Another aspect of Mediumcore that is difficult and nerve wracking is the fact that items disappear after exiting a world so I HAVE TO go recover my items before I can save and exit. I might be at the end of my play session and let my guard down enough that I die and end up potentially having to spend an extra 10-20 minutes on recovery runs cutting into the sleep I'm going to get that night.

This mistake was what made me end my first, and only, mediumcore run
@Firesgone16 күн бұрын
Dying repeatedly due to the remoteness and local hazards on recovery runs can make that 20 minutes hours easily. I like the idea of mediumcore a lot, but the despawning items when you take a break really makes it an additional challenge, especially compared to Minecraft where dropped items persist indefinitely if you are simply too far away while having a despawn timer instead. The sheer variation and difference of gear in Terraria makes losing your optimized set far more costly as enemies are not level with the unequipped player.

I've always thought the nude walk of shame was a fate worse than death in any video game with the option. It is exactly as you said, you only die once but in mediumcore a single death can turn into a death chain and hours of strife. Not only that but the shame of dying is magnified to extreme heights when you lose all your good stuff and essentially have to start over while your hyper developed world mocks you with its splendor.

i think i have a good hint for starting in a mediumcore run, whenever u travel to dangerous place (like jungle, crimson/corruption), try to always make tunnels and segment the areas into "rooms", so if the enemies start to get out of hand u can always go back to the previous section/tunnel, and even if something spawns in the tunnels u can quickly cut them off by placing some blocks. not many people take advantage of the sandbox potential of terraria outside of making arenas/specific setups, simply making tunnels for quickly and safely travelling around is extremely useful at the beginning of runs, and also in general when going mediumcore apparently. fair warning tho, it can't stop enemies like ghosts or worms from getting to u, but at least u can deal with them without also having to fight all the 17 other enemies comming for u. oh, and do bring yoyos with u when using those tunnels, u can wall urself in, break a single block on the wall and then safely kill enemies without issues. some projectiles can also work but u don't have nearly as much precision/sideways range as u'd have with yoyos

I tried the remux thing put it "remuxed" a recording once when I was only a half hour in and it stopped recording, requiring me to start it again and that'd be a pretty big problem. @FrostBird347 Жыл бұрын
@@Throarbin I can't guarantee that it will work with whatever video editing software you use, but you could try using something like ffmpeg to convert the video from mkv to mp4 without re-encoding it (it also wouldn't change the quality in any way), which should take only a minute instead. For example, using ffmpeg you could use "ffmpeg -i input.mkv -map 0 -c copy output.mp4" in terminal, replacing the input.mkv and output.mp4 with your video files (note that you would also need to have ffmpeg installed, another helpful tip is that dragging a file into terminal will paste the file's full path where the cursor is). Obviously this is more technical, but it is something you can take note of and try if you find yourself loosing footage often enough

Mediumcore is the most discouraging of the modes. In classic, you get to jump right back into what you were doing. In hardcore, you get to jump into a new world, so you get the excitement of seeing how the world generates and what types of loot show up. In mediumcore, you aren't jumping back into anything, you're going on a long walk for which you are probably unprepared. It's the difference between a Celeste level where you retry instantly after dying and a Dark Souls boss that requires a five-minute run through dangerous territory every time you fail.

the real reason mediomcore is harder than hardcore is the following : When you die in hardcore, you die. Permanently. But in mediumcore, you have the opportunity to gather your items back, before they despawn. The reason its harder is because you dont just start fresh, and rush to your items leading into a death chain, despawning your items, raging, and eventually just completely restarting.

It's never really anyone's first thought, but Terraria has always had item-based progression. That was one of its novel features back when it released. That's something the devs have talked about. Being able to skip ahead by diving into dangerous places for advanced gear is something every player approves of. And Mediumcore makes you drop everything. Aside from HP/MP that's equivalent to "resetting to level 1" in an rpg. And Terraria does have rpg-like difficulty progression, where no amount of skill can bridge the gap. While this is all basic stuff that everyone _knows,_ it's not how people look at dropping all your stuff on death. They think of the inconvenience it presents in Minecraft or other games, rather than "I literally can't get to the place I died without the tools I dropped there."

