When I first started playing WoW it was a massive breathe of fresh air compared to other MMO's that I'd played, because it presented all of the information that I needed. Flat numbers, percentage modifiers, probabilities (sometimes), the whole kit and caboodle; it was great. Then they progressively made it less and less clear and explanatory (rather than just giving us a version of the old "Advanced Tooltips" option). They have gone backwards by about a decade in terms of the quality of their tooltips and stats. Which is awful, especially for a game about collecting numbers and stats. Next expansion "Lightning Bolt: _Has a chance of doing a thing. To a target. Somewhere. Maybe._ "

We have overtuned/undertuned mythic and mythic+ mechanics, including raw dmg, mobs killing themselves in Freehold, teeming packs being downright ridiculous etc. We have unfinished class designs for shamans and spriests. Pet ai is completely busted in some cases.There are Soul shard generation bugs. We have visual bugs everywhere, along with buggy herb nodes and ore nodes. "Stuck in combat" bug is still here for fuck sake. And last but not least we have an Azerite trait system that is wide as an ocean and deep as a pond. And on top of that, trying to maximize gear and trait combinations is becoming fucking torture because they are getting revamped on a weekly basis. I would be fine with this if Blizzard was an indie company and not a multi-billion dollar one. Edit: i forgot to mention unexplained fps drops, even with high end systems...

Yes the stories were decent i guess. But the quests? No they were not the same. WE used to have insane questlines that took you from a mysterious letter from a random assassin out in the Wetlands, up to finding the real king of Stormwind imprisoned in a random island after 20 quests. You had attunements that, while admittedly not for everyone, still gave a sense of progress. You can say that Outland quests are just as boring, but i personally got bored of them only 10 alts later. Outland, through its entirety had the prevailing theme of the Burning Legion and Illidan's rule and how it shaped the world, heavily tied to the best lore of the franchise. Take any old zone especially after the Cataclysm revamp and you will notice that they actually have invested a lot of time into the zone and what is happening in it (Ashenvale, Stonetalon Mountains for instance). As the game progresses and especially post Cataclysm questing has been pushed aside as a chore to get fast to max lvl and then abandon it... i mean come on, we saved the entire planet and we killed the Titan of Death and now we are literally sent to gather hyena dung. I miss zones like Uldum, or zones like Storm Peaks that were actually designed for questing while flying, those ones had a lot of creativity in them. Suramar and Val'sharah had good narratives aswell. As of BFA zones, pushing aside the fact that the stories are faction specific, so you can experience them separately of each other, the entire story of all three horde/alliance zones is actually one questline-worth of material, bloated to feel like three zones. At least this is how it felt to me, might be just personal burnout.

Im not trying to say Blizzard didn't fuck up the Azerite system. It was an immense amount of their time and fell flat, but I would rather them try to make all the changes early on and quickly, in order to balance, then focus on making the newer content intriguing. My point is, you are negative because of the original source. If the changes are in the right direction be happy about those don't just bash regardless.

@Hakimist-Empenadaist6 жыл бұрын
Jamie Moe the problem is Azerite traits in the first place. They made 40, that's 40 different traits per class! They were supposed to be different and varied and have a noticable effect on how your class plays. Instead they all have an (unknown) "chance!!" to do damage or other very similar nonsense. Now such boring effects were also imbalanced so some did a fuck-ton more damage then others, so obviously people put quite a lot of time farming specific mythic 0's to get them. But now they are balancing them to be also the same?? What's the point of having 40 different traits per class then if they all do the same thing? They could have achived the same thing by adding tier sets and have it funcion a certain (fun) way per class, like we have always had! Azerite is like the fucking garrisons from WoD. Too much time spent on a "outlandish" idea "bold new move strategy" and exactly 0 execution on how to make the whole godammned new system not look like a colossal fuck up.

The need to bring back the "Threat Builder system". We use to have High, Med, and Low threat builders. But not all high threat builders were high DPS skills such as "Sunder Armor". This way you can have a low DPS tank in a raid who can hold threat, and that same tank can have good DPS out of the raid. Also, tanks can then start to pick and choose whether to use high DPS skills or high threat Skills. This is the skill gap between a great tank and an ok tank.

