Solid ranking overall, but I have to agree with Shredlord, Seventh Son is a MASTERPIECE. Top 3 album from the Maiden catalogue for more for sure. As for No Prayer, it's got a lot of filler but a few brilliant tracks. I feel that, between No Prayer and Fear of the Dark, the band has ONE excellent album. Holy Smoke, Be Quick or Be Dead, Tailgunner, No Prayer for the Dying, Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Childhood's End, Bring your Daughter, Mother Russia and Fear of the Dark would make for an excellent album, without the rest which is mostly filler.
@Swullmark Жыл бұрын
I'm only recently getting into Iron Maiden, and so far my favorite has to be the self titled debut (I've listened up to Fear of the Dark), I like that the Paul Dianno albums have a more punk-ish vibe to them, and a heavier vocal presence than Bruce's. Bruce is more of an epic storyteller in my eyes, and his swooping choruses are sheer awesomeness. Not sure if this comparison works, but I'll compare Paul to Rob Halford, and Bruce to Ronnie James Dio. Wish I'd gotten into Maiden when I was younger haha, but they were always too "slow" for the hyper teenager I was lmao.

I go back and forth among Powerslave, Killers, and Piece of Mind as my #1. Those are my top 3, but it depends on my mood. I have Powerslave as my #1, Killers as my #2, and Piece of Mind as my #3, but Maiden couldn't do too much wrong from Killers to Somewhere in Time. All of them rule! Seventh Son of a Seventh, while not a bad album, was not the best album. The title track and Can I Play With Madness dragged the album down for me.

I agree about Seventh Son, it is my favorite Iron Maiden album. Has been for years, and I just don't see that changing. I love prog and it sounds like Rush crossed with Maiden, but heavier and more up tempo. Great album. Powerslave is second! I liked The Book of Souls, but I am not digging their latest, Senjutsu. That is strange, but nothing at all stands out on the album. I need to re-listen, but I just don't dig it. Most epic Maiden song is Empire of the Clouds for me and yes I love the epic ones they had in the 80's, but that song is crazy because it is Iron Maiden doing something different.

Another great video. Here's my rank: 17) Fear Of The Dark - Apart from the great opener, closer and Afraid To Shoot Strangers the rest of this album is nothing but a couple of ok songs (Childhoods End, Judas Be My Guide), fillers and a handful of Maiden-trying-to -play-radio-friendly-hair-metal-turds like the awful Fear Is The key, Wasting Love, From Here To Eternity or Weekend Warrior. The great quality of the first three songs I named deserved better company than this non-Maiden trash. 16) Virtual XI - Dull and uninspired, with Blaze's vocals taking a step back from its predecessor. Hey... at least it sounds like Maiden (although absolutely dull at times). The Clansman and Futureal are really cool tunes. The Educated Fool is ok too. Angel And The Gambler sucks big time. Boring...Next! 15) Brave New world - Great ideas on this one as well as some great tracks (Wicker Man, Blood Brothers, Out Of The Silent Planet, The Thin Line) but some tracks simply look like a collage of parts that don't belong together while some parts suffer once again from useless passage repetition. It was still a good way to bring the boys back together. 14) No Prayer For The Dying - Cool stripped down album with two rockers that I think sound odd here (I really like Holy Smoke though... I think it just doesn't belong here... Hooks in You is crap). and a handful of great tunes (Tailgunner, Bring Your Daughter, Fates Warning, Run Silent Run Deep). Great listening but lacks some epic flavor. 13) The Book Of Souls - Daring album featuring some new features from the guys (namely its duration and their first steps in the rock opera business with Empire Of The Clouds). A bit "patch work like" at times (yet nothing compared with Brave New World) this record presents us some stand out material like its opener, The Red And The Black or the absolutely gorgeous title track. 40 years deep in their careers and managing to deliver something like this is reserved for a handful of bands. 12) The Final Frontier - The best thing I can say about this record is that I don't dislike a single song. Really varied material from energizing stuff like The Alchemist or The Final Frontier to gorgeous )epics like The Talisman, Isle of Avalon or the beautiful closer. Press play and let it play till the end. 11) Senjutsu - Lots of epic songs, typical Maiden mingled with some new ideas. Not a single stinker here and although featuring some of the most recent albums' less good aspects (guitar mimicking the vocals, too many repetitions and some melody recycling) overall this is an impressive body of work regarding the longevity of the band. Hell On Earth, Stratego and The Writing On The Wall? Top notch tunes. 10) Dance Of Death - Although containing some fillers the high points of this record are simply abusive! Montsegur is a beast, The orchestrations of Face In The Sand are out of this world while songs like No More Lies and Paschendale are great Maiden epic stuff. And it still has room for two typical single-like maiden in the first two songs. Great record overall. 09) The Number Of The Beast - Many people think this is Maiden's finest hour but I find it to be the least great album from their golden age period. Nevertheless anthems like the title track, Run To The Hills, 22 Acacia Avenue or the epic closer are pivotal regarding the history of rock music. Yet an amazing song like Invaders deserved a better chorus than the awful one it got and the stinker Gangland should have never been released here. Other than that this is as classic as classic can be. 08) Iron Maiden - Perhaps one of the greatest debut albums ever made, the raw energy of songs such as Prowler, exceptional song writing nuances in Remember Tomorrow or the masterpiece that is Phantom Of The Opera make this record a mandatory feature in your record collection. Amazing. 07) The X Factor - One of the most underrated records in metal. I can understand some people don't get along with Blaze's voice but composition like the songs featured in this album brought Maiden back from the pop metal slime pit that was the majority of Fear Of The Dark with a grim twist to it. Want sheer aggression? Here's Man On The Edge. Strong mid paced songs? Lord Of The Flies, Look For The Truth or The Aftermath. Epic stuff? Try Fortunes of War, Edge of Darkness or one of Maiden's best compositions ever: Sign Of The Cross. Was this album recorded with Bruce's voice it would be a strong contender for the podium. Don't believe me? Just check the 3 X Factor songs recorded live with mr. Dickinson's voice. Hell of an album. 06) A Matter of Life And Death - 30 years deep on a band's existence and coming out with a record as good as this is close to unheard of. Hugely dark once again and filled with prog like structures cemented in epic scaled tunes this is a non stop journey through gems such as These Colors Don't Run, 1000 Suns, Benjamin Breeg till it unfolds in two gargantuan tracks (both in size and quality) in the form of For The Greater Good Of God and The Legacy. When your least good track is a pick between great songs like the opener, The Pilgrim and Out Of The Shadows I think everything is said: Off the charts material! 05) Killers - The first LP I bought from the band back in 1988. If their debut was out of the charts this was an upgrade. Even more aggressive and brilliantly crafted songs like Murders in the Rue Morgue, Genghis Khan or Killers feature a sort of energy the band never managed to top during the rest of the their career. Simply unique. 04) Piece Of Mind - Lets put it simple: amazing stuff. From the epic tones of Where Eagles Dare, Revelations and To Tame A Land to the flawless anthemic singles The Trooper and Flight Of Icarus passing through true gems like Still Life this is Maiden entering the peak of their form. To stress it even more this record is so awesome that even a piss poor song like Quest For Fire gets unnoticed such is the volume of excellence in their peers. 03) Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son - Amazing conceptual album tight as nails while the band experimented a bit outside their safe zone regarding instruments as well (with the preeminent inclusion of keyboards). Seventh Son is absurdly good. a dramatic to the top album that breeds 5(!) legit singles is something unique. From the opening notes of Moonchild to the same notes that are used to close Only The Good Die Young there's nothing but top notch song in this monument. 02) Powerslave - Perhaps this is Maiden's finest hour (I'll explain later why it isn't my number one) and it's easy to understand why: Not a single song ranks below great for a start and the standouts here rank EASILY on my top 10 Maiden songs ever, with Aces High and Rime Of The Ancient Mariner being my number 1 songs in exequo (with the title track coming close behind). Powerslave is flawless and listening to these songs played live in Live After Death catapults them even higher to absurd latitudes. 01) Somewhere In Time: This was the album that brought Maiden to my life. After seeing the Wasted Years video clip on TV when I was 11 little I knew almost 34 years after I would be here writing these lines of praise left alone listening to the album with the same enthusiasm I had back when I was a lad. More than the huge leap regarding production and ambiance with the inclusion of synths, more than the absence of a single lackluster of a note, SIT is a real time machine that brings me back to the thrill I had as a boy while listening to masterpieces such as Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner, Heaven Can Wait or Caught Somewhere In Time. It is the only record in Maiden's collection that does that in such a vivid way and that's why it's my number 1.