As a long time old school runescape player mediumcore makes the game feel alot more rewarding since in osrs you also drop items upon death (not everything but basically mostly everything) And before updates what made things worse are, you'd barely have enough time to make it back not just to collect your loot but being an MMO you're also racing back so other players wouldn't loot your sh*t In retrospect you learn to be careful, use your knowledge on the game and basically take what is needed instead of freely running around without risk hence why medium core is the best character difficulty in Terraria and should be played more often otherwise it's like playing a game you can't lose at.

I usually build my base high enough above the ground so ground enemies cant spawn but too low for harpies to spawn. Make it a solid rectangle and put lava on top, with a hoik elevator immediately above spawn so you can just push up and you'll be in your base in moments, with no ability for enemies to spawn anywhere. Prevents spawn camp soft locking

Me & my bro have only ever played Mediumcore; we like challenges, & we want death to be dreadful enough to want to avoid it as much as possible. Body runs were always just plain part of the game for us, & we assumed that only newbies used the easy mode to start off & learn, before graduating to the "normal" way to play. When we eventually started watching others play on KZbin, we were kinda shocked to see all the big names only doing Babycore (LOL), so we stopped watching anyone play Terraria for years. I mean, what's a "survival game" if death is just an involuntary Magic Mirror or Recall Potion use? 😅 But eventually, I made my peace with the fact that video entertainers don't exactly have the free time to repeatedly reorganize their inventory after hundreds of body runs, & started giving them views. At least keeping your inventory has allowed lots of you folks to challenge yourselves in other crazy ways, which have been amazing to watch. Big props for tackling such a gut-wrenching, patience-twisting challenge, especially when you're so used to not dealing with its punishing consequences. It truly is a grueling, frustrating slog sometimes (& really makes lava a force to be feared; I'm surprised you didn't remark more about many of your items melting forever), & makes one have to play differently & truly value what you have. I don't blame you for not wanting to do it again, LOL, it really is brutal. But thanks for giving it a go, & congrats on overcoming the challenge! (Even if it _is_ just what this gal calls an average play session [haha], it's kept me from really mastering the bosses, instead just barely struggling & surviving, then putting them behind me. This video got me thinking I should actually step back a bit to the easier character mode for while, to practice them more, before returning to "survival near-horror" mode & increasing my chances of successive successes there, so I can finally beat Master Mode too.)

when i first started playing terraria i started off with mediumcore because i thought that only losing money on classic was too easy. probably spent about half of my game time in mediumcore, before i died, lost everything (without managing to get it back), and i ended up starting over in a classic world. still am yet to beat mediumcore

I’ve always wondered why I was okay with dropping my items in Minecraft but in Terraria I never let that happen. In Minecraft, you can always make a plan. There’s always something you can do unless your items were burned up. In Terraria, if you drop everything, and can’t make a pickaxe, it’s over. It’s just over. You *need* multiple load outs in medium core because the world is not only difficult to traverse on its own but it gets harder the more you progress. Something about dropping all your items in Terraria is just so much more heartbreaking than Minecraft.
@Throarbin Жыл бұрын
Well in Terraria you do spawn back in with a pickaxe and what have you so you can get going again. But yeah, it is especially painful losing your stuff in Terraria. Maybe it's just because it's a lot harder to survive and the point of the game is progress while in Minecraft losing your stuff isn't nearly a game ending problem

super late to this since the videos 2 weeks old but the third phase of duke fishron is extremely easy as long as you have a cthulu shield. combined with the knowledge alper gave you, if you dash into fishron when he dashes at you, you avoid all damage since the shield bash gives you just enough invincibility frames to avoid getting hit at all. Thats why i tend to do duke fishron pre mech bosses as summoner since that knowledge makes the third phase a cake walk.