Because it's clear these people are completely disconnected not just from their player base, but reality in general. Even that wouldn't be enough to drive me away by itself, but with the just god awful Azerite gear system currently in place, I have no interest in hopping on the gear grind treadmill for the forseeable future. I honestly don't think the endgame loot system can be saved until the Next Big Thing comes around and replaces Azerite. I think the taunt change has a negative side effect that tanks will understand. In my raid team I currently have a blood dk, and a guardian druid (bless his soul) as our main tanks. We cleared normal and everything was fine but as we progressed into heroic we are running into a problem. As the blood dk gets better gear, he is doing substantially more dps than our bear tank. This is causing him to take aggro off of our bear tank during tank swaps. Our druid is currently using taunt during swaps and then trying to fit a maul in before switching back to mitigation, but some classes aren't able to do both. Guardian druids and prot warriors have to choose whether to spend their primary resource on dps or mitigation, most other tank classes can do both seamlessly. I think this taunt nerf is going to severely affect certain lower dps tanks.
@pmkaboo24466 жыл бұрын
they just removed the information about the extra threat from the tooltip, but it still works the same way.
@0verpwned6 жыл бұрын
Actually they nerfed the threat boost from 500% to 300%, but yeah they didn't gut taunt all together. Still not a very good change imo. My original comment was more about the disparity in dps between tanks. Tanks like death knights are able to output high dps while mitigating because their mitigation is offensive. Bear tanks have to choose whether to do damage or to mitigate, this creates a massive difference in tank damage throughout a fight and tank threat can be directly tied to their damage. That's more my qualm with the current balance stage.
@aaronmehlberg43336 жыл бұрын
Having the advanced tooltips in the spellbook would be the easiest way to go as it provides a great source of reference that's barely ever used, similar to the map in dungeons and raids after the encounters are learned. This would also provide an opportunity for Blizzard to have a spot that lets players know that changes were made to an ability in some way by highlighting each ability that has had a change made to it, similar to how your spellbook and ability is highlighted when first learning it. Changes in game systems regarding the player's character shouldn't fight the player.

1. Too many places to get gear. Such as LFR, WQ's, Pvp giving a ton of gear and Warfronts (may have forgotten a place or 2). and the randomness of the items/stats has caused this issue, this includes warforging and titanforging. This needs to be adjusted and war/titan forging removed. Vendors added in and a weekly cap on currency to acquire such gear. None of the other sources should give you gear that is as good or better than the raid. Like I stated above, too much gear equals huge problems for balancing and sends our numbers sky rocketing. 2. You are right about the tool tips and info being hidden and instead of removing the info, just add in an option for advanced tool tips. Very good video dude.

@preach you hit the nail on the head. I am tired of farming for the good traits and waking up on tuesdays to see they are no longer good. I only wish blizzard would say "X is the dps we are aiming for" so we can tell whats OP and whats UP (underpowered). RIP Seismic wave. RIP Balance druids.

A good example I think is Path of Exile's way of having very specific definitions for words used in their tooltips. As well as having keywords(Like a paladin's Hammer of Justice could have 'stun' as a keyword)

On the process of creating or developing something sometimes you come to a point where you need to let go of something in order for the whole project to move forward. It looks like they didnt really have a good vision for this and are now being forced to spend time to dumb down the system.

Do you think that this taunt change will effect melee dps tanking on bosses such as Coven? When I was doing that boss I already had to taunt periodically to maintain aggro.
@daniellucas55226 жыл бұрын
The reason they're reducing the threat boost from taunt in case tanks were going to use it on cooldown is that they don't want tanks to use it on cooldown. It's like the defensive cooldowns that boost dps: They don't want tanks to be forced to use taunt to keep threat on their target. If they leave it in, it'll cover up issues with threat scaling and feel bad.

Blizz's post on taunts - they say that using taunt as part of your rotation "would be bad for several reasons", then the next sentence they say that they are going to lower the bonus threat during the window, which will more often lead to the need to taunt as part of your rotation. How many times can you see Blizz openly contradict themselves before you realize they are not communicating, they are setting false narratives. I'm no longer willing to pay a company that doesn't respect their players enough to be truthful with them. I guess when they hired an attorney to be their lead designer and mouthpiece, they clearly didn't have honest communication in mind.

Hey preach do you think changes like this would make add-on creators either want to or be forced to make add-ons for the advanced tooltip that should just be implemented? Do you think these patterns are oddly pushing people more into third party programs, add-ons, and websites then before and what the reasoning could be behind blizzard making those moves?

I have never been more confused. I main a boomie- what is with the lack of haste? Additionally there is such a yo yo affect on traits how they work etc. I am using a 350 set over a 375 because the lower gives me better traits and stats it’s crazy! I am really upset at the lack of information and transparency. I walk into raids/dungeons everyday like welp let’s see what happens this time. I really have a hard time knowing what to expect out of my character. Blizzard has such a loyal long standing base you think they would treat them better. I know a few people in guilds who have quit already out of frustration and said they’d come back in a few months to see if it gets any better/clearer.

