Thanks Jimmy. That’s a very valuable lesson. All the jazz we will ever need right here. And we’ve been over this time and again. I’m finally going to sit down and learn all the turnarounds in all twelve keys. One turnaround a week. I’ll also pay you 25 when I get out of bed tomorrow morning. Not nearly enough so I’ll also buy you a couple of rounds next time we meet at the bar. Hope you’re well my friend.

Loved the Blues explainations. Man I had the walk up wrong but it sounded ok and another way...... either 2 dim flat 3 1st inversion or 2 dim flat 3 dim before the 1st inv. I think it was how you said when I learned it but got it wrong revisiting it... never tried it in this kind of blues nice too to do the last turnaround w/ Db7 as six and walk it down.... fives on bass of those 2 chords with 3rd flipped down are pretty ok too like a 1st inversion major triad

Best $12.00 I've ever spent on a music lesson. $1 / bar of a 12-bar blues? a bargain at 3 times the price!! With 3 alternate turnarounds sprinkled with subs and passing chords to boot. This is the most densely packed lesson I've seen in under 10 minutes. HOWEVER- As a toll-booth school drop-out, I can't always get all these chords to fit into the "12 bar form" because counting to four is a challenge .... ....and I can't tell if some chords are only one beat or two beats or if we're starting the turnaround to II in Bar 8 or 9. Yes, I admit it, I am that guy who needs at least the chord chart in relation to the form structure.

@@johnnycorbin Yeah, I seen it. ...out there by the tomaters....Dont look, Ethel !! ..LOL ( from the song " The Streak" by Ray Stevens. ) Yup....I couldn't believe it either. The poor guy was pretty much sticking to the root of the chords and sometimes threw in a 5th if he wanted to get fancy. At his level, he was probably doing the right thing.......but that capo had to go. I didn't know the guy, or the band, but somebody in the band should have told him to quit embarrassing himself......and the whole band.

Thanks Jimmy ! I just tuned in and watching now. Appreciate it ! One your "Jazz imposters" video you did, last fall I think , you mentioned a book right at the end of the video by somebody named " Peter Leech.....leach......I got the name wrong probably and I couldn't find it. What was the guy's name ......or name of the book? That video didn't take comments so that's why I'm asking here. Thanks.

Peter Leitch is the [great, unsung] guitarist who wrote a book which is part autobiography and part critique of the jazz "business". The book's called "Off the Books". I just checked and it's available on Amazon - as are many of his records, I have most of his recorded works and if you hear him you won't forget him. He has a number of videos of his playing usually with a bassist in a cosy NYC eatery: www.youtube.com/@2036rt He also has an excellent lesson on TrueFire on a production called NYC Jazz Guitar Summit. There are a number of other NY players doing their thing - but I just got it for Peter's illuminating lesson on harmonizing melodies and arranging/improvising on the spot. And no, I am not connected to Mr Leitch [except as a fan] or TrueFire. You got to hear this guy people!

@@5geezers Thanks so much ! I don't use Amazon, but I'll keep checking other sites, including EBAY. I'd like to get that book and I will check out his videos too. I really appreciate it.

How the hell is a bass player spozed to know which turnaround you're using? Which half step above or below? Irritates the crap outta me when the first pass you do a 3, 6 2 sharp 5, 5 turnaround. I got it. Next time you do your half-step step down Bb, A, Ab, G, F#, F. All great turnarounds. But am I a freekin mind reader?
@brunoonlineschool75275 ай бұрын
surprising as it may seem they all work together. The bass is an octave lower than the guitar. It only lines up in a book but NOT on the bandstand. Furthermore, when playing four to the bar the guitar is a rhymes element that gets absorbed in the the drums... try it sometime with a good bass player. I know this because I've been playing this music for over 50 years. It started when I was 19 playing the buddy Rich band. My main job was playing like Freddy Green with an occasional solos in a few charts.

@@brunoonlineschool7527 Nice thought but nahh... I am the 50+ year bass player. Ice cream turnarounds (6 2 5 1) don't fit, for example, a Bb, Db, F#, F7 turnaround. I'm not talking about the structure of a song. I'm talking about backing up your soloing and not knowing which resolve you're getting ready to take. And Ray Brown, using your Bb blues example, hangs on the G(m) final turnaround. Because bass players never like to "resolve" until they absolutely have to. We avoid Bb until the bleeding end. So Ray Brown hangs on the G listening for your turnaround then uses half steps, Db, C... F# F or ice cream to compliment you. You're a cool cat, Bruno, and a fabulous teacher. But decent bass players backing up piano, guitar solos always have to hang on the 3 note to then "follow" your flow to your path to resolve. And a good bass player will always tell you, Bruno, love ya man, I'll follow you anywhere!
@brunoonlineschool75275 ай бұрын
@@nz1m the Db is the tritone F# is the passing chord to F7..... Gain is three instead of one.. I would bet that every chorus that he plays has a different approach; while Joe Pass is comping something independent.. I don't get what you're saying... Ray won't use that G every time.. Joe would play G7 C7 F7 B7. it blends perfectly.. You have to remember that music is always flowing. It only sounds funny when you stop the music. That's called snapshot analysis and it never works
