Your lessons nearly always fill a gap in my learning. Especially the part about ‚za‘ made it click.

Enjoy your well deserved holiday! Next 3 weeks we will enjoy our holidays through Czech and Slovak Republics and printed out your very nice books to keep on practicing during the next 6 weeks I won't see my personal Czech teacher. I can highly recommend this book to the other followers of this channel.

What's amazing is that you have a command for English, which makes you an amazing teacher. I'm in awe. So when I return to your country in September and say "Dekuji na kavu" will they know I'm a moron?

Thank you! Well, try saying it and see what the people's reactions will be. I think people might just find that funny.

@CzechbyZuzka actually everyone in Czechia seems to be impressed that I take the time to speak the language. I get "why would you bother? " alot...lol

Do you already have a video on the various forms of "if"?
@CzechbyZuzka Жыл бұрын
I made a video about conditional and conditional clauses, that covers "if": kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4LSqqudapZ4iMU

ooh this was very helpful, thank you! On a side note.... can you explain why the cz in Czech is pronounced ch .... it seems like this is an anomaly!
@CzechbyZuzka Жыл бұрын
You are right, "cz" is not typical in English or Czech nowadays. In Old Czech, the [ch] sound was transcribed as cz. Czech language doesn't use *z* to soften consonants anymore, that's why we have "háček": č, š, ř... *Cz* (or sz, rz...) still remains in Polish. English language adopted this combination in order to represent the č sound.

It's just archaism, English name was standardised a long time ago when Czech alphabet looked more like today Polish alphabet. Some people say that it looks like that actually because name "Czech" came to English from Polish, it's also possible.

I've been using Duolingo...I think it's doing more harm than good. I have a czech grammar book from the 60s that was much more disciplined for me. That was before the internet.
@CzechbyZuzka Жыл бұрын
I have heard a lot of stories about Duolingo and their numerous sentences with spiders. It's a good way to practice vocab, I think, but grammar might be misleading at times. I can imagine the book from the 60s is still good despite having some words that are now outdated. What's the name of the book? Is it English-Czech?
@KAFKUBA Жыл бұрын
@CzechbyZuzka lol...spiders. Funny my father used to call people "pavouk" all the time. My grandfather came from Kasava. The book... it's called A Modern Czech Grammar by Harkins. It's an old hard cover book.
