It takes 9 swipes of a sun stick on each section to get the full number protection so that kinda sucks cause by 9 swipes it's gonna build and ur gonna go threw it fast but I guess a few swipes for some extra protection isn't that bad because I really don't think everyone is doing 9 swipes on every single spot . U need to get some uv stickers to check and see how good these application methods are just a thought . It may be interesting to see the protection of each kind between sticks spray powder and regular spf .

Yeah it's difficult to get full protection over makeup with any method. (it's sometimes hard to get it without makeup too!) but it's definitely better than nothing and for most people not spending all day in the sun, it will be enough.

Saw a video from Lab Muffin and she tested some sun sticks, and it took her 34 passes to reach spf 42, after that it was impossible to add anymore spf on top. 9 gave spf 19, so maybe it’s fine for reapplication. I’d better stick to regular light-weight spf which I can reapply) as Kelly mentioned at the end, 3 method is the most reliable 😊

Hey Kelly there are korean sun cushions if you’re interested to try. Round lab has one, which has the same formulation as the suncream.

I don’t think the round lab sun cushion has the same formulation as their birch juice sunscreen. From what I remember, the cushion has mineral filters while the cream has chemical filters, unless they’ve reformulated them.

If I’m having to reapply spf every 2 hours, that means I’m going to be outside for a lengthy time and I’m not going to be wearing makeup. I’m wear spf everyday. I walk into my office in the am and I leave in the pm. This may be an unpopular opinion, but re applying spf while inside is a little excessive.

Dear Kelly, I always watch, like and comment your videos as soon as they come out (and you're gracious enough to reply to me). I don't expect you to have noticed, but I haven't been able to follow your last 3 videos but I haven't forsaken you!! My mother is very very sick and I've been crazy busy (and crazy worried) 🥺😞. I would never use a sun stick. At first I thought they would be convenient and easy to carry around but the more I thought about it 🤔 I think their unsanitary. Pretty much a bacteria feeding ground. The thought of wearing makeup ( even though I don't wear much, I don't even use foundation ) it's summer, I'm sweating and then use a sun stick...it's a no for me. I'm not acne prone but I think sun sticks would clogged my pores and cause acne. I would love to someone test if sun sticks are sanitary.

They are developed knowing it's being rubbed directly on the face, less water and correct preservatives. Similar to how moisturizers in jars are formulated differently than tube or pump moisturizers. That being said though, you gotta do what makes you feel comfortable!

@@KellyDriscoll I've never tried a korean sunscreen. I'm still trying to figure out what to try. It's hard because there's so many that look really good. I wish there was better options for babies/toddlers. I use the sunbum ( baby one ) and it has the worst white cast and makes his skin feel so gross. It doesn't absorb all the way either. I keep using it because he has sensitive skin and no way am I gonna experiment on him. Some little one can have a bad reaction to sunscreens.

I currently use a sunscreen stick for reapplication if I'm in a hurry. If I have time, I will go wash my face, apply regular sunscreen, and then redo my makeup (which is just bb cream, a lip tint, and eyebrow gel so it doesn't take me long). I keep my sunstick hygienic by sanitizing it with an alcohol wipe after every use, I also keep the container clean and remove any buildup of residue. I haven't gotten acne from using a sunstick so far. I have ordered a sunscreen spray from La Roche-Posay though, to maybe use on top of the sunstick too!

Thanks for this video, Kelly. I'm a longtime subscriber. Are there any empirical studies that back up any of the claims the brands made about these cushion compact sponges, such as "being anti-microbial" and "not soaking up as much product?" In my experience, they certainly soak up as much, if not more, product and I never believed the claim that these things were antimicrobial. It's probably a fine way to reapply sunscreen if your sunscreen is relatively inexpensive.
@KellyDriscoll
@KellyDriscoll Жыл бұрын
I doubt studies exist. I haven't seen any puffs that claim anti microbial but that would come down to the material they choose to use and those material manufacturers would likely have tests. Anecdotally, I personally find the puffs absorb less than regular make up sponges or brushes but that's just my experience.
@jcjccmz
@jcjccmz Жыл бұрын
@@KellyDriscoll Thanks, Kelly, and agree with you on no tests existing. Just FYI, when Laneige first started selling their cushion compact foundations in the U.S., the product description stated that the cushions were anti-bacterial, lol. I didn't believe it (which is why I washed them every other day and that constant washing is how I noticed they absorb a TON of product). I bought more sponges, the same blue ones, and they were the same as far as absorbing a ton of product. I'm sure you're right in that they probably absorb less than the white disposable makeup sponge cube/slabs.

To be honest there are so many options of water proof sunscreens that last up to 6 hours on the skin that I cannot imagine reapplying anything over makeup. That's disgusting and it definitely ruins the makeup. One of my favourites is Shiseido waterproof lotion in the blue package and the second is Clarins City something - I guarantee that the protection is up to 6 hours without reapplication

The coppertone one is nice for body, neutrogena has water resistant formulas for face too. It's not common in k-beauty and the ones that claim it do not hold on to the skin in water like European or western ones ime. I've heard good things about jbeauty brand suncut but I'm not sure if it holds up to swimming.
@Justin_Osugi

I second the suncut recommendation for a water resistant asian sunscreen. They do have alcohol but it makes them dry so fast and feel light. The ones in the gold spf line are great and much more affordable than even kbeauty sunscreens.

For sunsticks, I have abib and scinic ones but have been using them for my neck. I tried on my face but it kind of rubbed me foundation. I am concerned about the hygiene and them causing breakouts as you rub them on your skin, and also the fact that they contain waxes in them that may clog pores. Have you ever had breakouts from sunsticks, and do you reapply your makeup like blush and powder on top of it?
@tarawilt5281
@tarawilt5281 Жыл бұрын
I know this question is directed at Kelly, but I thought I might lend you a thought or two. Your question is honestly in part asking about the product formulation with regards to bacteria growth. The thing is the people who formulate these products would know best. Most likely, these solid type sunsticks are going to contain little to no water or other ingredients that would encourage bacteria growth. Truly, unless you are an expert in this, it's hard to give you a knowledgeable answer.
