I was at Gordon barricks Aberdeen age 15 in 1970, we were junior soldiers getting trained, so we can join our regiments. and Joseph was like year and bit older me, and was so excited to be going to Edinburgh to do his 6 months training, then go on too his unit. It was such a shock to all of us, as we were so numb, and how this happened to the Three of them I remember a tough Sergeant Rioch crying, as he say I train him, and even today I can see him do this in my mind. We did a collection from everyone in the barricks, and it went to the families involved. Today it leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth, that they never find the killers R I P

The one of the problems with the troubles was the people opinions didn’t change. The army was deployed in 69/70 and a few years later the army was hated because of Bloody Sunday, falls curfew and Demetrius, that was before 1975. 15 years later in 1990, the people who served, the procedures, the equipment and the motives behind the operation were different but the opinions hadn’t changed. We were still hated. It’s one of those things about time, half way through Op Banner was 1988 but people’s perception is that by then it was almost over. The army changed, the people didn’t, certainly not their opinions.

Killed by one of their own - a former British soldier from the Parachute Regiment. Of course this would be hard to prove definitively now for the suspect is dead but the evidence does seem to be quite damning. This former British soldier told former PIRA comrades how these 3 Scottish soldiers were killed. The same former British soldier was also a main suspect in the Kingsmill Massacre and he was known to the British security services. So it looks like he will just be another british soldier who evades justice and gets away with murder.

Sad reality is many people have got away with murder in this wee country. Many have got away with things that would not have been tolerated any where else.. but the machine let it rage and destroyed so many lives. This regiment saved the life of my mum and me and will be forever grateful. They also had to protect children going to school in protestant area as it was constantly under attack in interface. Anyone who made tea or spoke to the soldiers; some were tarred and feathered, some had to leave the country and start a new life in other parts of the UK. This was mainly IRA targeting women within their own community's. Something else brushed under the carpet. They will never be forgotten and some folk just can't handle that. The fact that the IRA killed more of their OWN people kinda gets ignored. Done with all the bullshit, hatred and crimes still being committed against the innocents.
@arthurgoodness78653 жыл бұрын
@@chelbythesea8424 that one statement always amazes me - "the IRA killed more of their own people" - I can never understand the relevance of it. If an innocent man, woman or child is murdered, should it matter who killed them or what religion they are? The IRA murdered hundreds of innocent people, just as the loyalists did, the religion of the innocent victim should not matter. Loyalists killed more members of loyalist groups (94) than they did republican paramilitaries (41) - is that relevant.
