Thank you for your tips mr rob chappers!!! Im still trying to learn to do the shred thing for me, but singing is another beast! For the longest i thought that i need to have my guitar be 70% and vocals 40% but ur right. To me the audience never really mattered because they dont have the same intimacy with your music and instrument but its totally about Sharing urself or more like your performance with others and the thing that resonated the most is with others is vocals u can even make many mistakes on the guitar and they wont notice. Sometimes theyll like them! But if u miss one note is stays with them. Thank you again for your tips!

Yeah it's a tough one that. Three things that I've noticed, as this has suddenly clicked for me in the last couple of years: 1. Play the twiddly bits when you're not singing - even guys like Hendrix mostly did/do that. I didn't even notice that until I started more attentively watching their performances for tips. Strumming while you sing is just fine as the attention should/will be on the voice. 2. It's essential to learn the song on the guitar very well before trying to sing it, at least for me, such that you've almost built like 'muscle memory' of where the hands go. I also practice singing along with recordings of the songs, even my own songs, before trying to bring the singing and the playing together. 3. Start off of course with piss-easy songs that you just have to strum along to and build the complexity as you develop the confidence and the ability to separate the two parts of the brain!

Great subject. I used to play bass and sing, many years ago. Your analogy about the "hard drive", or "processing power" is spot on. I always felt like my "processor" was rapidly switching between one task and the other, never really tackling both at the same time. Kinda like juggling with one hand while typing a letter with the other.

I'm a guitar player first and a singer second and you're bang on about having to designate the "hard drive" to the singing first. I have to have the guitar as second nature and actually concentrate on the lyrics.

A song that really kinda helped me, was to learn to play Smashing Pumpkins' 1979 and sing it at the same time, because the hard part, for me, has always been playing something that isn't just dead simple, while singing. And that guitarline you play in that song while singing has quite alot going on. Kinda helped my multitasking alot.

The thing about Rob Chapman is he technically more proficient than most of us , but his music is boring ; the demonstrations he does on his own channel or Andertons or whoever are about him largely showing his chops . You have to give to him he has made a name and/or a living for himself through his ability, but his music will never be remembered : it is too generic and boring . But good luck to you for what you do .

Probably the practice of it forces you to use less focus on guitar to get just as good a result as if you were focusing 100 percent on it. I could see it helping your playing and focus overall longterm especially if you tend to daydream when you play.

I remember the learning curve when I was learning guitar. Singing even the most basic chord song was so hard then all of a sudden it came so naturally once I got a little better. Some songs are still basically impossible and I feel dumb so not being able to sing and play simultaneously, then I remember the vocalist of the song isn’t the one playing guitar
@JaniceLalla4 жыл бұрын
also the lyrics have to fit along the beat of the song and the speed of the guitar parts, especially if the singer is the guitar player, some bands the singer does not play and he can have much more play in the vocals I especially want to mention the song Tuff Enuff there are some lyrics that just do not fit into the scheme of things by having too many syllables and it is very noticeable when I sing and play the song on the guitar
