Ever heard of "THOU SHALT NOT KILL?" (Even when some Blk&Tns raped your wife and burned your house down killing your baby son? That's right." said JESUS CHRIST. There's NO EXCEPTIONS to the 10 Commandments nor The Golden Rule. "Vengeance is MINE sayeth the Lord!" Did the Lord have to "sayeth" "So that means vengeance is NOT YOURS!" ?

This story is fiction. The Black and Tans definitely carried out attacks like this, and a lot worse, on innocent people. But the Tarantino-esque revenge element to this story doesn't ring remotely true. (1) First of all, when an attack like this happened, it would NOT have been left to the grieving widower to seek revenge... and possibly leave his son an orphan in the process. The local IRA unit - particularly in Cork of all places - would definitely have taken care of it on that man's behalf. (2) While its true the Black and Tans were drunkards, they didn't get served in pubs. They drank in their barracks. And they didn't wander alone outside the barracks late at night. When they left the barracks, they came out in numbers, and usually with all guns blazing. (3) Given the tit for tat nature of the war, there's NO WAY even one Black and Tan going missing wouldn't have aroused suspicion - let alone three. His buddies would have suspected immediately he'd been abducted and murdered. (4) This is probably the biggest give away of all. If the Tans suspected this farmer of abducting their comrade, he wouldn't have been arrested and charged. This might come as a shock to you, but the Tans weren't big believers in the rule of law. He'd have been murdered and his body dumped in the bog. Àlso, the story is supposed to have taken place on March 1st 1920. But the Tans didn't arrive in Ireland until March 25th of that month. Look, a yarn is a yarn. There's nothing wrong with that. But the use of dates, names and photos really gives the impression this story is supposed to be true. The Tans committed enough real atrocities without having to invent your own

What an amazing man he was to avenge his family so well. But they ruined his life of course as they did to so many families in Ireland. Michael Collins was also from West Cork of course a hero sold out and killed by DeValera who was, it turns out, a Britihs spy. The Irish people suffered for centuries such land theft, murder, and more before the IRA was formed. The Irish were represented in MSM as thick, violent, dishonest idiots ie barely human and thsi is the method used in every country looted by the British from Ireland to Africa to India and beyond. Churchill is worshipped by many for supposedly getting rid of Hitler but Britain was losing that war before they bribed the Americans to come and win it for them. As a reward, American Zionistts were given Palestine. And I read recently that the Black and Tans operated there too. That is how the Royals swan around in castles, spend millions of the 'Jubilee' parties and the Queen invests millions offshore (Paradise Papers) while UK etc live in severe poverty eg hundreds of children in hospital with malnutrition, working families need food banks . British Empire still looting and killing around the world.

@@basilpunton5702 The oppression of the Irish, Scots, Welsh and even the ordinary English was at the hands of the land owning Norman descended aristocrats and those that aspired to be gentry. Not enough history is taught about this. It isn't common knowledge that many of the British soldiers of the Great War, (wherever they came from), didn't even have the vote. In Northern Ireland which is claimed to be part of the UK, universal suffrage was not achieved until 1969, too late to stop the "Troubles". During the '70's, living in West Cork, I made the aquaintance of an old British Brigadier. He was a career soldier who fought in both world wars. His hatred of Churchill, for being responsible for the Black and Tans (who he described as "murderous thugs") was palpable. He once told me of his marriage and how the local IRA sent him a message that they did not want to spoil his and his wife to be's special day but they would be obliged if he went for the full military. Asked him to keep it 'low key' and wished him all the best. He described them as "Gentlemen". Later, in WWII, his hatred of Churchill (whilst acknowledging his value for that time) was cemented when Churchill sent his tank brigade to Crete on a suicide mission. He described it as a retreat from the time they landed, fighting their way to the other end of the island, he lost 80% of his men.

Terence Bates You wrote: “G58 As flawed as he was without Churchill it is very likely that Hitler would have marched into Britain. In essence he was the lesser of the two evils.” Quite possibly. But the story of WW2 does not start with one man’s, or even a regime’s ambitions. And, contrary to the official narrative, Hitler did not start the war. Most agree that there would have been no WW2 if it wasn’t for WW1. But who started WW1? It sure as hell was not Germany or the Kaiser, as the official historians attempt to personalise events. If you read Hidden History: The Secret Origins of the First World War by Gerry Docherty and James MacGregor, you will discover the extent to which Churchill was involved, though he was at that time a more minor player, he was already a puppet of the Zionist banking elites. So, no Churchill, no Hitler.

