Happy #thriftythursday
Sharing wonderful vintage finds including vintage fabrics, tapestry, hand made laces, trims, crochet thread and treasures from the Sewing Lair and Pitt Trading.
Plus beautiful William Morris fabric scraps that will be perfect for my slow stitching projects.
So many slow stitch or slow stitching supplies, as well as supplies for fibre art inspired by Fleur Woods.
I hope you enjoy seeing what I purchased and sharing in my joy.
Thrifty Thursday #thriftythursday is hosted by ‪@TurquoiseDreamingSheree‬
And Valita ‪@ValitasCreativeDesigns‬ hosts #opshopcrafter
I hope you have a wonderful time finding your own slow stitching vintage treasures.
Cheers,
Christine

Thank you Christine, this was a thrifty Thursday worth waiting for! Lovely fabrics at the beginning (and you got quantity too), then those pieces of gorgeous William Morris fabric which I'm sure you'll transform into something special. Must admit I fell in love with that little piece of tatting with the note attached, so sweet. The slow stitched neutral bundle at the end though held some beautiful pieces, can't wait to see how you use and incorporate them into your future work. 🤗❤

My Christine that sure is one huge haul . Lots of delights from fabrics to threads 🧵 You sure are going to have some fun both sorting and creating your beautiful finds . Have fun 🪡 . Love the weather here in QLD just now as days are perfect , was very hard during those humid months I thought I was melting.

I’m glad you’re enjoying the weather - we had ice on some water sitting atop a wine barrel outdoor table this morning here! I don’t do well with humidity so that would be a challenge for sure - glad that is past for you.

You are so right about the ethics of TEMU and their ilk, Christine. Don't get me started on what is essentially child/slave labor, theft of artists' intellectual property, bad quality, etc. It's horrible how many crafters out there don't think about anything except money when they buy fast-made, unscrupulous products. Put your money where your conscience is, people!
@createandcraftwithchristine
@createandcraftwithchristine Ай бұрын
You are a kindred spirit. As much as possible I want to use second hand and reclaimed. Ethics is very improper any to me too.

Christine you are so lucky to have shops like this to go to. I live is a small town in Northern Arizona and we have only a couple of shops that might have some finds. But no fabric type shops. I look for yard sales but I mostly I have to shop at Etsy which is pretty expensive. I have to look on line and see if I can find something on line. Thank yo for sharing . Tomorrow we start our new slow stitching with Roxy's journal of stitching, so exciting.

I do feel grateful to have these second hand and reclaimed item resources. We have garage sales here in Australia but they don’t tend to be as good for accessing vintage linen type items from my experience here. It is so exciting to have a whole new Roxy project ahead of us 💙🧵🪡 cheers, Christine

What a beautiful collection of bits and pieces! The floral fabrics are lovely, but that textured open weave (? I don’t know the correct word!) is gorgeous! I’d love to make a summer cardigan out of that! The notions and ribbons are lovely and so varied! (I loved the hunt through your drawers! I do something very similar most days! 😂😂) Those crocheted laces are beautiful! That’s such a lucky find. I love those William Morris fabrics. The Morris and Co fabrics and patterns are so distinctive! I really hope I get a chance to visit the William Morris museum in Walthamstow soon.

I have a question on appliqué. When you cut out a flower to use as appliqué, do you attach it to something and then attach to your project? I hope that’s clear. I’m not sure what to do. Thank you so much!!!
@createandcraftwithchristine
@createandcraftwithchristine Ай бұрын
Hello - generally with appliqué you cut it out and attach it to your base fabric but sometimes you might want to add an iron on stabilising fabric to stop it fraying and make a thin fabric a bit sturdier. But these can make ot harder to stitch through. Basically there are no rules in slow stitch so have a play and see how different techniques work. Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
