I'm only on my second run of the game and first run of Golden Deer, but I have found Ignatz very useful. I'm surprised people thought he was so bad...I think people usually equate low str to an automatically bad unit. His super reliable hit rate makes him great for chipping or finishing enemies off from long range. However, I would only run with 1 other low damage dealing unit when deploying Ignatz. One rounding or one-shotting with combat arts feels so valuable in this game. I haven't played maddening yet though so my strats might not hold up in that difficulty. I'm playing hard/classic.

Her dex is pretty high and she can get hit +20 so she doesn't struggle with accuracy but she does more damage and comes with a higher bow rank. But on maddening he's amazing especially since his hit+20 affects gambits

Chapter 5 she doesn’t have enough hit to reliably vengeance death knight, even with rally dex by Ferdi (~50 hit with training/iron lance). If u play around with it and some luck, throw one or two gambits first (Dorothea rally charm), she one shots death knight. Sylvain’s Knightkneeler at that point only drops DK’s hp by half. You can reliably drop Bernie’s hp to 1 with the first archer infront of DK too. From that point, no unit comes close to Bernie’s one shot potential on BE, plus her long range chip potential. The only thing is being mindful of not putting her in danger.

Second, it’s easy to bait him off his avoid tile if you have a unit with 14 AS (kinda hard on Black Eagles without rally speed, but if you level Petra she should get to 14 speed by chapter 4). Knightkneeler is also a great way to kill the death Knight, you just need some chip from gambits and to take advantage of free damage (Sylvain and Leonie’s personal abilities, putting Hilda adjacent on Golden Deer, etc.)

One point I feel like I should bring up is that, while you can build Dedue as a Wrath/Vantage War Master, I find that Balthus is a better candidate for that. Not only is he a free recruit (for all houses, rather than being BL restricted), he has a Boon in every weapon that is required for that build (Swords, Axes and Brawling). His personal also kicks in when he reaches lower health thresholds, making him hit harder and take less physical damage.

One issue a lot of people neglect to mention about dodge tank Ferdinand is that if he so much as levels up in the middle of combat, then he has an incredibly high chance of screwing himself over with an HP growth. So basically to make use of dodge tank Ferdinand, you need to go out of your way to make sure he doesn't kill anything. At which point you might as well send in someone with Impregnable Fortress because you're accomplishing practically the same thing, with the added benefit of being more reliable against enemy gambits.

I think the reason they made Wyvern Rider only require C Flying is because they felt bad for males that don’t have a flying option prior to Wyvern Rider. Paladin and Fortress Knight are both progressions from Intermediate classes, Cavalier and Armored Knight respectively, so that’s how they justify having a B requirement. Regardless, this makes it ridiculously easy to get a unit on a Wyvern, especially one that comes with a lot of axe investment already, such as late recruits like Alois, Gilbert, and SS/Late game Hilda

I think rengor is really failing to note the rather large availability difference between Dimitri and Edelgard. Dimitri exists in roughly 11 more maps than her which is actually massive (Dimitri's availability is about 35% higher). Now some of these maps are very trivial kill boss maps like C11 but Edelgard misses Turtle, Ferd/Lys, Death Knight, and C14(non-CF) which are some of the most difficult maps in the game (I'd argue the only comparable maps on CF are C16 and 17). I think he's also overstating how much better Edelgard really is in the early game and underselling how much better than her Dimitri (And Claude) are during the mid game (7-11). The lord of your route regardless is the most essential unit during the early game if you want efficient clears so even if Edelgard is performing mildly better it's not by much. Peg access really doesn't help her much. I don't think if Dimitri had peg I would ever make him one, archer is the superior class during the mid game and all 3 have access to it. There are enough movement options in the game that a foot locked lord can kill any boss. Edelgard's lack of Wrath is killer during chapter 7-11 which doesn't just include the main maps but also the rout paralogues. Edelgard and Byleth rely on getting rather high stats to remain relevant combatants in routs(Which is totally worth making happen don't get me wrong) while Claude and Dimitri can have mediocre stats and still perform at LTC pace. They're just way more cost effective units. Also for the record about kill boss maps. Battalion wrath is also good on those maps. You gambit the boss and then kill him on the following EP(C16 on non CF is the only time you can't do this). Not that I think being good on a kill boss map in this game is worth noting but Dimitri definitely isn't bad on those maps. For Dimitri's low skill and luck issues, I don't think that's quite as big of a deal compared to what B.Vantage nets him when it comes to reliability. When you create units on non BL's routes to replicate Dimitri you have to settle for normal vantage which requires your HP to be low. This gets you in a nasty situation where missing = death. If Dimitri whiffs he's perfectly fine because he goes into these encounters at full hp. This also means he doesn't take the initial battalion hit that everyone else has to take so his battalion isn't going to randomly break either. Personally I don't think this argument over who is better is really worth debating heavily since the three lords don't exist on the same route so comparing them is like asking if Seth or Sigurd is the better unit. Either way the real crime is what you guys did the Claude. Claude >>>>>> F!Byleth. F!Byleth is smelly >:(.

