I was 17 when this video made it's debut on MTV. I wasn't a Michael fan but EVERYONE knew this video was going to debut, and we all had to be home to watch it. Probably the first ever "watch parties". The video was so hyped that we all wanted to see it, and it didn't disappoint. It's interesting because most of the time people who watch this video nowadays don't see this entire video, complete the the intro and Vincent Price. Still to this day it's probably the greatest "music video" of all time, but it's so much more than a music video. it really is a short film.

The thing is you didn't need to be a fan to appreciate the genius that was Michael Jackson. But most people were anyways especially at that time

Having Vincent price do the speaking part at the end was just perfect. He heard the beat of the music, read through the script, and did his part in one take.

I haven't seen this video in forever. I remember going to the Roller Rink and everyone was there just to see this video premiered. They announced it's release about two months before anyone could see it. Movie theaters , drive INS and wherever had to pay to show this video. It was released simultaneously throughout the country. The Roller Rink we went to actually charged 3 times their normal entry fee to get in that night.

Such a genius and legendary individual. I remember seeing this video when I was five years old and became fascinated ever since. What a great music video, but also a way to introduce to people into the world of short films to music videos like he did. I miss this man.

I enjoyed checking this out with you two ladies, and I can tell both of you are a lot of fun! I'm in Michael and his brothers age group, and I'd give anything to travel back and freeze time as we were during this period. But I am equally thankful for videos! And movies! Thanks for sharing!

Omg! I remember staying up with my brother until 11:30pm to watch this when it first dropped back in 1982. It was considered too “scary” to premiere in prime time. 😂. Now days it would premiere at 2pm. But it was, and still is, an epic masterpiece.

The zombie stuff goes back to, probably, I am Legend the 1950's novel. It had vampires in it, but they were a lot more like zombies than vampires. Vincent Price made the first film adaptation of the novel, I heard it was written by the writer of the novel and it's very close to the novel out of the three films that had been made of the book. The first zombie movie I believe was Night of the Living Dead and I believe the director of that film got inspiration from I am Legend the novel. So all zombie apocalypse films probably get their origins from I am Legend the novel.

If you get a chance look at Michael Jackson's "Ghosts". It is 39 minutes and the story was written with the help of Stephen King. BUT, the dancing is incredible.

Hi Cash and Bev. Hope you're having fun. Halloween is not as big a thing in the UK as it is in the Peanuts cartoons (this is where we learn all about American culture), but instead October 31st is Lenny Henry Day - Lenny is the most famous comedian to come of out Dudley, in the West Midlands. In fact, he might be the ONLY comedian to come out of Dudley, but anyway, his TV show in 1984 offered this Tribute to Michael Jackson with a song called Thinner: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZvJia2uZrh7qbs

The greatest werewolf transformation of all time, (CGI didn't exist), ONLY practical effects, was John Landis' "An American Werewolf In London". No contest. Michael saw that film and asked Landis to direct the Thriller video. Landis was not interested in directing a music video. He then asked Michael if he was willing to make it a short film. Michael said yes. Michael did indeed wear all of the makeup and prosthetics b/c he wanted to "transform" into a werewolf himself. He sat in a chair 4-5 hours a day to make the various makeup and inflation system changes to help him transform. Openly gay choreographer Michael Peters, who choreographed the "Beat It" video (He was the "gang member" in the white jacket), also did the choreography for the Thriller video. RIP to BOTH. It was Landis' idea to put all 3 of the verses in the 1st part of the video & use the chorus for the dance sequence. That's why the song sounds "out of order" during the film. But it makes sense for the short film.

Video release was a big thing here in the UK! Got a big promotion on newly launched Channel 4 - we only ever had three channels before 1982! Sad really. Also you should rate wines by red , white , rose then chablis, merlot , malbec etc. Then by empty, half full, and full etc. Much more fun! Lol.

Hello Young Lady, my name is Rudy. I just caught this video tonight. Michael Jackson was nothing less than amazing! My older sister went to school with him when they were very young. I first saw your program about a week ago. I made a mental note to visit your channel. So here I am. I like your friend too.I watched the episode where you interviewed her. What a amazing background she has. Which brings me to my question. What is your background I’m curious. You are so articulate and you carry yourself quite regally. It’s evident that you are well mannered and educated. I searched your programs name here on KZbin and found it. I was curious to see what music is your mainstream. Well that’s also clear that you have eclectic taste. Which I enjoy. But I have to admit, I’m pretty much a 70’s rocker. But I do enjoy listening to different things from time to time. The one music also like a great deal is Zydeco! When I was stationed in Louisiana I discovered it and never stopped listening. You look absolutely wonderful. I’m going to turn 60 in a few weeks. I can’t believe it. Where did the last 30 years go?!! Anyway, I just had to introduce myself and I hope to hear from you one day. So keep going girl!! I really do enjoy your channel!! Please stay safe and healthy. Rudy
