Between maximalists and minimalists, no one needs to buy new stuff because the minimalists get rid of everything and the maximalists save it from landfills.

I was going to say something along those lines, BUT I don't think there's as many minimalists yet and things do still degrade, though.

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

I’m seventy years old and have spent a lifetime naturally choosing this style. I didn’t know there was a name for it! ❤I’ve just been drawn to old and dark tones in textiles etc. throughout my home. Thrifting and antiquing has been my chosen way of decorating.

I've only just discovered Dark Academia. Having lived with it as my primary aesthetic for decades, I know know what it is called! I don't like chintz tea services, and don't associate them with my time in English academia at all. I use Denby stoneware; the rich browns used heavily in patterns from c.1970 are my favorites. For artwork look out for etchings, engravings and bookplates. These can show up cheaply in antique malls or thrift stores, and mass-produced copies can be found. Read MR James The Mezzotint for inspiration; every enthusiast should own one! Speaking of MR James I haven't seen his ghost stories recommended as Dark Academia books - the protagonists are mainly academics and clergymen (like the author) so they are spot on. The BBC adaptation of The Tractate Middoth is very good.

Most of my DA decor is thrifted! I have many antique books (I do read them too!), candle holders, clocks, mirrors, etc. I don’t think vinyl records count as DA, but I also collect those at thrift stores. I also found this beautiful wooden jewelry box at a goodwill for $20 that usually go for over $100.

In Germany, items that are placed outside are the property of the person who put it outside until the local collection Service (Sperrmüll) picks them up (just like garbage in general). You have to ask if you may take it, otherwise it's theft. Some people, however, place a note with their disposed items, telling that they may be taken.

And it also depends on the social climate of the city. I live in a uni city dominated by students, and it's totally normal (even encouraged) to look through Sperrmüll for things you need before buying them

This was super helpful. I'm in the process of redoing my bedroom and the theme is heavily centered around books. I'm not totally sure what direction it's going in but this has been helpful and has given me some great ideas

I am new to your channel, and I also have found a LOT of curbside treaseures! I really began doing this in my neighborhood during the covid shutdown... I needed something crafty to do to keep my mind and hands occupied.... brought home dining chairs, old drawers from broken furniture, small table and a vintage dresser I sanded, and repainted and it now holds my craft supplies...Another tip, if you can, find out which area of your town has large pick up for household items, etc... Our neighborhood picks up EVERY Friday when they pick up trash, so I always look when I walk the dog on Wed- Thursday

You mentioned your preference for buying lamps second hand but isn’t that a fire hazard/electrical risk? I am just wondering because there are certain things I worry about getting second hand. Same with some items for health concerns
@christinec262516 күн бұрын
Yes, it is. It makes me think of the show This is Us because this family is gifted a used crackpot which is already acting wonky before it's given and they're told about the issue but it later caused a fire burns their house down

Hi, any tips for combining mid century modern and dark academia? Or a name for an aesthetic that kinda combines these maybe? 🍄🍄🟫🤎
@justlanchen3 ай бұрын
I'm not entirely sure if there is a name for an aesthetic that combines those two but I think it can definitely be done. Mixing different aesthetics for interior design is the best way to have your own unique style in your home. Do you boo boo 😉
