I was on the Nimitz in 2004 when that event took place, and tbh we had REALLY weird Data coming in all week also compiled with Eye Witness sightings of various things (in the sky AND ocean, things seemed to launch from the ocean and also return) from Sailors on our Carrier to the Pilots flying Missions especially our F-18 pilots who often tried to intercept these UAPs. I later was stationed on the USS Carl Vinson in 2006-2010 and we also had a lot of weird shit take place during most deployments, and I actually witnessed a few things myself. The thing that really freaked me out was when I and my buddy Richards were on Watch late at night... no moon was just pitch black out. Then all of a sudden a MASSIVE light deep in the ocean turned on, followed us for several miles then basically dipped out faster than a F18 would take off but under water. No fucking clue what it was, def not a Submarine or anything like that.... still gives me goose bumps decades later.

This was by far one of my favorite episodes. I have seen objects that I couldn't easily identify about a half a dozen times from the age of 12. That first one was in Florida, and was witnessed by my mother as well, and it was very close. I believe that I witnessed either the same one, or one just like it 20 years later in a different state which was talked about on the local news, and was witnessed by about 50 others along the Hudson river. Regardless if "proven" or not, there are many unexplained instances throughout history (mine in particular) that lend creedence to "something" presenting itself in our skies.
@tomorbataar5922 Жыл бұрын
Thing is we have no idea what natural phenomena exist in our skies even today. It's uncharted territory, iirc even some lightning types were known by pilots well before it was even registered by scientific efforts. Unexplainable lights are most likely human activity, but if not we might as well call them dragons. But by experience one should expect nature. For example, the Hessdalen Lights in my country Norway is a verified and real phenomena that has been and still is studied by scientists. All results point toward some natural explanation for the lights, and theories explaining them exist, but so far we don't know what they are beyond that they exist. Did their verification cause a UFO craze? Absolutely! But it turns out they show no intelligent behavior, rather being in line with unexplained natural phenomena. Pure dragons. Or swamp gas if you want to get medieval.
@Ben_the_Ignorant Жыл бұрын
Nope, not unexplained. UFO's have been explained by Jacques Vallée in the late seventies and early eighties, in widely published books. Other researchers contributed, some even sooner, but he's the main guy in our time. While he's shy about calling them demons, he DEMONSTRATES, and not just states, that they are spiritual (he says extradimensional but it's the same) entities who create beliefs about them. Benevolent, advanced, scientific, not warsome, blah, blah, you know the stereotypes. Except benevolent scientific explorers would not need aggressive and intrusive kidnapping to do their science, and they would need no secrecy at all to begin with. So the conclusion of the complete facts and unmerciful logic is they are demons trying to pass for helpers when their real goal is to take over by gaining admiration and prestige. Now even the supposedly open-minded anomalists deny these facts for most of their crowd, and stick to the nuts-and bolts theory when facts and reason contradict it. So the choice is, go where the facts lead, or be a weather balloonist flat earther denier of truth.

I also think that this could be a ripe territory for psychological studies. There is a human tendency to identify certain things in certain ways, and this tendency also tends to limit the ways people identify the things that they do not understand. And these intern can be, and generally are shaped by popular culture, cultural programming, language, etc.. that’s you see a massive increase in the number of UFO sightings, following Star Wars, and close encounters, because people are impressionable, and now they are looking for that stuff. That doesn’t mean that the stuff doesn’t exist, or that it does exist, simply about the way they perceive. It is going to be shaped by what they’ve seen in the media and elsewhere.

I think it's important not to presume what an alien species would or wouldn't do in a contact scenario. For example, the sightings may be intentionally bizarre as to assess what humanity's response/reasoning and capabilities may be. One could even imagine it may be a generalized assessment method they use to gauge civilizations and their technology on any planet they may encounter. This would be consistent with first testing our ability to see them, followed by ability to chase them through the atmosphere, followed presumably by a chase through space (which we have yet to successfully achieve)
@ASlickNamedPimpback Жыл бұрын
I think the 'curious' nature of these objects kind of resemble research craft. Imagine an Amazon tribe trying to explain the reasoning of some University student's drone. A friend and I had an UFO or UAP experience in Berkeley Ca in the 90s. It was nothing like the little green men in a flying saucer stories. The whole experience is quite bizarre because it took place at 3pm on a sunny summer day with many people from the UC Berkeley campus walking by unfazed. The phenomena defies description because it was basically a hole in our perception. You could not look at it. We also couldnt stop walking to look or turn our heads in the direction. Except I’m different than most folks. I’ve been doing mindfullness meditation since I was 10 because I’m ADHD. Thats maybe the reason I think that I couldn’t help but notice something was compelling me and others to NOT notice it. I was able to talk to my friend in a strained way. “What is that?” He replied “just…keep…walking” robotically. My friend is extremely superstitious and refuses to talk about it since. And I have NEVER read a similar account. Its always stories about space guys in a space car. Doing sexy stuff or cattle mutilation. Basically all those stories sound like us projecting our lifestyle on something we dont understand.

