I took care of a WW2 Vet once. He was in the 2nd wave that stormed Omaha Beach that day, and he said the exact same thing to me. "I'm not a hero. The heroes are the guys that didn't get to come home, and I got to come home." One of the most amazing, humble men I've ever had the privilege of meeting. My town was a battle field earlier between Japanese and British Indian . Indeed many Japanese and English come visit the battle of khonoma grave yard , and they just shed their tears give a last salute to thier left comrades and leave with some donation for the yard maintenance.

My grandfather who passed away in 2009 was on the beaches of Normandy 3rd wave. He was fortunate enough to survive. He went on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge as well and was going to be shipped to the Pacific Theater after that. He took shrapnel from a grenade and was sent back home to his loving wife, who is 95 years old and still kicking. Rest In Peace Grandpa, I love you

Between Battle of Bulge, Battle of Stalingrad and Battle of Kursk I don’t which one was worse or how I would even rank those 3 crucial battles. Because if the Germans won even just 1 of those battles the War would’ve gone on even longer and with any luck they could’ve won.
