I’m a thrift store junkie and pass many potential projects due to lack of space and free time. These videos are a great way to pass the time... and get a DIY “fix”

Idk why but the thrift stores near me cost a fortune. They sold a scratched up crib for 300. A crib new is around 300. The furnitures were around 500. I went to a furniture store and bought my sons new dresser for 500.

It just gladdens my heart to see another piece of furniture restored rather than dumped into landfill. I absolutely love watching your videos - you are inspiring me to have a go myself. I think I will visit a thrift shop this weekend (starting small obviously!) haha! Thanks for another great vid.

I live in the Twin Cities too, and I see pieces like this. It just makes me appreciate how much work our friend here is doing. If I bought something like this, I'd have to just sand some spots smooth and paint over it...which is okay, but nowhere near as beautiful as the work we see here. I'm sorry you don't see more pieces to try to do this on your own. On the other hand, keep checking the thrift stores...I'm amazed at all the things I've found over the years.

Absolutely beautiful! I've refinished about 25 mid-century pieces of varying complexity and he hits on all the key issues I've discovered, especially NOT to use a powered sander on the edges of any piece. He also mentions how after stripping and sanding, you usually reveal some solid wood parts that are a different species and color and I've also had to use stain to adjust for that. And I also love Danish oil! The difference with me is that I like to apply once and then 2 applications of lacquer or polyurethane for durability. And yes - thrift stores often damage pieces in transport or even within the store :-( When I purchase something, I ask the employee to use my moving blankets and I tip the guy or woman $3-5 as a thank you if they do what I ask. I've become friendly with a few employees :-)

I love your patience and all your projects! I do remember my mom using stripper on her antique finds and scraping and scraping and scraping. She had a big assed electric sander so she had to do a lot of hand sanding as well. I’ve been given an old washstand from her with a drawer and a little door underneath. I’ve been debating what to do for a couple years. She has refinished it but that was like in the 70’s. I believe it’s oak, or partly. The top of the washstand is quite nice actually but it has had the old 1-2 coats of varnish on it from days gone past. I’m afraid of ruining it somehow, so when I finally have the courage to update it, I’ll be following your channel.