Rushing A authority on Claude is definite worthwhile and way better than his other options. I agree with wexp rigging, and I don't consider it when talking about units. I mean I hate some units as well after LTCing with them :P. Dimitri for true LTC requires a lot of micromanaging so it's entirely understandable. A 2 turn clear of Face Beneath is not what I have in mind for rating units because the benchmarks are too high but a 3 turn clear is improved a lot by having a reliable EP unit which Dimitri provides. Again I consider Dimitri a tier above other B.Wrath users in the post skip maps because B.Vantage provides so much more reliability than regular vantage. Bern (And any other wrath user) can also be really good on those maps but they have issues you have to work around that Dimitri doesn't.

I actually did try Catherin as a war cleric in part two because I wanted to see how she would do in a class that used her brawling boon. It was actually pretty good because she quadruples a lot of enemies with darting blow and can one round a lot because of deathblow and fistfare. Not having fierce iron fist or warmaster stuff still prolly makes her worse then most male brawlers, but I was still pretty impressed. (I did it on Azure Moon Maddening btw)

Avoid battalion, dismount in forest with a light weapon, dancer buff and alert stance + on top of his personal. I legit had 0 chance to be hit against most if not all enemies. Including Rhea in both maddening playthroughs.

Having played through Hard/Classic, (CF as Female Byleth) Ferdinand, to me, was a little better than Sylvain. However, overtime, Sylvain started to even out and be even better than Ferdinand by the end. By the time I got to the end of the game, Slyvain being a Dark Knight was better than Ferdinand being a Great Knight. The enemies had higher defense than they did resistance. In other words, magic was much more important than defense, unless the enemy had a barrier to protect than from magic.

Seeing some of my most valued units (BL HM) in C tier... Yuri is a dodge tanking GOD and I think he has the current highest stat total in my team. He's the guy I drop in the middle of 5 enemies and he'll survive while killing most of them on enemy turn. Anna fills a similar role, crits and dodges for days. She was at her best mid game but post time skip her STR starts falling behind. Still very reliable as long as I pay a bit more attention where I deploy her. Ignatz is my other assassin and compared to Anna he is way weaker.

Ferdinand's got 45%, Ingrid 35%. By level 11 you can expect Ferdinand to gain one point over her. Not exactly crushing. Noble/Fighter/Brigand/Wyvern Ferdinand has 21 str at level 20. Ingrid has the exact same using the same class path. Or if she goes Pegasus Knight it's still the same because of Wyvern Rider's minimum class stats.

Ferdinand does not actually have very much strength, although he benefits quite heavily in that department from his guaranteed levels.

I know it has an element of luck, and every character can be decent in FE3H, but I have never once in 1000 hours and about 20 playthroughs ever got Shamir or Catherine to level up enough to be able to use in the late game. While clearly my Ashe is broken as I can use him has a rider, archer, or mage and he kicks arse even with just 2 crap spells

This tier list: Flayn is meh. My Flayn: Had 60 Mag by endgame as a Gremory, no stat bonus items used. Also this tier list: Ashe is bad. My Ashe: Literally carried me through all of Blue Lions.