We were sitting outside his apartment, eating a box of pizza because we had just come back from skating. I was probably 18-19 at the time. So, we were munching on the pizza, and I suddenly noticed my friend (his name is Luis) looking up at the sky. I asked him, 'What the f are you doing, Luis?'He took a moment to respond, 'What the fuck? Look at that thing in the sky!' To my surprise, we were both staring at a huge triangle shape in the sky. It was a bit cloudy, so we had to squint our eyes, but once you noticed it and its size, it was mind-boggling. I swear, that thing was enormous, like the size of a football field. It seemed to be camouflaged among the clouds, almost see-through. I remember seeing it disappear. I bring this up every few years with Luis just to reassure myself that it actually happened."

Another good video! Regarding “an element of irrationality“. This is an essential component of the “slow leak“ hypothesis. If aliens want to slowly make their presence known to earthlings over, say, a century or more, how would they do it? How could they gradually raise the level of awareness in human cultures without triggering a sudden transition from skeptical to believing and perhaps frightened? The slow leak hypothesis has them controlling the rate of spread of knowledge of alien existence by including elements of irrationality whenever they allow themselves to be seen. This ensures that reports from the sightings will be taken with a grain of salt by everybody, and it gives governments a way to poo, poo the phenomenon and keep hysteria at bay.

I think he is referring to the way the object seems to toy with the navy. Which seems kinda weird for an alien to do. But as John has mentioned in previous videos himself it’s foolish to assign our psychology towards and alien species in how it may interact or behave. Not saying he’s wrong, it’s weird and totally valid to weigh against aliens in this case. But like I am biased towards thinking it’s aliens(since it’s exciting). I believe he’s biased in thinking it’s not since he finds it terrifying.
@bikesnblades6737 Жыл бұрын
@@petesandwich3246 if that's what he's talking about, I don't really see the point. It makes sense if we assume the scary idea that they're not friendly or at least that they're unsure about us. The first thing you'd do is identify the biggest potential threat and probe it the best you can to assess its capability. So them toying with the navy kinda makes sense, either in order to assess the potential of their aircraft or to check if any hostile action will be provoked through a display of superior and potentially threatening technology. I'm not saying it's aliens, but if you have the tech that easily enables you to tease but never get caught, you can learn something from these encounters.

But when I was younger I was on a Boy Scout camping trip and a friend of mine and I observed a stationary object that was partially obscured by clouds that appeared to be mechanical in nature, and while we had no way of judging its scale it appeared to be larger than any conventional aircraft other than a dirigible, which it somewhat but did not quite resemble. We watched it for some time until it was entirely obscured by clouds. Years later after I got out of the army that friend asked me to confirm that this sighting actually happened and we discovered we agreed on the details of this sighting. What was it? How the hell would I know? I cannot even offer reasonable speculation as to what it might have been and I cannot rule out the possibility that it was an alien spacecraft, however unlikely I find that idea. Equally it could have been some sort of classified lighter-than-air craft doing Lord knows what, which is also pretty unlikely. There is simply not enough data to reach any sort of reasonable conclusion about the sighting so I don't try. It's kind of like when an archeologist is shown an image of a purported anachronistic object. The reaction is generally, 'Huh. That's weird.' They simply don't have enough data to formulate a useful response and they don't try. Perhaps with an informed set of parameters for what to look for they can find a loose thread to start to unravel some of these phenomenon. I'll be watching with interest.

To be fair, you probably had to have big cookies to try and inform your local priest/king/emperor that you saw sky people in metal plates, because they would probably let out a healthy laugh then throw you away in a dungeon or just outright expire you for being possessed or a heretic. . .

Thank you Ĵohn for your grounded and scientific research into the UFO phenomenon. Yes, it certainly would be mighty helpful to have some pin - sharp photography of the wide variety of reported UFO 's, even a craft or two, no such thing exists, at least to the extent of our public knowledge because we have learnt that any privately ĥeld information has à wày òf disappearing ìnto impenetrable gov't files never to see the light of day. The most interesting video for me. I followed the UFO/abduction issues years ago, and found that there were some people trying to do their best with what they had, despite the visionaries and "experts". Jacques Vallée's ideas are for me the most we can learn right now from the phenomena. P: Mutilated cows are a part? I believe that interstellar travel for any alien fellows would mean problems like us: would be for them as inconceivable expensive enterprise with doubtful (if any) return, each step dozen or hundred times harder than the previous; and the distances so discouraging huge, and the challenge to built a reliable and useful ship, and the unsolved problem of energy, water, food and survivability in such distances, as it is for us. So I don't think UFOs are ships from another planet, but "they" seem to want us to believe that. So why? Wtf it is? Is there a part of reality that science has deliberately ignored?

