Another video in the series of me making my vacation wardrobe - though if this one is gonna land in my carry-on isn't yet decided. I made an attempt and recreating a #reformation twin set in a green #linen fabric. This #diy version is an easy make, but let's decide together if it is worth it.
Time stamps:
00:00 Intro
01:35 Discussing the design
02:10 Figuring out the pattern
03:00 The first mockup
04:15 Cutting the pieces
04:40 Sewing the top
11:00 Sewing the skirt
14:50 Final reveal & thoughts
Would love to connect with you~

I really appreciate your honesty - so many things (garments especially) are only ever shown from it's best angle and we never get a chance to gauge how it actually wears or functions in real life.

You are so insightful! I'm a seamstress I thought! You put me to shame. The pattern drafting is my goal. So difficult! You make it look easy. Amazing. I think in a linen 2% spandex blend would have solved the frumpiness and helped keep intended shape. Lovely just the same,!

Oh wow thank you so much ☺️ That is one big compliment! You are totally right, some elasticity would have benefitted the set! Just recently got some Sorona stretch linen so will try my hand on that soon!

The set turned out lovely. You’re right linen has a mind of it’s own. I don’t think there’s anything you could have done to change the outcome. I love linen but I rarely ever buy or wear it for the reasons you mentioned. I recently bought some linen but I’m only making tops for next summer. I think you did a great job and as a seamstress you know we just don’t like everything we make! Hope you’re enjoying your vacation.👗🧵🪡🥰

I have several pairs of linen pants, and shorts and dresses … I love linen. ❤ The ones that wrinkle the most are 100% linen. The blends don’t do it near as badly.

I am obsessed with linen, and was especially last summer when I made this :) This year I would like to explore more linen blends as you say to see what's out there and if there's something that is less prone to creasing - would love some suggestions!

@@ThrillsandStitches look for a viscose added in the blend. I prefer a rayon mix over a polyester. Poly makes me sweat. 😂 Also the softer the linen, the less I have it wrinkle. I noticed this in my linen button ups. The softer ones don’t wrinkle as bad. But unfortunately all linen will wrinkle.

@@ThrillsandStitches and I have a gorgeous pinkish purple linen I am sewing a maxi out of. I expect wrinkles. 😂

It's okay not always to be so happy with the results, in my opinion you look gorgeous in that set. But as you say, that will help you do better next time and you will love it. Linen is quite a difficult fabric from what I see.

I loved it and thought it looked lovely on you but for that particular style of outfit I thought you needed a fabric with a bit more body in it. Linen is fantastic and looks great in garments that are loose and a bit more casual but I don't think it works as well on things that are fitted or semi fitted. If you had picked a linen mix you would have loved it because it wouldn't have creased so much. Never mind it's only by doing these things that we learn and at the end of the day it looks fab on you!!

Thank you so much, I appreciate it ☺️ you’re definitely right. I am keen to try my hand on some stretch linen soon but will steer clear of anything too fitted for sure.

The thing with linen creasing is all just in the mindset i think. With every linen project, you just need to be prepared for it to crease. I love the end product tho. It looks so similar to the original!

Thanks Patricia! It’s funny, it does definitely look close to the original - if I‘d do it again I‘d use a different fabric that stays true to its shape a bit more for sure. Another learning!

I love the idea of covering normal buttons, I think I will give that a go. As you were making the outfit I thought it looked very sophisticated and was surprised to see it had such a casual look at the end, that's linen for you, still love it though.

Just found you today and have watched many of your videos. You did an excellent sewing job and it looked beautiful on you until it wrinkled. I’d make it again in a different fabric.

Lovely, think the design was too structured for linen. I’m sure if you wore them as separates that would help as they are both beautiful pieces.

Linen is actually really nice material and washes beautifully over time but the design here didn’t suit the material. I find Linen looks best in a bit looser designs instead of being closely fitted to the body where the natural creasing becomes more noticeable and makes the garment look sloppy. Also, colour choices matter - best in muted/ faded colours. Just my opinion 🌸

You are definitely right! The set didn’t make it into the bag I packed for vacation unfortunately, so next time I make something fitted like this I’ll be using different fabric for sure 🫠

Hi JL. Can you suggest a suitable fabric for this set?
@lingy74
@lingy74 Жыл бұрын
@@bandana_rathore I would go for a midweigh linen viscose or linen rayon blend so you still get the natural feel but with a softer touch and less creasing.

What if you made the same set but in a different fabric? I really like the idea of the set and it's beautifully sewn but maybe linen is not it.
@ThrillsandStitches

Definitely - I think if you can find something with a bit more body and less prone to crinkling then it could turn out beautifully ✨

I personally despise linen and rayon. They just are not dependable fabrics. I don’t like looking like a wrinkled mess five minutes after you have dressed.

I still love the fabric in itself - I‘ve made quite a few other projects in linen this year which turned out lovely, but this wasn’t one of them 😅