Boomkin is somewhat like Enhancement Shaman, our DMG is incredibly random. We're so dependent on Starsurge critting, if it crits it does 30k+ damage, if it doesn't , it's only 15k damage. That's huge. Sometimes I do 16k dps, sometimes I only do 10k dps. It's nuts. Then Blizzard went and nerfed Streaking Stars into the ground so now random passive traits are better than all 3 of the Boomkin traits. (Dagger in the Back is now our best trait outside of Uldir traits, aka Lazer Matrix and Archive of the TItans.) They buffed our Innervate trait so now Lively Sprit isn't so bad, but good luck on getting the timing right and expecting whoever you Innervate to spam as much spells as humanly possible while they have Innervate. (Like for maximum DPS with Lively Spirit, you'd have to apply Innervate 12 seconds before Heroism/Bloodlust/Timewarp is cast, then activate all your trinkets and dmg buffs. Which goes against the ideal situation to Innervate... when your healer needs mana. And your healer would most definitely prefer an Innervate during Heroism, not before Heroism, though even then, the Tanks should be easily able to stay alive during a Heroism, so even right-before/during/right-after Heroism, it's not a good time to innervate your healer for maximum effect. So even with the buff Lively Spirit is a hard trait to take advantage of perfectly and is just a badly designed trait to begin with.)

If I were still a mythic raider, my opinion of the azerite system would consist mostly of expletives. However, I mostly play casual/solo content so I can use sub-optimal trait set-ups without hindering my ability to play too much.

"If they bring all the Azerite Traits to be pretty similar to each other then one has to ask the question is what is the point in the system in the first place?" I really felt this. Why isn't this performance just baked into the gear itself if the traits you choose don't even matter? The entire system the expansion revolved around is now 3 pieces of non-farmable gear locked behind weekly loot rolls.

The azerite traits seem fun to me, 1st ring at least. Cpuld they not make it so a fully unlocked azerite peice can allow 50% power on a not unlocked azerite peice? I got a decent peice in warfront and it's first unlock is after level 20. I an 16 i think and it seems weeks away lol.

i like the tool analogy. i like being given a toolbox and being told "this is a hammer, this is a saw" and then i get to figure out how to use those tools myself. wow is the mmo that gives you a blueprint to a house and a toolbox and you have to figure out how to build it. bdo has this problem where the tooltips (translated from korean) tell you nothing and the devs never clarify anything and its up to the players to figure out how everything (even something as simple as a character stat) works. i dont want wow to go that way.
@carterrk6 жыл бұрын
What if rather than triple stacking traits, you could find azerite combos that make the game play more compelling and engaging. That would make the 40+ whatever traits per class more interesting as you find combinations. But this will always lead back to balance. Having combos that could boost burst damage, new defensive mechanics, or healing could help.
@golgaunt-pcxboxone51686 жыл бұрын
What blizzard intends is that most people get stuck with 340 Azerite gear because they didn't win the slot machine pull on the weekly boss, the 2 raid bosses that drop the item for their class, or the 1 in a million chance it drops from the M+ weekly chest. No matter what your skill or how much you play it is still just a slot machine pull to fix 3 of your item slots. Yes I am stuck with 2 at 340 and 1 from rep at 355.

Definitely agree about clarity. The biggest example of that is the PvP in BfA. It's been known for a long time that there's a "secret" ilvl scaling in arena, but no one really knows how it works. There are videos of Rogues two-shotting people while wielding level 70 weapons. So what's the best gearing strategy? Should I intentionally equip lower ilvl gear just to get a scaling bonus? Nobody knows, and it's frustrating as hell.

I am a bit worried about the taunt change as a Guardian Druid, my damage isn't as good as other tanks so sometimes DPS are able to pull mobs off me already. I am really against removing information from the tooltips. Hopefully we don't get to a point where even damage numbers are not shown.
@bourbonwarrior16186 жыл бұрын
I think the Azerite system would be way better if the traits actually changed gameplay. Like this trait gives you more AOE damage or this trait reduces cast times to help with fights with alot of movement. Of course then you would need 50 pieces of gear in your bags. That could be fixed by just putting the traits on the neck. They could even make it so you unlock traits based on quests, dungeon or raid bosses.

What do you think about the fact that respeccing Azerite traits costs increased gold that only drops back down per week? I've respecced multiple pieces into executioner's precision on my arms warrior to try out the 75% buff, then i changed them all to simmering rage and reckless flurry to try out the fury spec, then I changed them back. This cost me a little over 10k gold. Sure I could go use something like Raidbots to sim it out but why is trying out different traits/talents/builds in-game and experimenting them cost so much now?

To be fair, they have to balance the traits that they're planning to keep post 8.1 (?), or whenever they're planning to make Azerite more interesting.

My question to the reduction of the threat gen in the taunt debuff is why? The explanation was that it wasnt really necessary anymore now that vengeance is gone. But its not like the debuff was an extra button you had to hit, it was just baked in. So removing it isnt a quality of life improvement for tanks, and I don't understand the necessity for reducing it.

The Azerite system is so convoluted, and in the end pointless since it's a lottery, that I would prefer going after a dungeon set. I'd be much happier chasing bonuses in a 6- or even 8-piece set where I know what's waiting, and I know what the effects are. Since the effects come with more pieces, I can assume my power increases and not give it a second thought. Even such a boring thing would be better than the opaque garbage we have now.
