I’m something of a planted tank enthusiast myself who has watched this channel for several years. Your recent addition of planted tank content is a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one! At this rate, pretty soon I won’t have to watch any other KZbin channels, just this one.

@@user-op8fg3ny3j Never! A “high tech” tank with lots of injected CO2 and artificial fertilizer is subjectively prettier to some, but can be expensive and high maintenance. I had a vaguely similar setup in a 100 gallon tank vivarium, with a 10" false bottom made.from plastic crate qnd carbon fiber window screen material, upon which I placed the substrate for the plants allowing their roots to grow down and into the water. The outflow of my canister filter made terrestrial river which flowed into a small pond which had a sand covered pipe to allow water to seep from the pond to the false bottom chamber, and back to the outflow. Happiest terrarium I ever built.

when your weather loaches get too big and get transferred to the pond(love that you actually addressed this), kuhli loaches might be worth looking into, funky little guys but they stay much smaller, get a few and you should be seeing them quite frequently, depending how warm your tank is

I've had dojo loaches for a few years now, and they are by far the most entertaining fish out of any I've kept. They swim all over despite being bottom feeders, they're 99% peaceful (one decided to murder one of my snails after 2 years) and super compatible with other species, they can fart... I think it's awesome you're getting into and sharing the joy of fishkeeping. I definitely understand the temptation to make more tanks, but I think a good way of resisting is to keep the tanks themselves interactive or keep fish you really enjoy the personalities/behavior of. Community tanks are great, getting to see how different species interact with each other and coexist. Also as a tip if you want higher dissolved oxygen, which effectively has no downside, just install a small air pump with an airstone in your canister filter. You wont disrupt your flowrate/direction, if you hide the pump somewhere it shouldnt add any noticeable noise, and its super cheap/easy to do

Aw this is absolutely gorgeous!! Your crabbies might enjoy some bloodworms, shrimp, fresh veggies, and fruits since they're scavengers and would usually eat a very varied diet in the wild. Also, a cuttlebone might be a good addition since they need a LOT more calcium than you'd think. If you want a crab ladder, plastic embroidery mesh is my go to option. Best of luck with your little guys!!!

Hi Adam! My old school had a fish tank club! We would take out the old water from the fish tanks to water the plants around the school because of the nutrients from the fish poop! Then we would get plant clippings and also submerge them in the fish tanks to grow them!!!

Gotta say, if the crabs leave the greenhouse, they just might turn right around and go back in, haha! "NOPE!" But really, if there's no urgent reason for 'em to leave the cushy penthouse you've created for them, they'll probably stay put. Kind of loving the fish keeping videos, partly because you're SO happy about it and that's just very nice to share. Also because every tank you have is so much cooler than the ones I helped maintain when I was a kid. We had half a dozen tanks, but basically all the fish were my stepfather's hobby. I resented having to help clean tanks, lemme tell ya (I was a brat, what can I say), but I always liked watching the fish. Of course, it was the 80s, so there were lots of tropical things, tetras and mollies and that kinda stuff. And being the kind of kid I was, I decided to like the ugliest fish my stepfather had, ha! Seeing all these awesome new tanks - stuff that didn't even exist, maybe wasn't even possible decades ago - it's brought back all the best fish tank memories for me.

I tried to find somewhere to write this where you might actually see it. Thank you for making content. I love your videos; how clear and well spoken you are, and your enunciation. It sounds like a funny compliment but it makes your videos addictively engaging to me. You’re eloquent and articulate and explain things in plain English concisely without sounding condescending, even though you sound like a brilliant person probably smarter than most of the viewers. I’m too shy to make my own content but you inspire me to want to try, especially since you have many of my same interests (for example I’ve always wanted to build a vivarium exactly like this and didn’t even know the video was here. I was looking for the rest of a one pan meatloaf TikTok. The only problem is, i used to speak nearly identically to your oration style, but had no friends in primary grade school. Nobody wanted to talk to the walking textbook. So as a5-6 year old I tried to fit in by actively speaking with a lazy slang speech and mumbling my words so I didn’t stand out as much. And over 30+ years my mouth tongue etc got lazily trained to speak how I do now. But you inspire me to be better. Thank you.

Beautiful habitat, Adam, and it's a joy to see you immersed in building a little world to escape to. Please don't be dismissive of the invasive potential of any exotic species, though. Just because they are small and cute doesn't mean that they can't be a pest in the wrong place. Some of the worst invasives in the world were prized as ornamental treasures until they escaped from captivity and drove out natives. Think snakeheads or Kudzu, and beware.

I used to have a CO2 "system" on a fish tank. It was a gallon juice bottle with a couple inches of sugar water and a pinch of yeast, an airstone, and airline tubing poked through the lid. I'd pour some out and add fresh sugar water every week or so, and at the beginning and end of each ferment I'd thump the bottle each time I fed the fish to activate it a little more. The occupants were just feeder guppies, but they thrived. I sold enough plants back to the fish store to supply my aquarium habit for five tanks for years.
