Stephen, your vids have improved my running so much in the few months I've been following .. I finally ran a sub 20min 5k today albeit only just at 19:59 but I'll take that at nearly 51yrs of age ... everything you say in my opinion is bang on mate ... thank you so much .. & keepupthegoodwork 🤟

Best tip was be kind to yourself. I’ve been to hard on myself after some tough training sessions. Thanks for the reminder.

I am currently preparing for a mountainrun next month and try to execute some of your tips. Today i had a really bad start in a session and my HR was all over the place idk what happend sleep quality was very good and the rest was on point. After 30 minutes i was close to going home again. I told myself "why did you even start if you want to quit now?". Long story short i was 6 hours in the mountains and had such a wonderful training session. Keep those videos coming they help a lot. Thank you

That might be one of your very best videos Stephen. Really clear and concise. My running has gone backwards recently because I spent too long looking at the watch and trying to find a "race pace" - you are right, it's about effort/intensity most of the time 😃

Good good advice. Some exercise physiologists completely dismiss heart rate because it doesn’t always match pace. They just focus on power output or pace. Seems like they miss the point that volume and intensity are still highly effective factors for training. We are not robots, we shouldn’t expect all variables to remain the same all the time.

I’m new to running. I’m trying to be patient but it’s frustrating seeing a lot of people my age running at such a faster pace with a super low heart rate. I need to stop scrolling through Strava. Data is great but it can mess with your head a little. Anyway, keep up the great work. I’m learning a lot from you.

How do you feel about the lactate threshold Garmin gives you vs getting it done in a lab? Is it still valid to base my training off that?

As I am a Skyrunner, most of my training is in the mountains and therefore involves lots of vertical gain - so I am basically almost exclusively training at that aerobic threshold and sometimes a little bit above/below depending on the route and the terrain. I try to combine this with faster flat running and uphill intervals, but the only time I am really in that below VT1 Zone1 ist probably in the downhill. Do you think it is of any advantage to add more of this very easy volume to my regime? I know I can't run as many interval sessions as you do in a week, because, as I mentioned, my "easy" runs are at that special aerobic threshold speed, what makes them a little bit harder to recover from... Yet I notice exceptional gains from it and I have been doing a training style like this for many years, since I started as a Skimountaineering Ahtlete.

Anyone please - why is my aerobic hr zone on garmin only 1bpm? I thought this was a zone in which a lot of my training should be done?! Zone 1 120-149, zone 2 150-71, zone 3 - 172-173, zone 4 172-185, zone 5 > 185 (33yo male)

Stephen, what I am going to say is coming from a loving place! I have been watching your videos for months and let me tell you, there is no way you are going to run 2h07-2h08 doing what you are doing in training! I almost never comment on this but you have talent but these things you are doing will make you run a descent half marathon, good 10k’s road and that’s about it! If you really are shooting for Paris 2024, you need to reassess these things you are doing! Need to train like a real marathoner! With love😉

@@Yourstylefirst I am pretty sure he understands what I meant! From what I see he prefers to build easy base then microcycle marathon specific training in 10 weeks leading up to Berlin! It’s going to be brutal😉
