Coronavirus Quarantine: Video 24
I will be trying to post simple daily videos for inspiration for my students, and my subscribers to help give us some learning and distraction during this national emergency. Here is a link to the playlist I am adding to: • Online Learning During...
In this video I demonstrate three different ways to make easy wheel thrown spoon rests. I am using Laguna bmix cone 5 no grog. I use ¾ lb of clay for each one. I flatten the centered clay into a disk about ½” thick, then I lift the edge to create a plate edge, using my dominant thumb, and pushing it against the bat to lift a rim. Then I thin the wall into the form I want. I added a spiral to a few of them. The three differences are: 1) I cut the wall in a notch to make a space for the handle 2) I make a folded out area like a pitcher spout for the handle, and 3) I fold up the edge to create a flat area for the handle. Once leatherhard, I tidy the bottom with a rib.
For the great tools I used in the video (including the Kemper wooden knife) check out this link to a live searchable (control F) Googledoc I continually update with lots of my favorite tools on Amazon using my associate links! docs.google.com/document/d/1X...
You can also check out my Amazon Influencer Store Here: www.amazon.com/shop/karanspot...
The contact information for ordering the bat system is:
email is ontariostpottery@gmail.com. The system comes with 1 Master bat and six, six inch inserts. Our price for the bat system is $80 and each additional insert is $3.50. Plus freight which so far everyone I have sent has been around $30. This is all Canadian dollar pricing
I am a public high school ceramics teacher at William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsA...
I started my KZbin channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students!
Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!

Thanks Karan, I always look forward to your videos, as I have learned so much from you. You are a true educator. Would love a video on how to throw a knitting bowl, and how to make a wheel thrown square plate. 😊

How about a video on lids? With a gallery, without a gallery, thrown on the wheel or off the hump. Thrown right side up or upside down. Lids, lids lids please! 😊 Thanks for all the videos! Helps get me through until my studio can open again!

Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. I've been working with clay for about two years at a local community center. I miss my friends and being creative so much. Your videos have given me lots of ideas once this is over.

Thank you for your videos, but the vast majority of us don’t have a wheel. Could you pretty please hand build smaller fun things we can make at home. Maybe little ceramic gift type things?

Love. I have been doing videos for my students as well for years so I appreciate your dedication. I love this and if you don't mind will be copying this lesson. I think this could be a great practice form for beginner throwers. On a different note do you ever create double walled pots? I have just dipped my toes into those forms and have watched lots of videos. I was just wondering your take on it. Thanks and I enjoy watching.