It happens, I think part of the charm of 3H is that in general you have a plan for maddening, but the RNG can force you into a new plan. For example my first few runs I always did dodgetank/mage killer Falcon Knight Ingrid, until I my 3rd run where she somehow got speed screwed (along with the usual strength screwed), and because of that I discovered how good Falcon Knight Leonie is. Which then also led me to discover that Ingrid is the most optimal frontline Dancer, due to her charm, speed, and boons.

No matter how many arguments I hear in Dedue's favor I just never see the Benefit to using him. Yes he has good defense early game but most times you only need to take 1 hit and both Felix and Dimitri can do that well enough (and after watching this I can add Sylvain to that list). Also I find that Balthus makes him irrelevant since Dedue loses his player phase to get extra defense while Balthus not only keeps his player phase but also deals much more damage with 12 extra while using gauntlets. Plus Balthus needs less investment for ranks and levels since he is recruited at level 3 and he is also usable in all 4 routes rather than just 1 (Plus he has higher availability on the BL Route).

vengeance. you dont have to invest much in units with that skill. so you can pour all the exp into byleth and dimitri. or any unit you like.

@@darklight6921 He will still need investment since he will heed to have high enough Hp to make it work well. Plus he will actually have to survive a round of combat without dying to make it work. I can feed anyone experience that I like if I put him on Dimitri as an adjutant then not only do I not have to invest in him past an intermediate seal but Dimitri also gets stronger.

One of the hardest ones to actually "lose" cos of the pseudo casual mode and the sheer fact that you actually viably let everyone kill each other if you really wanted to. But as soon as you try and increase efficiency on that map, it becomes harder. I still think it's one of the easiest maps in the game if you're just considering the ability to mess it up, but the high enemy stats does make a difference when playing efficiently (and LTC too I guess, the LTC clears of that map are insane)

BRUH why aren’t y’all using the DLC characters in the main game?? Constance is seriously so overpowered and makes every map a fucking breeze with her rescue range and her crest proccing for bolting giving you like 6 uses in a single map when classed as warlock or gremory. Those ballistas have no chance against her

I think bernie is better than all the other archers but her sharing a tier with Shamir and Lysithea is very strange to me. Could you perhaps explain? The hero's relic argument I get to a point. However items like thyrsus are objectively better on lysithea and no one uses it better than her. Sure you could trade it around if you use other mages. Which chances are you wont since physical classes are favored most of the time. I personally keep it on lysithea because why would I trade it to someone else when she uses it better other than to maybe chip something. Which I really dont need if I use archers with their like 6 range. So I guess it really depends on your playstyle but I personally think that items like thyrsus should be counted toward Lysithea because it is literally made for someone with her crest. Not by much though because you're right about it being great on some other mages like hubert, annette and dorothea. (This applies to lorenz as well but to a lesser degree because he's fucking bad.)

I think Rengor explains it well in the video he made on his 3H tier list, but in short Good early game due to her personal giving her 13 Str, comes with Curved Shot at base and E+ Lance & boon means she'll have Tempest Lance for Ch2 Vengeance by Chapter 4 giving her the quickest access to reliable orkos in the game (tied with Dedue at least) Is Female, so has access to early flight - Pegasus Knight (unlike other Vengeance users) Her utility matched with her orko potential is what separates her from other damage nukes, with her bow combat arts curved shot and encloser (encloser can be really useful on beasts, especially the golems). Since Vengeance damage is so high she doesn't really miss Lancefaire so Bow Knight allows 4 range Encloser. Some also like going Holy Knight for Physic and Rescue, personally it's way too much investment for my liking but its there. Auto-levels bow & lance ooh, can also be recruited in ch5 for D Axes to help mitigate her bane. Battalion Wrath so also has enemy phase utility if paired with Vantage. I don't personally like it as keeping your battalion health at

Ferdinand is overrated as a combat unit but he is the best dancer in game. The point isn't to be strong on enemy phase, it's to dance in the middle of the battlefield. No one can stop the party.

At full HP, maybe, but I'd argue Ingrid is better, because Swift Strikes Ferdinand is too good a delete button on maddening, if you're using him anyway, especially if his crest procs on either hit for no counter [which is why I always use Seteth as he has the same proc except major crest...no counter on bosses and monsters when it happens is so busted].
