(don't mind me, just writing down notes for my Sociology class) Symbolic Interactionist Perspective (2:22): Individuals assign meaning to their own symbols and actions as well as others to communicate. Everyone has their own perceptions of what the same symbols or events mean (example is seeing wedding ring as costly expense vs sign of love), and these differences can lead to faulty communication. Functionalist Perspective (4:57): Every part of society is interdependent and helps contribute to society's overall order, stability, and productivity. If something causes a breakdown in stability, the parts of society must adapt to help return and recapture stability. Functionalists believe society is held together by 'social 'consensus' where everyone agrees to work together to help achieve what is best for society. Supports the status quo. Conflict Perspective (7:58): Challenges the status quo. Social change and breakdown is encouraged, even if it leads to social revolution. There are two very different classes, the rich people (bourgeoisie) and the poor and weak (proletariat). There's potential for inequality always exists when it comes to race, gender, religion, politics, economics, etc. There are large disparities & conflicted interests between the two groups that will lead to eventual revolting from the oppressed class as the groups of power/privilege will keep exploiting them to remain on top of society. Class struggle leads to the development of societies.

I just discovered this video, I absolutely love it. I'm taking a sociology class and the book that we are studying its' quite dense and fast paste. This video helps me to slow down, listen over and over until I understand. The drawings/writings are absolutely helpful while listening. Thank you so very much!!!
