The Stryd pod is legit. The pace and distance accuracy is like 99% - it quickly becomes a part of your running identity. like double knotting your laces.

I've been using the Stryd footpod for 3-4 years. For an experienced runner like myself I was amazed by what it can do and how accurate it is. However, there are some drawbacks too. For instance, readings can differ from shoe to shoe depending on how much the wind hole is blocked by the front of the shoes (such as on the Vaporflys with the side laces or on the Hoka Machs with the front of the laces blocking the wind from going in the pod so the power is affected as well.) Overall, great tool for any kind of runner. I love it on hills to not overdo hill workouts or during long intervals when it's windy.

love it. there's not a lot of info about how to use running power afaik. another more detailed explanation about how to use running power instead of (or with) HR would be great.

Thanks Scully!! Been thinking about Stryd, nothing but rolling hills where I am😂 Doesn’t make life a bit difficult keeping the heart rate under control!

Power will drop dramatically for down hills like HR. I think you'll find it next to useless if lots of down hills. Great for flat and tracks.
@rmjames83 Жыл бұрын
@@alanshrimpton6787 I don’t think the aim is to keep power up to a certain level constantly (ie the upper limit of a zone)-my interpretation is to keep power within a certain wattage range to stay within that zone you are working in-but I maybe wrong. There will always be significant lag with heart rate, especially on up/down-hills-much more so than real time data on power that is instant feedback…well, this is what was explained to me by my coach. I didn’t mention it in my initial comment but we were only talking about it the other day, & then this video came out😂 Scully must have been listening! Lol!
@alanshrimpton6787 Жыл бұрын
@rmjames83 give it a go. I have quite short steep hills and drops quickly out of zone going down while HR delay works quite well because I'm still in zone by the time I hit the next hill. Different circumstances suit different techniques. A lot of people don't realize how much power drops running down a hill and they think it's the answer until they get one.

@@alanshrimpton6787 I think that’s an awesome point-my situation is quite different-I can’t get away with anything less than about 250m vertical gain in a 10k run around my area. Ridiculously hilly!!!
@alanshrimpton6787 Жыл бұрын
@rmjames83 I did 27km yesterday with 450m gain and my 13km circuit is 260 to 300 depending on Garmin accuracy.

On the topic of gadgets and running form. You should make a video on optimizing stride cadence and vertical oscillation. currently am struggling with oscillation and cadence. hope all is well thanks for the videos.

Hi, would you use the stryd pod every day for every run and also wear a heart rate monitor as well ? I am currently looking a way to improve for next year to make the olympics in the steeplechase and I was wondering if the combination of both Stryd pod and HR monitor could be helpful, I am only using the HR monitor since 2 years and I made good improvement but I am looking for more

1- What lactate meter do you use? Thx. 2-Seems this power pod seems redundant… adding another number that isn’t telling you anything you don’t already know. 3-You already have HR and a Garmin along with the lab blood data.

Thanks for this information; I recently bought Garmin 965 but despite being able to calibrate the distance on the treadmill option, it does not give me real speed values, if I use the Stryd my watch could register those real values on my treadmill training? Thanks

it will after calibration , keep in mind that the calibration is indirect relationship with the shoe you use ... I love stryd for treadmill workouts , I can't recommend enough

Hello Stephen! Question, doesn't the hrm-pro you use have power integrated into it? So I started using the fenix 6x pro solar and added the styrd to it but then upgraded to the hrm-pro and also the garmin enduro 2. Do you recommend adding stryd to the newer upgrade I am using now? Thanks for all your informative videos brotha I'm a huge fan!

Have you ever used the wrist based power on the Garmins, and how much difference does a chest strap or foot pod make?
@nicholkid Жыл бұрын
Yeah I was also wondering how it compares to the garmin power, cause the garmin strap is like half the cost of the stryd

Hey, have you used the power feature on Garmin? How do you feel it compares?
@eric-running-to-chamonix Жыл бұрын
You will find it's about 30% higher in value than Stryd. I haven't seen a comparison yet of the "accuracy". But running by Power is not an exact science. Incline/decline and terrain will have a significant influence.

On my Garmin, i choose settings to use stryd for pace always. Pace is instant, repeatable, and not interfered with by tall buildings or trees. More accurate? Who’d know, you can’t compare just two measures and determine which one is correct

I'm not convinced on power for hilly runs. OK for up like you said but I can't get my power up on down hills which forces me try to run too fast. HR the same so I limit my down hill using pace. Up hill I limit using my HR. I hear a lot about HR caring but for me it's constant. Even when tired my HR is stable and doesn't force me to slow. I wish it did so if I'm tired I just run slower and my HR is lower. Doing shift work that's regular
@liamroche1473 Жыл бұрын
I suspect that, at least on not very steep hills, this is a genuine tendency to take it a bit easy going down hills. I notice that when switching from up to down or vice versa, I tend to stay near the same speed until I consciously adjust. I am not sure what model Stryd uses for allowing for slope. The best research I can find suggests a 5.8% increase in power demand for each 1% of upslope, but down slopes only give a similar reduction for gentle slopes - steeper slopes give increasingly less reduction until for very steep slopes there is an energy cost due to the strong eccentric forces.
@ianreid6495 Жыл бұрын
I found the stryd varies a lot from shoe to shoe...
@Not_So_Common_Sense Жыл бұрын
Exactly. It's very accurate if you use the same shoe but you need to change the calibration factor if you use more than 2-3 shoes and that can be problematic. I stopped using Stryd since Garmin introduced running power on their chest straps-accurate heart rate AND consistent power readings regardless of terrain, weather conditions or equipment.
@liamroche1473 Жыл бұрын
@@Not_So_Common_Sense But Garmin is unlikely to be as accurate, especially since it doesn't do proper wind correction (which can be several percent). Instead it uses a fudge that uses local weather data (which can't take into account small scale variation, buildings, hedges, drafting, and so on). Stryd is not perfect (there is good reason to believe it does not deal very well with drafting) but it uses realtime measurements of air movement made by the device.
