I have been watching your videos for a few years now and each time I fall more and more in love with paper mache. I think Smaug and Son of Maleficent were some of my favorites. I desperately wish I had the time to do this as well. About how long does each dragon take you? Keep making amazing dragons! I would love to bring something like this to Tail of the Dragon when our beetle group gets together in May.

Hello Michelle. They are pretty labor intensive despite how it looks in the video. You have to love the process. It took me a few months to make these three (although it goes faster if I am not trying to take video). Still, it's worth the effort and time I think. Hope you give it a try sometime. Thanks for the nice note. Dan

DAN ! HELLO ! woohoo ! fantastic your knocking them right out the ball park ! ,I see you have a system or format that you use but it also allows for different techniques and styles with individuality each time .... great formula ! Aso I reading comments where some people were saying that they wished they might be able to afford a dragon one day ! I think they are missing the point ? because here we are on youtube showing the how to do , there are no real secrets ! indeed its time consuming , slightly messy , but in the cost of materials this can be made on the very cheap with out spending $ .especially if your only making one or two for your self . Ok if your producing as many as Dan then cost will increase . The point is you are encouraged to make your own thats why there are no real secrets or hidden techniques ( you dont have to buy a fancy machine or equipment ) The video is self explanatory you can see every thing including Dan getting up off his ass and putting in the effort ! So no need to cry poor or say you have no artistic skills ! its all handed to you like never before ! When I rediscovered Paper Mache years ago I gave it a new name ( I called it "hydro polymer fiber ") Why ? because I was trying to keep it a secret thinking might add value etc to what i was making at the time, as I thought paper mache wouldn't be accepted very well by the general public and they just might go back home and make there own ! leaving me with no sales ! OMG how wrong was I But youtube is just the place to learn anything of interest and then give it a go ! until you try making your own ....... you have missed the point !

@Gourmetpapermache 7 жыл бұрын
Hello Sara. Sometimes I put cloth mache on the neck first. I did here to make it strong. Adding the scales afterward made it even more stronger still. I don't always put the cloth mache first however. Hope that makes sense. Good luck!

🤓 I rewind it every time I see the eyes getting the paint scratched off it truly brings more life to it.

My guess is that it is 5 or 6. It's hard to know because I criss-cross the strips. If done right, it is very strong and light. Plus the "cloth mache" skin adds great strength.

Hola. Buena suerte
