13:02 “you have to wanna pick it up an play it”. Most important statement of the video. It has to feel good. Doesn’t matter what brand it is or how it compares in whatever KZbin video, it’s about you and your instrument. It should be a love affair, hopefully a long one ;) You don’t chose your guitar, it chooses you :)

Hi guys. How a guitar sounds is obviously really important but for beginners ease of play, I think, is at least as important (body shape and neck). I think the fender looks and sounds brilliant. £172 is crazy.

What a great comparison. The Jim Dandy really seams to speak to people. I have both the CC60S and the Jim Dandy. I couldn't be happier with the tone of both. The Fender is shockingly tuneful and a great size for road trips where you may want a trad sounding acoustic for jamming with someone. It might be one of the best "new" bargains out there right now and I suspect they won't be showing up often on the used market. The CC60S samples I tried were all quite good, very consistent QC. I had a beautiful sunburst one for a couple of hours but saw the black version for half the price and made the exchange; the black version would make "The Man In Black" proud. The Gretsch has a wonderful unique sound and is the perfect size for car camping where "gear" takes up space. It's a laminate so it will take environmental changes well. It's price means that leaning it against a tree for a moment while in camp isn't something to think about, either. You may have to try a few JDs to find one you like, however. It took five guitars till I found one that worked for me and it's perfect. I'll spare the details but it appeared that a few had slipped through GC with some problems.

I go Yamaha FS800 all day at that price point for learning on. It never goes out of tune, has a comfortable body size, has a very comfortable neck profile and sounds fantastic. I think the FS800 is the best bang for your buck guitar in the guitar world (electric or acoustic), especially if you grab a used one for $100 ;)

Can you guys shoot some videos on the low end of high end guitars? Like, the lowest priced all-solid-wood acoustics from Martin, Taylor, etc. (for example, the Martin 000-15SM or the Taylor 324). Just expensive enough to be really good, but not ridiculous for those who aren’t ready for a high-end instrument. Or, if you’ve already shot a video like that, can you reply with a link to it? I’d also love to see some videos on basic differences in acoustic guitars - bracing styles, slope-shoulder vs square-shoulder dreadnoughts, 000 vs 00, etc. Taking us through the basics of acoustic guitars. And maybe explaining the basics of different brands’ lineups. I think the videos are great and would enjoy seeing your take on this!

I have a "gretsch" jim dandy flat top ,and to anyone thinking of getting one I say get one, you won't be able to put it down once you start playing. I put a trapeze tailpiece on mine to get a more retro look and to take string tension off the saddle. and if you're curious about "agathis" I checked out some "luthier" sites and it seems that it's a member of the "mahogany" wood family !!!.
@kere926 жыл бұрын
I have a jim dandy as well and it's my favorite guitar to just pick up, play, and have fun in any scenario without worrying about my expensive Martin that always in its case. What trapeze tailpiece have you used for it? It sounds like a good mod to do, I'm in the process of changing the nut and saddle.
@HELLHAMMERHANDHIX6 жыл бұрын
Kevin Rebong ...it's unbranded and can be purchased from china on ebay for about $4-5. you will have to cut the trapeze arms and rethread the nuts, but it's only a 5-10 minute job, and it's a great way of stress relief in more ways than one !!!...any friend of jim dandy is a friend of mine !!!.
@tonynoon86936 жыл бұрын
I play my Jim Dandy more than any other guitar I own. It plays great. It sounds really good finger picked. It has a short scale length so it is easy to play. And you don't have to worry about plugging it is. If you want to plug in, a good stick on accoustic transducer works very well through a small accoustic amp like a yamaha thr5A. Eric Bibb used one on Turner Station. For the money you can't beat it.
@ryand1413 жыл бұрын
I don't get what you mean. How does that work?
@tonynoon86933 жыл бұрын
@@ryand141 The acoustic transducer uses the vibrations of the soundboard to produce the signal that goes to the amp. It sticks on with Blutack adhesive so it is removable and won't mar the finish of the guitar. They are pretty cheap too.

Lee/Pete/Joss: Please remember that because acoustic guitars are now carrying on-board electronics companies are coming out with amps, pre-amps, and pedals designed and made especially for acoustic guitars. This will require proper labeling of various products (especially for newbies) to differentiate between electronics for electric guitars, and electronics for acoustic guitars in your published materials online and elsewhere. If someone purchases the wrong equipment, it will only mean a return and more paperwork and distress for all concerned. Also, would you please do a video for the Tonewood Amp? This is a new modeler from Tonewood created for acoustic guitars. Possibly a comparison to such things as the Fishman Loudbox Artist? I'd be very interested in what you think about this new offering from Tonewood. Thank you for entertaining these requests.

You could move up in price range and pick three mid level as like your first upgrade maybe 400 to 500, and again up to 800+ as a your number one acoustic. Also I have been asking if you guys could do an acoustic gigable rig challenge where Pete and Joss each have 1000 for a open mic night rig that may include guitar amp and pedals or would you not use an acoustic amp for that and you would have to decide how to best spend the money for your rig.

Some say 'save some longer for a 'real' guitar'. Have they never been young? Those real guitars are often three times the price of these affordables ones. That means months of saving, maybe a year. When you are fifteen, that's a hell of a lot of time, and you want to play learn, practice, exercise. Certainly at that age you can learn such a lot in these months. I say, gó for it. The skills are more important than the sound the first year. I have been more impressed by good playing on 'bad' guitars than mediocre playing on good guitars.

Most expensive Martin vs most expensive Taylor vs most expensive Gibson acoustic
@markstanbrook55786 жыл бұрын
Z.S they all have such different sounds there is no decision to be made. Just get all three. I have a decent Martin with it’s bluegrass zing, an 8 series Taylor which fizzes with style and is simply a joy to hold, and an antique Hummingbird that has a richness of tone and resonance the others can’t match (as Mick said in a guitar paradiso, it makes you want to play Sheryl Crow). They’re completely different beasts. And anyway the *most* expensive from each of them are special models in unusual woods like Koa tops or custom models where you can spec them however you want.
@z.s43716 жыл бұрын

@klaymeister6 жыл бұрын
Mornay Carstens more accurately than other microphones? Mics are something I dont have a load of experience in.
@MornayCarstens16 жыл бұрын
klay bass Well yeah. Those Neumanns sound especially good on acoustic guitars. How good a microphone sounds is how accurately it captures the sound as your ear would hear it if your ear were placed where the microphone is. Obviously there are other variables that also affect the final recording such as the preamps and any effects in the signal chain but for the most part more expensive microphones are always better for acoustic guitars if you want accuracy.
@Aleph_Null_Audio6 жыл бұрын
The Neumann is an industry standard. It's also the mic they use for all acoustic demos (and always in the same position). The consistent setup makes it easier for prospective buyers to compare guitars across videos.
