Thank you for making this clip. I can truly relate to Gino. Sobriety is hard and you’re a lot clearer which is great but it can be a deep dark hole. He uses his times to do the activities that he likes outside of skating which I do too as well. When he say he’s “trying” everyday, he’s speaking for me to the core. Which I am too. So relatable. Thanks for talking, opening up and showing us die hard skateboard fans your current life and talked about some past that all of us didn’t know. Congratulation on becoming a father Gino, you’re going to do great. Create good new memories with your son and partner. Thank you Gino and thrasher. Life is beautiful. Keep on pushing.

As a fellow alcoholic and junkie, God, who led me to AA, is the easiest softest way to maintain sobriety, for me that is. People have to find their own way in my mind, I was a dry drunk for awhile, that was never fun. I started working the steps with a sponsor and can honestly, honestly say, sobriety is cool. Much love and I wish this dude the best 🙏

Poor soul? Are you kidding me? Forever milking his early career with endless softball interviews with vague mentions of tough times and dark moments, while basically delivering nothing of value to his chosen field or society at large. We get it, Gino, your best buddy passed away tragically when you were young and you struggled to make sense of things afterwards. Did you ever consider that getting a job or just applying yourself to skateboarding might help, instead of 'hiding in Florida' and getting wasted, or bumming around on a bike trying to fill your days? The best thing for this guy would be some tough love from the industry in the form of realistic expectations set about outputs in return for contracts. Instead he's kept on life support with cushy shoe and board deals without having to deliver anything in return. It's precisely this unconditional support that's killing him, and he can't seem to grasp it. Probably also why he can't get his shit together and stay sober. Sad!

Wow. I'm only 22 and have not been through nearly as much as this guy right here, and I got emotional at the end seeing Gino in that setting. Still trying to make my way through college, work, and find time to skate for myself. I really resonated with the statement Gino made about idle time being the devils playground. I took a lot from this piece. Beautfiul work Thrasher!

That happiness is going to grow SO HARD if you let it... I never expected, or wanted to be a father to be honest, and it was pretty surreal for the first year. My daughter is almost 11 now, and I've pretty much forgotten the hard work. it can be a struggle, and sobriety is hard for me,, but I have a skater's will. The reward of your child's security and happiness becomes so important, that you make it happen.. and the unconditional love and acceptance that you receive is beyond words. It only gets better. There's nothing more important. Things didn't exactly work out with my daughter's mother, but I am close with her family, so I'm very lucky. Congratulations on your son Gino 🥰 keep rollin' around. 🤘

Absolutely loved this video, and what he says about skateboarding becoming "robotic and unappealing", I've been skating daily for 21 years, and with a new era of web features taking over the last decade it has been important to become more integral on what you like and whats relevant. Skateboarding is raw Art.

Growing up on Long Island this is the name you would hear uttered at every skatepark and spot. People would say "yeah Gino came here once" and "he did this" or "he did that," oftentimes describing a simple trick on a bank or something but the way it was described you can tell it was awesome to witness.

It’s actually a track called “on the run” by kool g rap and dj polo. He skated to that track in 20 shot sequence video back in ‘93 or ‘94 I think. His part was so fuckin’ tight. His style flowed with that track perfectly. Watching his part got me so hyped to skate. When I heard it in this video my ears perked up lol. Watch his part in 20 shot sequence. It’ll get you hyped. Even if it is an almost 30 year old part😍

my first ever skate trip to NYC i saw gino at LES at 7am, it was only 6 people there in total an i basically got a Gino demo. sat there on the bench an watched him skate fried out of my mind haha. so much elegance an style, about 6 mouths later i was at long branch skatepark in New Jersey an once again he pulls up and skates this time just me & him the only 2 in the park. i was so nervous i stayed on the other side of the park an just skated the bowl.

Gino says a lot that resonates. I’m 8 years younger, got better clarity only a couple years back. I never had a life in skating like he did, but skating was my life as a kid, and after skating, I tried to figure it all out the way most do, without skating, and 22 years later, I’m skating again, and in a sense that gives me clarity. I relate to his love to f sports and, “partying”, but gave up the latter so I could enjoy the former more readily. I don’t jump rope, but have various athletic interests. Hopefully he’s counting his blessing now as a father. Maybe if it wasn’t too late for him, it won’t be for me. It’s a weird experience being a man after a childhood of skateboarding.

The story AVE told about Gino in the beginning sums up one of the best things about skateboarding. It can be legitimately beautiful to watch, and it's perfect for shooting photos and filming. I'm sure the way he skips rope also looks dope just because it's Gino. I boxed when I was younger and I can't say enough how damn tiring it can be. Should have started doing it again when I was good enough to do it. I was trying to let my ankle finally heal enough to skate but unfortunately the boredom led to drugs, eventually to about a decade of being seriously strung out. Finally clean on a MAT program and counseling so I can get back on the board when the weather breaks. always keep a decent complete people. Never know...
