I remember watching this movie at 16-17 in a high school film studies class. We watched the British version, and I immediately felt a kinship to the Lowery character, with his socially awkward mannerisms and introverted ness/difficulty with talking to people. I have ADHD (which I was diagnosed with at 5 years old), and then Autism (which I was diagnosed with at 2 years old). The world felt like how I felt towards the adult world: too fast paced, too neurotic, too overwhelming, and I was a bit of a daydreamer. I didn’t feel like I fit in with the crowd, and was a bit of a loner. After watching this movie, I was immediately interested in checking out the rest of Terry Gilliam’s filmography.

1: The visual style. Terry Gilliam's visual style is incredible and imaginative, whether directing movies or doing animations. 2: The controversy behind the film's U.S. release. It is the sort of thing that you might expect to be the story of its own movie, and it's an incredible thing to read about, and it's helped develop the film's cult status. 3: The themes of consumerism and escapism through imagination, and its satire of bureaucracy. Rather than try to explain that, which would be difficult, it's best to watch the movie and see for yourself.

I'd remove the "orwelian fantasy" reason and replaced it with "satire that is still relevant".

One of my favorites movies. I'm a brazilian, and this title for me when i ever watched at the first time sounded strange 'cause is the name of my country.

Hey Gustavo, it’s named after your country for no real other reason than the Ary Barroso song “Brazil” (“Aquarela do Brasil”) that plays throughout the picture repeatedly in different forms. It adds a semi-nonsensical but certainly whimsical element to a film that does what it can to make the viewer consider everything they see, hear and feel about it.

Good list, one of my all time favorite films. I would have listed "Uncompromising Ending" as one of my reasons instead of the last one, but that's just me.

I got the movie on normal Blu-ray. What's the difference between the normal edition and the Criterion Edition?
@Okdude12347 жыл бұрын
Connor Waltman Brazil is meant for people who enjoy learning more about the film, there are tons and tons of special features that allow you to learn a lot about how the film came to be.

I'm years late but I'll explain it for anyone else reading in the future. Brazil is a rare case where it's actually best to own both blu rays. There are actually 3 main cuts of the movie. The 132 minute theatrical cut, the 143 minute director's cut and the 94 minute Love Conquers All cut made by the studio behind the director's back. The regular Blu Ray contains the 132 minute theatrical cut while the Criterion blu ray contains the 143 minute director's cut, the 94 minute Love Conquers All cut and multiple documentaries about the making of the movie. In terms of quality, the director's cut is best, theatrical is okay, LCA is ass. If you have the money, the Criterion release is absolutely worth the price, even if you have the regular blu ray.

While not a fan of the film, here are my three reasons: 1) Great style. 2) Brilliant acting from all of the cast. 3) Subtle satire on bureaucracy.
