I'm so happy you loved it! It's my favorite of the Secret Projects, mostly because Hoid is my second favorite Cosmere character and the humor was on point. My memory is so bad that every now and then I try to reread some of Sanderson's works, but I still missed some of the references. 😅

I really ought to read the other Cosmere books. I want to know all the inside jokes and comments ah 😆

Tress of the Emerald Sea is on my tbr list and your enthusiasm makes me want to read it even more. I do wonder, I've read some Sanderson books, but might not be hardcore enough fan to get all references. Do you think missing the references would take away from the enjoyment of the book? (unrelated, but I picked up To Shape A Dragon's Breath thanks to your review and it was delightful and turned out to be one of my fave reads of the year, so thank you for the review and recommendation).

I don't think missing the references takes away from the story. I have a friend who started reading Sanderson with this book and said that he didn't even really notice the references. I had to look some of them up as well because I was curious but none of them are required to read the book. they are more like easter eggs.

I personally really wanted to like this book, but the cosmere references took me out of it. It's frustrating because I can recognize that this is a well written adventure, but I kept feeling like I was "missing the joke" so to speak. I think if I understood the importance of Hoid and the villain at the end, it would have clicked with me more. I'm glad you loved the book though!

honestly, I had to look up a number of things after because I didn't get the references, but I liked being able the do that. even the villain I had read the book involving her type of person years ago but didn't make the connection until I looked it up.
