standing reel with the extender and just bolted it to my garage floor. No more getting frustrated trying to tackle 200’ of hose several times a day. And the best part is…IT DOESN’T LEAK! Awesome design with the curved copper pipe to attach the garden hose. Next purchase may be their hoses. Kink resistant hoses just aren’t! Hopefully, theirs will be. Any reviews on their hoses would be helpful.

Wow a surprise video - great. I was looking for something to watch and there you two were. Oh it must be an old one because it's not Sunday. Nope brand new yeah!!! It's pretty windy here and slight rain, I've already been out closing the patio umbrella and making sure my new BonFire Peach tree won't tip over. Haven't found a spot for it (don't look Laura - I might take it back) I had no idea that the peaches are "inedible" . I failed at my research, now I'm thinking "whats the point if you can't eat the fruit" Whatever happens I will give it a good home or the nursery will take it back. Have a great weekend everyone.

Aaron, Thank you for going into more depth about the white PW pots. Since finding your channel just before covid ( which was a GOD send to me in so many ways! THANK YOU BOTH!) This is my 3rd spring and I am done with buying ANYTHING else. ONLY Proven Winners , and Espoma ! THEY live, I will pay the extra. Thank you again for all of your education just wish you were on the east coast. Happy Easter