9:37 My first character was on mediumcore and this happened to me Right now this is my 9th attempt to finish terraria 3 hardmode 6 pre hardmode Most of my attempts are mobs either spawn killing me or they won't despawn due to coins (mobs can take your coins and not despawn due to that) (also if you're playing in mediumcore i recommend you placing your coins in vault/piggy bank)

played this with my friends like 3 years ago on expert + large world thinking it was normal difficulty for semi-experienced players. 3/4ths of the run was just various people angrily trying to cross half of the map and descend into hell with nothing but random scraps from chests. no matter where you were, you would always run into someone with trashy armor and no accessories desperately trying to push forward while fending off enemies with their copper pickaxe. one of my worst gaming experiences for sure

I'm pretty sure amphibian boots would be significantly better - both in general and for mediumcore specifically - than anything on the terraspark boots crafting tree.

to anyone who for some reason want's to do mediumcore, please remember that the strongest orce against most enemies is blocks, you don't need that good of a weapon or gear to get your stuff back if you dig your way to it, and you can always build around you to get throught open spaces and make manmade tunnes through caves if need be. Medium core is like playing Hardcore, but you don't die permanently, it's just as painful to die,k but to add insult to injury you also need to walk to your stuff.

The only case where mediumcore can ever be harder than hardcore is when you're being chain spawnkilled in an invasion with no time limit like martians or hardmode goblins. Even then, it really is just not hard to make a sky box with chests of gear backups so you can just pick up your dropped loot in a few minutes and get back to business. And yeah, you did get the goblins to spawn right as you died halfway across the world. On the bright side, there, you can just put some platforms and solid blocks a little bit up and clear things out with the enchanted boomerang. If you had dug pits beside your doors, your NPCs wouldn't have died either. Even if we assume you lost your gear in, say, pre-Skeletron dungeon at a height where you couldn't possibly get it back, even with potions of return, you've still done hours of exploration and building and progression that you physically cannot lose. In terms of babyproofing, hardcore worlds also need that more, because if you make a mistake in mediumcore you can still undo that mistake. Lost all your rope? Get merchant and buy more. Put money in your piggy bank, information accessories and potions in your void bag. I'd also like to point out that every single death in this video took far less time to recover from than you spent in the playthrough up to that point. If you average a death once every 2 hours in mediumcore, you get a few extra hours of playtime by the end of your run. If you average a death once every 2 hours in hardcore, it would take a par of 800+ hours just to survive a single 40 hour run. For gameplay tips, consider torches? Being able to actually see things is surprisingly useful for not dying to them. Beyond torches, flaming arrows, glowsticks, enchanted boomerang, and especially flare gun are great for this. So many earlygame deaths just from you not considering that there could be enemies in the darkness... Also, don't melee jellyfish, when they go into their invincible shock attack on expert and above, they shock you through your melee weapons. That's why you died to that jellyfish, and they actually deal boosted damage through this method.

The way I like to play medium core difficulty is, build statues to place my old armor and always have a chest full of back-up essentials. Make multiples and sort your gear into chests. An example would be "I have 3 chests. 1 contains potions, another contains weapons and the last contains ingredients for potions". Also, I never really use rope either. I use platforms instead. Quick and easy, or slow and steady. All that being said, I suck anyways and can't handle the game past the wall of flesh lol.
@RamesGamesLC7 ай бұрын
This video is the epitome of humans failing to adapt to something because they perceive the difficulty or consequence to be lesser than another challenge simply because on a list, calling it "medium" means it doesn't need approached with as much caution. As you've experienced, mediumcore is FAR more punishing than hardcore for the exact reason you explained. You have to endure the challenge, respawning with nothing knowing everything you had is out there potentially unable to be retrieved is more punishing than hardcore, where, in a same but different manner you actually just start over. Having to crawl through the events beaten and battered and slog back to lost items using far less caution than deserved is what makes it challenging.

Well you know what they say. In hardcore you prepare to stay alive. In mediumcore you prepare for death. Although imo the biggest part that makes it harder isn't the softlock that prevents you from progressing. It's the softlock that keeps you from surviving long enough to pause and hit menu. Unless you play on the pause in the inventory setting like a baby, you could get absolutely bodied and be forced to use alt f4. I am trying modded Terraria and just beat the mech bosses in calamity and starsabove in one, and I remember the goblin army screwed me that hard WITH MY GEAR, and if I wasn't on classic I would be doomed.

make a minecart tracks spanning from the left side of the world to the right. Even on casual core, even on hard core, especially on medium. At worst its a very good time save for a dirt cheap amount of resources, at best its a game saver. well i guess you could just use pylons aswell, but its still usful to have tracks in the spaces between pylons