2 thing, John... I would love to see any data, if it still exists, from the Brazilian official UFO night... The second thing is about Oumuamua. Imagine it was an artificial object, but not a solar sail... Imagine it was a big ship bringing probes to study our solar system. By throwing them back it would gain acceleration. How much I have no idea, I'm not a physicist... But it's interesting either way. Anyway, thanks a bunch for the video! 😊 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Very good presentation on the conflicting ideas regarding the ufo phenomenon. I think the time travel theory explains a lot and travelling through time is easier than travelling through space according to our standard model. The problem with Loeb's theory is that it only applies to recent history completely ignoring evidence from the past.
@76rjackson Жыл бұрын
Because of the fact that the earth itself is travelling through space, time travel is also of necessity space travel. Think about how traveling back in time six months without traveling through space , too, would land you in the empty spot in orbit where the earth was when you "energized" your time machine.

To expand on considering shapes, if the flying object uses a very strong laser shot in the direction of travel, it may cut a path temporarily through the atmosphere to lessen drag. Food for thought. It could also be used as a diversion while they cloak themselves.
@jimpatterson55247 ай бұрын
excellent thought. That precludes ionization of the immediate atmosphere by an ultra fast moving object as well. What i keep hearing is people trying to jam these phenomena into known science and physical laws.

I find it silly that you think intelligent life needs to be space faring or even advanced. And that you don't seem to grasp JUST how difficult space travel is.
@zerochill1403 Жыл бұрын
It's extremely unlikely, really. It's only been the last 70 years that we have been remotely interesting from space... with travel time even approaching speed of light travel that limits the possible area of space to lease than 30 light years at max which is a teeny portion of space. If life were that common in the universe we would likely have seen evidence of it by now. It's not impossible but its so unlikely to be close to it.

I don't know if it's possible for it to be from other world, it wasn't looking alien or scary or soulless or robotic, it was like mixture of two groups of vertebrates. I am sorry about bothering with this story, but it had a big impact on me. I thought the Grey aliens are a childish Fairy Tales. It goes further back than WW2. There are accounts of quite a few people from the Victorian and Edwardian periods describing what we would call the UFO Phenomenon. One of the more intriguing ones are prolific academics experiences. "Think Anomalous" is a great channel covering some of the more older and obscure accounts. It gets especially crazy when looking at the accounts from before humans achieved flight. Nuremberg 1561 being especially intriguing. What I think help boost the WW2 era accounts more than the previous is because it was recent enough to actually speak with first hand witnesses as well the advancement of photography. This is when the photographic evidence discussion and critique to the phenomenon started to arise
@JohnMichaelGodier Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but the thing there is the further back you go, the less people had to go on for interpretation. If a bunch of people saw something in 1561 and wrote it down, most of them probably thought it was religious in nature and that's going to color the accounts. People 400 years later look at it and say it must be a modern UFO, without taking that problem into account. Two different biases. With 1561, there's one source, a broadsheet, and half of it is religious admonishments. It looks more like Fatima than a modern UFO sighting. What you don't see, or at least I haven't found, are accounts from nearby cities of seeing the same thing. If you've got an aerial war and the sun behaving weird, you're gonna see that across all of Bavaria, not just Nuremberg. This is not the case for meteorite falls, such as Ensisheim in 1492, where you see multiple accounts of the fireball from France and the Holy Roman Empire and they very descriptively recorded it, found the meteorite, and then chained the meteorite up in a church to keep it from wandering off the way it came on the order of the Holy Roman Emperor. We can now test that rock and tell it actually is a meteorite. If we're going to extend back from 1945, we're going to need some inter-community exchange between the UFO community and the scientific community along with the historians on just how people before our modern age interpreted things. I think it's just much better to take a modern data set with modern instrumentation and watch the sky and start fresh. Then we can look at the historical accounts if we find something interesting and really try to figure out if there was something weird going on in the past that might correlate to the modern day sightings. Take a look and then work backwards if that makes sense.
@haunter124 Жыл бұрын
Right. Ever since people existed they've been seeing these things. The farther back you go the more people have seen them. There's accounts of sightings since humankind first learned to record things for posterity. Literally ALL ancient cultures still tell stories of "the sky gods" and such. Many of those cultures actually report meeting with them.

Distance, speed, and size are interdependent values and extremely difficult for visual observers to estimate for objects in the sky. We can discount almost all reports on these quantities unless there the object is in front of or behind some known object. Radar is another matter.
