Thank you James! I love having my subjects look away from the camera with a neutral face, usually towards the main light. It’s a simple and subtle transition, yet the result is so emotive.

Your first tip (moving around your subject) is something I’m always kicking myself about because I always mean to do this on a shoot but often don’t. It really does make a big difference in the looks you can get from essentially the same pose. Great video my guy!

Yes, I found myself doing that and thought I was being lazy or doing something "real photographers" would pooh pooh about. Exposing for the highlights makes perfect sense when trying to get a little more detail in dark clothing or skin. Thanks for that James!

Great stuff James! Thanks for the behind the scenes. I was wondering, specifically for the Navy football player. Were you shooting an actual player for that or was that a fit model or something? Also, totally agree about moving around. I am constantly moving around and very rarely shoot on a tripod.

Great video James. Curious if you ever have athletes from more than one sport or team in one shoot and how you plan that and make that efficient. For example maybe softball and tennis in same shoot for a school or maybe more related like baseball and softball.

Hey Phil, no it's usually just one sport at a time on these types of shoots. One time I had a few players show up from another sport because they had some special jerseys to photograph but it wasn't a big deal.

@@QuantzPhoto Thanks James. For those of us doing this at the highschool level, its often multiple sports because they are on a short timeline to get the media guide published.

One other quick question. Do you ever shoot without tethering or do you ever wirelessly tether to an iPad? What's the advantage of tethering to a computer other than seeing it huge? I have done it and it just feels like it slows me down.

Hey James, I hope all is well. Looking at your six light set up in this video with the FJ400's, can you kindly explain how do you dial the light power of each light? For e.g. if you are photographing the subject at f/5.6, is your key light at f/5.6, edge lights one stop above f/5.6 or down? fill light two stops down and the far rear lights at two above f/5.6? do you use a light meter? I would imagine, this is second nature to your process, however, how would one achieve this set up and the proper light ratio? I always enjoy your content and I appreciate the hard work you put in with sharing your knowledge. Thank you!
