Wordless story telling is my favorite type of writing. You can see the gears on their heads turning and it becomes like a game, it’s really something I enjoy in movies where they say nothing and let the scene speak for itself.

@masterzombie16111 ай бұрын
@@Greg-lo1tlrewatching the movie I think you’re right, he was just screwing with Jerry, but at the same time he was testing the waters to see what kind of man Jerry is. Hell rewatching the movie Jerry is more of a villain than buddy is in his own way. Granted Jerry didn’t put the knife in buddy’s locker; but he failed to get the knife back out which would’ve ruined buddy’s life. He also paid someone else to beat buddy up and had to rob someone who trusted him just to protect himself and im sure buddy figured that out which is why he gave the money back in the end and gave him that quote “you’re the biggest pussy I’ve ever known.” He saw Jerry as someone who would weasel out of anything while under the guise of being a “Nice guy” so he prompt the fight to see the lengths Jerry would go to forgo that façade.
@dragonman39242 жыл бұрын
Just after Jerry says that Buddy knew the answers all along, Buddy gives Jerry an almost imperceptible nod of "yes". Buddy was testing Jerry to see if he'd stand up for himself the entire movie- hence the "cheating" scene in class. At the end, Jerry finally grew a pair and fought back; which Buddy respected. I think in the end, Buddy ended up being the best thing that ever happened to Jerry. He taught Jerry to show guts and stand up for himself- something that Jerry most likely would have never learned without Buddy. Jerry was a natural coward, and would have been a coward the rest of his life if not for Buddy. I'd bet Jerry had a better life than he would have otherwise after learning the valuable lesson of standing up for himself. Buddy was the best friend Jerry ever had... even though he didn't realize it.

I remember, in the 80s, that we all assumed that principals were experts on every subject. They could just take you in their office and test you on math, science, history, etc. When I became a teacher, I found my assumption was false; for modern administrators at least haha Most, modern principals that I met had zero life experience- they were put through college by their parents and returned to school, as teachers, focused more on being sycophants than teaching and became principal. Anyway, this movie is awesome haha
@andrewvincent7299 Жыл бұрын
I mean the assumption makes sense. Being a Principal is being at the top of the food chain. You would think they were the smartest and most wisest person on the staff for achieving that position. But as you said, all it really takes is being the biggest sycophant you can be

The only time I was called into the Asst. Principal's Office in high school, they asked us for the crossing guard's STOP sign back that we took. The only reason they knew it was me because me and some buddies told our other buddy to get out and take it while we were stopped at a red light waiting for it to change. Then when our friend snaked it, I kept fucking with him and would take back off when he would try to get back in the car. Did that a couple of times which gave the crossing guard enough time to jot down my license plate. Even Mr. Collins (Asst. Principal) smiled when I told him the story. All he said after was, "can we get the sign back now please?" The good ol' days.

Was buddy trying to see if Mitchell would be someone he could trust and eventually use him later in school for special favors here and there, was Buddy looking for Mitchell t be his friend/buddy pun intended?
@NemeanLion-6 жыл бұрын
That’s really a good question. It could be as you said, that he was testing Jerry somehow. I think it could also be that he actually liked Jerry as a person (even though he claims he doesn’t need friends), and that’s the only way he knew how to interact without ruining his tough image. I always thought it was a strange choice to have Buddy reading a book in the library, when he’s confronted by the football player. It shows Buddy was a smart guy, and might be insinuating he may even be a little lonely. Don’t forget, at the end of the movie, he gives Jerry back his money and even cracks a smile. Buddy never would’ve done that if he didn’t respect him.
@patrickdezenzio49885 жыл бұрын
He was turning Jerry into the very thing everyone thought Buddy was at the beginning of the movie. Buddy never deviated from who he was the entire movie but Jerry was the one that broke all the rules - tried to place a knife in his locker, tried to get someone to fight him, he became a thief and a liar. It also taught Jerry there is more to a person than what you see or what you hear.
@bfettrulez67345 жыл бұрын
Psychological warfare. This scene is amazing. It proves that Buddy is not your typical bully. He’s a mastermind. I'm with you, I've seen this film countless times yet I never could pin this scene down fully. At first I thought maybe this is Buddy's small way of expressing the desire for a friend but no, in the very next scene in the gym he makes it very clear he doesn't want or need friends. What the other poster said also can't be true because Buddy already made up his mind that the fight was going to happen no matter what Jerry did. It's frustrating because something was going on there and after 34 years I want to know what lol.
@TheRogueSquid4 жыл бұрын
He did it because he knew this exact scene would play out. He wanted to wreck Jerry mentally. Or maybe he wanted to piss him off so he’d fight harder because he wanted a good fight. Who knows? You kill me, I kill you. What does it matter? Let it begin...
@holytrashify4 жыл бұрын
Im not entirely sure, probably to mess with him, but the principal said he was disappointed in Jerry for exploiting the new student, and the look on Jerry's face was that of realizing perhaps he did when he wanted to write an article on him, which would be exploiting buddy. Thus, this scene led to that realization and was most likely for that purpose.
@KarmineSlash3 жыл бұрын
Most likely Buddy wanted to cheat so to slack off the effort - he could simply lean on the "weakling" Jerry for producing a sheet of good answers for him. In the office, Buddy displays an "effort", but I highly doubt he wanted to put the blame on Jerry - he just wanted to prove them both wrong about taking him at face value.
