I speak 4 languages and diction is always a challenge. That's why we have accents! But singing in a foreign language is REALLY hard. And English is VERY difficult to sing in. We have so many diphthongs that don't exist in many other languages. They are difficult to pronounce - "th" for example - while speaking let alone singing; they can sound harsh or stunted and completely change the feel of a song. I LOVE that Dimash doesn't let that stop him, AND that he also works so hard on improving his skills. He's so inspiring!

Congratulations to Dimash, who performed this song at the Chinese contest "I'm Singer". Dimash's english pronunciation has improved a lot since this performance. But that one point where he holds that note and then he goes higher after 10 seconds. Crazy, crazy, crazy. To be at this performance and hear it live must have been an absolute thrill.

I’ve always admired how much courage Dimash has. The way he’s willing to put himself out there and be vulnerable in order to give his audience an emotional performance in their own language❤ He always impresses me so much. It takes so much guts to perform a song on live TV in a language you don’t speak. I believe he only knew a few English words at this point.❤ His vocals in this are out of this world!❤

He only has a high vocals but I cannot feel the true emotions when he sings because he's just hitting and hitting and hitting those high notes and me listening to him gets exhausted. I can't feel the heart of the song anymore. As a listener, I want the singer to convey the true message of the song even if the voice goes higher. That's my own opinion. I appreciate him more when he sings in his usual high notes where you can still appreciate the melody of what he's singing.

I like the New Wave version too, but The Singer is definitely my favorite. He took off any breaker he mentally placed on himself as he was trying to get the top spot that week. The week before he had sung Uptown Funk (Not the best, but it wasn't bad either, and his wardrobe was strange) He had placed 6th. He did place #1 with Adagio and was safe from elimination. If you ever want to watch all the Singer songs in a row there is KZbin video with all songs. But the list is 1. SOS First episode and he was the first to perform as the "wildcard" 2. Opera 2 3. В отличие от многих профессионалов вы не перегружаете контент специфическими терминами, а объясняете исполнение Димашем музыки доступным языком. Многие профессионалы указывают на использование Димашем десятков технических приемов. Вы можете объяснить как молодой, 23-х летний парень смог их в таком возрасте изучить и грамотно применять при исполнении. На мой взгляд многие технические приемы Димаш применяет интуитивно, не задумываясь где и что применить! И в этом наверное его гениальность (это помимо диапазона). А реклама не должна быть более 30 секунд - иначе начнется раздражение и отторжение.

Regarding Dimash's English language evolution, I think he doesn't have any great number of English speakers, particularly native speakers, surrounding him. He comes from central Asia and the closest neighbours to Kazakhstan are Russia and China. The old Soviet Union ruled his country until 1991 and so he grew up speaking Russian as well as Kazakh. When he entered the Singer competition he began learning Mandarin and he hears them and speaks to them often. English, not so much so his development is likely slower. He is a very bright man to say the least and he improves all the time but his English may always be accented and part of his charm. At every concert he welcomes his audience and says, "Thank you for your coming". I love this charming saying. It is so Dimash to me. Thank you Richard and Johnny, as always.

@joyrobinson4585 English is one of the compulsory national curriculum subjects at all schools in Kazakhstan. Dimash probably focus more on his music education and pay less attention to English curriculum. Both of his siblings Raushan and Mansur speak English quite well.

I enjoy your reactions so much, especially your reactions to Dimash. I remember the first time I watched this performance four years ago, right after discovering him. I was critical of the addition at the end, showing off his high range, because that’s not how the song is supposed to go! 😮 😟 Of course, I wasn’t taking into consideration that he was in a competition where he needed to show his skills, duh. I now consider this one of his best performances on the Singer show, and if memory serves me, it brought him back from the brink of being voted out of the competition. If you and Johnny haven’t watched the entire I Am A Singer competition from 2017, you really should. It’s worth it. You know, in your spare time. 😂 Anyway, thank you so much for this reaction. Thank you guys for your wonderful reaction. Always enjoy seeing how you react to our beloved Dimash. I love this version of his Adogio performance. He barely just learned the English lyrics the week prior, just by pronunciation. He gave it his all, as always. Such a passionate rendition. You totally believe every word he sang and felt that heart wrenching plea, “ YOU STAY!” and “you won’t let go…” You saw people in the audience crying and had their minds blown. The other competitors were all well established artists/musicians in China, and they were shocked and taken back by Dimash and what he could do, and this was back in 2017. Just love Dimash. I remember watching that the first time. I listen to his singing so much for the past seven years that sometimes I forget that he plays good piano. I was so mesmerised as if I just heard him play the first time lol. Would love to watch another person who plays piano reacting to him on the piano. I dont play any musical instrument and I never study music so I have no way to judge or rate his skills so there is this feeling of needing to know if I am just biased when it comes to Dimash that wether whatever he touches becomes gold, are just in my eyes and ears.

I’ve noticed he’s better at differentiating such words as “heard” and “heart”, two “ea” words pronounced so differently now. He’s amazing. I could never reach his growing talent with languages. Also, I did watch the full season of the 2017 season of I Am A Singer. It was a really nice show. The singers were all so supportive of each other. Nothing like our American voice competitions. It was a great watch. They were so sweet to Dimash as the only non-Chinese competitor who didn’t speak their language. There were reasons he did not win the first place and it wasn’t what people are saying, that he wasn’t Chinese so he couldn’t win. These were really intense professional singers. He sang his brand of Dimash quirky songs and I think some of the audience members who were rating the singers didn’t get him like they understood their own culture of music. They appreciated what he was doing but tended towards what they understood and were used to hearing. He did come in second and found his millions of Dears anyway so he won no matter what.

Yes his English has improved markedly. Remember in 2017 he had virtually no conversational English. All learned phonetically. Having learned to sing in several different & totally unfamiliar languages myself - in Choral work (many moons ago) - without the score in front of me - with my notations about various vowels & emphasises - I'd be totally lost! For him to do this well from memory... + the melody, the story telling, the dynamic shifts... Just incredible.

I am absolutely crazy about this song and performance of Dimash, as well as, all his performances in this competition. Iconic! Adagio was simply one of my favorites which is many times hard to pick out since there are so many favorites. As you said, something about the rawness at the young age. The power too at that age. I have come to think about Dimash’s voice like small very ordinary looking tool box that one might find in the magical world of Harry Potter, for when it is opened it has heights and depths that are unimaginable! On every level there is isle upon isle, shelf upon shelf of tools and beautiful instruments that we as mere humans have no words. This otherworldly boy was sent to us when the world needed him the most, because when he opens the box,and skillfully,effortlessly, and seamlessly glides from floor to floor, from isle to isle, magically proving every device ,what is rendered brings love, joy, and inclusivity to mankind.