Powerslave > Number of the Beast > Seventh Son > Paul Di'Anno albums > Piece of Mind > The rest. This is objective truth.

Might get some shit but I fully agree with Jon on Seventh Son. The worst thing about the album to me is actually the drum sound, absolute dogshit. The Clairvoyant is the best song on the album!

To have any album ranked lower than the Blaze Bayley an Album‘s is incorrect.

If Numbers was a report card, it would have 3 As, 1 B, 1 D, and 3 Fs. How is that a near perfect album?

There is absolutely no similarity in Dave's and Janicks playing whatsoever. Both improvise in a live setting but stylistically couldn't be any more different.

Not really a massive fan of Maiden to be honest, as I find they have a helluvalot of filler. The ones I do like though, I like a LOT. 1 Piece Of Mind 2 Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son 3 Fear Of The Dark 4 Brave New World 5 Somewhere In Time And that's pretty much it.

I love you guys but you're fucking wrong. 7th Son is an epic slab of Maiden at their classic song writing best. The synths in SiT kinda get too upfront at times, for me anyway, in 7th Son they blend and compliment the music more. As for Bring Your Daughter, say what you will but its Maidens biggest selling single over her in the UK. Their only number 1 in their homeland. That said, Bruce's original for one of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies is even better, more atmospheric IMO

I don't like Seventh Son. I've never dug Gers being in the band, his stage presence blows ass. No Prayer blows ass. To me Adrian Smith might be the most important member outside of Steve Harris. Blaze era sucks, X-factor much better than Virtual XI though. Unfortunately they've mostly bored me post Somewhere in time, other than Fear of the Dark. Bruce II I like some of Brave New World and AMOLAD, not much else. My Top 5: 5. Powerslave 4. Number of the Beast 3. Killers 2. Somewhere In Time 1. Piece of Mind

@@AgentBeans I like a couple BNW songs and a couple AMOLAD songs, but for the most part, Prog Maiden bores the shit outta me. Chemical Wedding is the last best Maiden record(Bruce and Adrian, close enough).

I agreed with everything up untill your top 5, but it's impossible to find 2 people with the same Iron Maiden top 5.

Beast IS the maiden album. You can argue subjectively they had a better album but you can't argue it objectively

Chris Jericho did a podcast with Lizzy Borden. They put Powerslave vs TNOTB against each other track for track. Meaning, they literally matched track 1 against track 1, track 2 against track 2, etc. they ALL agreed, that TNOTB is the stronger album. Assuming these are the 2 albums most fans choose as 1/2. And if you listened to them analyze it? It was hard to argue the outcome. 🤘🏼💯

Well it definitely has Maiden's best song(s) on it.

I’d rather listen to Virtual XI rather than Seventh Son