@homegrownpa I appreciate you honest words. You and I are about the same age. My Grandfather From Ballina in County Mayo was one of the many great and brave men and woman who fought back against this brutality. Sadly families were often divided as a result of their allegiances with many dependent on the Brits for work or had strong commercial and professional relationships etc. His family were mainly middle class with Doctors, Teachers and Tailors. He chose to be a nationalist republican and therefore part of the underground freedom movement. His specific role was weapons procurement through a rather devious mean. He became manager of a big pub in Glasgow where he used his wits to acquire handguns and rifles from the demoralized post WWI squaddies in the nearby Maryhill Barracks. Stolen and smuggled weapons were of course vital to the Irish resistance movement and more so when those bastard Black & Tans were sent over (who remain one of the blackest stains in British Military history). My Grandfather was eventually seized and incarcerated due the betrayal of an Irish informant paid by the Brits. In prison without due process or legal representation he was regularly threatened to be executed without trial. Thankfully he was released as part of an amnesty that took place in about 1921 when the Brits decided to negotiate their way out of the embarrassing bloody cruel mess they had created in Ireland. A few years later after the controversial Home Rule Treaty was signed and on route to full independence for 2/3 of Ireland while walking in his home town some men of the Irish Republican Brotherhood came up to him in the street and called him by is IRB code name to identify themselves. They told him who the traitor informant was (his extended family still lived in that same town) and explained that he had used the betrayal money to emigrate to the USA and that they had their own informants over there keeping an eye on him. They showed my Grandfather a bullet and told him it was destined for the back of that man's head and that out of respect for his high rank in the IRB they sought his agreement. My Grandfather asked about traitor like if he was married and had children and how was he conducting himself in his life. They said he was a working man who drank a little too much at times but was a decent enough family man. My Grandfather listened, considered the situation and gave instructions not to kill the man. His view was that the past was in the past and much bitterness should stay there too as they moved forward in life and as a country. The IRB men agreed and said they would have him roughed up a bit, tell him that they knew who he was and what he had done and that he was granted mercy by my Grandfather but that if he ever stepped out of line because of his drinking, like beating his wife or not taking care of his children or anything like that they would be back and the outcome would be different. The Irish like most immigrants clustered together in New York, Boston, Baltimore etc and all went to the same Churches etc so people knew each other and their families back home. He would never be difficult to find and he would know that he was a marked man. My Grandfather was wise, calm and peace loving and my father had a similar kind and gentleman neither of them drank or smoked which was fairly unusual for men back then if it was not a temperance or religious reason. My Grandfather rarely spoke of that period of his life and like man of the Old IRB/IRA was not a supporter of the methods of Sinn Fein or the Provincial IRA in targeting civilians and bombing of public areas etc. Anyway those days are past and like my Grandfather says and we have to move on with our lives and play our part in not letting history repeat itself. I lived in England for many years from 1981 onwards and before that as a child in the 60s and 70s traveled through the nightmare that was Belfast and the North every year to and from 'the old country'. I am very proud of my Irish roots and the actions of my family to bring about peace and independence after 800 years. My Grandfather and Father taught me decency, right from wrong and that true courage is not only to be found in the biggest or loudest in a patriotic crowd but in the hearts of decent people. I hope you don't mind me sharing my story. Spending many of my late teens and 20s in England at University etc around London most people had no idea how badly the indigenous Irish had been treated for many hundreds of years. However I did not support the methods of the Provisional IRA of the 70s & 80s either but I did understand the sentiment behind their beliefs. It was a dark time to see innocent people being killed by bombs but the North of Ireland was ignored and sadly it only got any attention when they started through bombs around England. Thank God those days are over. I now I live in Canada where by virtue of my age, skin colour and gender I am increasingly automatically considered to be part of a hated group deemed to be Misogynistic, White Colonialists Genocidal Oppressors by Woke Diversity clowns who have never met me but can tell the contents of my heart from the colour of my skin. They are the epitome of racists are some of the most intolerant, hateful, bigots you could come across. The other irony is that the worst of them are often upper middle-class, University 'educated' white females who take courses that had the name Studies in their title who hate everyone and everything and have likely never read a history book in their life but want to cancel it rather than learn from it. You have to laugh or you would cry some times. Erin Go Bragh and give my best to Ol' Blighty!

There are only twenty two countries in the world that were not invaded or interfered with by the English Crown. The destruction of island and country natives by colonial powers is at the very least inhumane and could be reasonably argued that the reckless behaviour of the Crown intruders was brutal and abhorrent. Winston Churchill and his lieutenants knowingly unleashed a body of men into the Irish conflict that were known retrobates, criminals and murderers. It is Winston Churchill and the English Crown that murdered Michael Barry's family in that small farmhouse in Cork.

I doubt the figure of 22 as there are 44 countries in Europe. Not even the English have managed to get at all half, there a few in the old USSR that seem safe, given some in North Africa and South America that seem safe after all the French and the Spanish kept them out in the colonial period. You are describing the M.O. of the British Empire's brave soldiers. Even to this very day they cannot be held accountable for their actions and that's because those actions are in keeping with their policy of using every conceivable means to supress rebellion. The Brit's try to claim they won WW11 when in fact it was won by Russia. The Russians are not the nicest in the world but they are not nearly as bad as the British. The royal families of Europe caused WW1 and the British royals were well and truly in the thick of their shennagins. WW11 was brought about by an unjust settlement that impoverished the Germans.

