The History of Rhude

The idea that you can market the concept of luxury into a brand is such a great lesson to learn so early. I remember one of my university professors telling us to treat anything we make as MORE luxury than a luxury brand and I didn't get it at the time at all until I did a different degree in the business of retailing and really what that professor was trying to tell me is that luxury is not based on quality, but also heavily on perception (and it has been for DECADES - think how Sciaparelli or Madame Gres 100 years-ish ago). I feel like most of the new designers that have come up (Virgil, Demna, Rhuigi) have all had that marketing aspect perfected more than anything else and its such an interesting era in fashion Also, congrats on the partnership with FarFetch, thats such a dream!

selling a luxury brand is more than just the quality, the style, the design etc... it's about convincing people and their feelings...

@@SLICK6014 Also, I genuinely dont think consumers really know fabrics and fibres anymore and that leaves us able to be taken advantage of in inflated pricing, not because we are bad consumers, but because for decades we are sold non-luxury products for luxury prices (see the louis vuitton canvas as one example). Luxury products are very seldom now based on the quality of the actual garment today, but on perception of the brand and the exclusivity of the product, which is fine, its just the way the luxury market has gone, and of course there are exceptions, but for the big name luxury brands I think its undeniable at this stage

@@understitchYT couldn't agree more. As a consumer, we tend to buy feelings, brand name, and exclusivity... that's why I prefer to buy vintage pieces where the company still values the craft and materials.

@@SLICK6014 and better for the environment too, tho if you do choose or need to buy new clothes, I recommend brands like Kiko Kostadinov that are really pushing the idea of what menswear can look like through pattern cutting and construction
