With your video being 30p it is impossible to assess whether this box outputs proper 60p. So, is it 30p or 60p? If it can do 60p, is it 60.00 or 59.94? If you feed 25i, does it output 50p or 60p? Can it output 960x720 or 1440x1080? EDIT: I see at 13:20, it is 29.97p 16:9 - this is sub-optimal unless there are other resolutions/frame rates, which you haven't shown I believe, you have always skipped the resolution submenu.

These are very important questions that should always be covered in a good technical review like this one. And that stretching of 4:3 is an automatic dealbreaker. Really REALLY stupid that they are not pillarboxing 4:3 to 16:9.

According to ClonerAlliance's website if you leave the resolution on auto it will record in 4:3 if the source is 4:3.

I'd love to see how it handles dropouts and bad degraded video signals from VHS tapes (like if you adjust the tracking to show a bunch of lines, or use ff/rew scan on an EP recording). I've settled on an upscaler that can handle any signal I throw at it, but the quality isn't all that great sometimes. This could be a good alternative.

HDCP and Macrovision are not the same. And seeing how there's no HDMI port input it's very easy to be compliant, although I would be wondering if it's outputing HDCP?

20:27 I had that same issue with the Cable that was included with my Motorola moto G stylus 5G 2023. It just supplied power, not data. I had to use my Chromecast's USB-C Cable just to do data stuff with it

I don't think the device can detect if it's a 4:3 or 16:9 source, as the composite signal format is the same either way. It looks to me like this might be using something like the chip in the 'AV2HDMI' converters(which can be very good for the price) to get the digital signal, although the image seems softer than those usually are. As it's upscaling to 1920x1080, everything is output at 16:9. If you set the DVD player to an anamorphic output(may just be something like "16:9 TV" in the DVD player menu, it should capture without black bars(unless the video is wider than 16:9 of course) Their mention of HDCP isn't applicable to this product, as that's only for digital signals like HDMI. Copy protection over composite video is macrovision, which affects the analog signal. It seems this device isn't effected by it, or macrovision has been disabled on your dvd player(there's quite often hidden menus etc to disable it)

The vid was getting a bit to long, so I didn't include my test of the Macrovision encoded VHS "Back to the Future". The ViewLite AV recorded just fine, where my multiple DVD recorders all detect the copyguard and prevent recording unless I run the composite video signal through a Sima GoDVD, RXII, or similar device. I looked for the output setting for 4:3 or 16:9 on the SV2000 menu when I was transferring King Kong, but I didn't find it. I have several DVD players and recorders, and I know at least two of them have the option to change output based on 4:3 or 16:9. They are just packed away in boxes right now. Is there not a setting to tell it to NOT stretch horizontally!? Afterall, this whole conversion of old 4:3 video formats is the main selling point of this device. Stretching in not acceptable for a device designed to record vintage video. I’m stunned.

So is there an option to capture at 480p without upscaling? I prefer to upscale in post. Also the Clearclick Video to Digital 2.0 will properly take 60 interlaced fields and convert to 60 unique progressive frames, is there an option on this to enable 60p output?

Have you tried to pair the RXII with the ClonerAlliance LiewLite AV to see if it will record copywrite VHS tapes for personal use and saving our VHS tape contents before they degrade?

I just bought a "Portta" VCB. I'm trying to capture old VCR tapes and for some reason it freezes up and only produces a MP4 File (.mp4) and even with DaVinci Resolve I can't get it to load. I tried a "free" converter but it only allows files less than 1gig. This file is 1.6gigs. Pre thanks to any answer I can get. Old Rocker

I'm having a problem with no signal I hook up my RCA cables to the VCR and I can actually hear the audio but I can get a video and I keep getting a no signal sign can somebody please help me? Also the HDMI cord is hooked up to the recorder capture as well as for picture I have it hooked up to my television!

My CloneAliance was defective. It worked just fine the first time I used it, but the next day when I tried to use it again it became a paperweight. Both USB and OUT lights were on indicating the USB and HDMI ports were in use when neither ports were being used. The Display on the device was also dead. The so called 24 hour customer service was horrible. Their suggestions included: Try unplugging it and plugging it back in again. If it were that simple I would not have contacted customer service. Update the firmware even though I clearly pointed out There's no display. I'd have to try to do this blind.

I'm curious if macrovision is any different when using s-video vs composite. Thinking of getting one of these little boxes. I saw another video of someone testing of copyright protected content and it recorded fine so that's two. Just need to find a Hi Fi stereo VCR because the one I currently have is only mono.

I bought the ClearClick for my Sony Hi8 and it didn't work. I had to return it. I doubt this thing will work either.