Arthur Percival, who command Black and Tans as portrayed in this video, became a General and was in command of the Commonwealth Forces in Singapore during World War 2 that surrendered to the Japanese Imperial Army. My Uncle, who was an Australia Soldier under his command became a prisoner of War and served on the construction of the notorious Bangkok to Burma railway. He was lucky to survive, especially considering that he suffered being Bayoneted and left for dead by a Japanese guard. My Uncle had a very poor opinion of General Percival, he used to say that Percival was brave and vicious against the unarmed men and women of Ireland, yet rushed to surrender to the Japanese for his fear he may have been expected to commit hara-kiri if he fought and lost!

As a proud Englishman ,I feel the pain and distress of the Irish people of this time. The Tans were a rogue army and helped to destroy the relationships of the new Republic and The Empire. I will not apologise because there is no gain in that , but let us move forward in hope and reconciliation. My words, written in tribute to my grandfather was one of the first into Dublin in1916 with the Sherwood Foresters and then shipped to the Somme where he (Thank God) survived. Also very importantly, let us NEVER forget the thousands of Irish men from all 32 counties that gave their lives in the Great War, a fact that seems very readily forgotten.

Sorry, but we in Ireland do not celebrate or commemorate the slaughterhouse of WWI on behalf of British imperialism Our war was against it. And Ireland and Britain never had a normal relationship. Our countries were: one was a colonial predator, and the other a colonised, oppressed country, reduced to impoverishment and degradation by colonialism. But even furthermore there can be no normalisation as long as Britain retains its colony in the north of Ireland, which is Irish territory that no amount of false narration can alter. I would also give you a little advice regarding British colonialism's history of murderous oppression, whether it was in Amritsar India, where hundreds of unarmed civilians were gunned down, or Ballymurphy in Belfast 1971 and six months later in Derry in which dozens of civilians were shot by the British army, the British response was always the same: They were innocent and if anything happened that shouldn't have happened, it was a "rogue" element, a scapegoat who acted without authority. The orgy of killing by the British army in Dublin after the Rising in 1916 was supposedly only due to General Maxwell who supposedly acted alone, again not true. The latest falsehood and scapegoat is "soldier F" in relation to the mass shooting by the British army in Derry 1972. Do you see the pattern in your reference to the Black and Tans as "rogue"? So if you want to find some normality with people in other countries in relation to events involving British forces in other people's countries, you should ask the victims, the ones who endured occupation and brutality, for an account of events. I'm sure you don't mean it, but by restating official British interpretations, you are really throwing insult onto injury.

I think most families have stories of the tans... On my mother’s side my grandfather recalled how they came to the farm, they searched the house and outhouses for valuables, finding nothing worthwhile they took the bicycle and left. There was only one bike, and it was a prised possession of the family. It was used to get to town (about 10km away). On my father’s side my grandmother told us that one night the tans came knocking on their door, they had got a tip off that they were hiding ‘someone of interest’! My great grandfather managed to stall them while the man came down from the attic and went into my grandmother’s bed (a teen at the time). After professing his innocence and convincing the tans that my grandmother was his wife, they left empty handed!

The Tans and and the Auxilliaries were a huge mistake, though I doubt if Churchill ever admitted it. However, the Irish War was an early notice to the British heirarchy that the days of their empire were numbered, and strong-arm methods were never going to hold it together.

The "imperial delusion" is that it is all going to last forever. Imperialists like Churchill were always quick to point out the enormous material progress that had been made by the territories and their peoples "assimilated" by the empire. That the subject communities very rarely view the situation in those terms amazes and perplexes the imperialists who usually assume that within a generation or two, everybody will think of themselves as part of a big "family." One of the interesting aspects of imperial decline is how these systems manage to struggle on long after they have lost the financial, cultural and military means to maintain effective control. The Portugese empire was possibly the best example of this in the 20th Century. It won't work for China either, and I wonder why they even bother.

I am an English man and I deplore what some of the English did to the Irish. I have always believed that Ireland should be for the Irish and that they had every right to fight back against English oppression, I wish they had won. On a brighter note I love and respect traditional Irish music. A couple of years ago I sang with a Galway man, a fine musician and singer, he was surprised I knew so many traditional Irish songs and he was astonished that as an Englishman I was familiar with the late great Margaret Barry. The reason I knew these things was because more than fifty years ago I was a sailor (RN) and when I was in Portsmouth I used to frequent an Irish pub with Irish music on the duke box. My memory these days is fading but the pub in question was either called the Lennox or the Criterion. It was near the railway station in commercial road. I also recall the infamous Golden Fleece.

Michael O'Donnell; Are you aware that Collins and Churchill formed a friendship during the treaty negotiations? Both admired admired the other, though they firmly disagreed on many things. The friendship didn't stop the Big Fellow from planning and executing the assassination of General Wilson, who was one of Churchill's colleagues, at about the time of the Treaty. Collins was a far more complex man than most know. It's perfectly possible he and Churchill would have had a long term friendship had Collins not died in battle. Of course, this wouldn't have stopped Collins from fighting a second war to liberate Ulster, which he was definitely planning to do in the period before his death. Note that Churchill also had a long term friendship with the South African Boer General Louis Botha, who had personally shot at Churchill and captured him during the Boer War. I'm a distant relative of Collins, and related to a lot of other Fenian and IRB figures. Michael Collins and Winston Churchill are both two of my heros. I suggest you learn more about both of them and reconsider your position.
