Throne and liberty is an upcoming MMORPG that’s certainly gone through its ups and downs in terms of hype from the MMO community, this game has been in development for over 10 years at this point and earlier in the year most people had written it off as another MMO that’d be DOA, this was due to the games incredibly static combat system and the game seemingly being designed around Autoplay, even I took the opportunity to load up the memes and make a KEKW video about Throne And Liberty.
To my surprise though the developers actually listened to the community feedback and made massive changes to the game, changes such as removing the auto combat, adjusting the progression and most importantly making the combat system more fluid with every ability no longer statically rooting you in place.
Throne & Liberty has just released in Korea so In this video you’ll get my first impressions of the game with a first impressions pros and cons list at the end, IF I enjoy the game enough to make it to end game I’ll make a follow up full review video as I usually do with big MMO releases.

Apart from the gorgeous world design, I think another reason this MMO looks so damn good is the heavy use of subsurface scattering in all of the foliage. You can see the sunlight piercing through the leaves and grass.

Im playing in KR for approx a month now and the game is gorgeous, especially the sunsets in open fields with colourful flowers,it reminds me of the atmosphere feeling i had when i played Lineage 2 back in 2005. Devs release frequent fixes and updates and from what i see they constantly work on it,i hope they don't drive the game into the ground in the future,it has a lot of potential.

@@ElSabio159 At the moment it consist of grinding pve or pvp events(depending of preference) dailies aka contracts,dungeons instanced and open,riftstones and worldbosses.There are things to do but not a shit ton.Sieges will be unlocked in February iirc and devs work on adding new stuff.Im currently releveling a 3rd char and im having a blast,the game has potential i hope they don't screw it up in NC fashion

This Game unironically has/had so much potential... I specifically loved your take on "sometimes you get lost in systems", and modern mmos would simply scale down and put less of the systems down, reduce the amount of "collect 1000 rewards through different menus" and this could be very good example of what a lot of people are longing from mmo -> an Adventure through the immersive world and not the menus.

Being one of those who was wowed by the first trailers, than got pissed off when the autoplay shenanigans got out, now being back to wanting to play it, this video just made me want to play more. From what i've seen the combat system is a dumbed down version of the older mmo's, which I think is a good think I don't have to manage 5 tabs of skils. Looks bloody amazing (RIP my laptop) and the I'm so up for a questing system that doesn't hold your hand like a 3yo everywhere you go.

Quests are Basic af , game is running high graph at 1660super at 60fps easy on pc , combat ramps up but still closed eye gameplay , bosses are sponges 0 threat , visuals are OP but ... Basic gameplay loop is extremely boring , late game is all about pvp honestly if you want to have anything to do... And then its not reward driven and also its still boring af i had better times in cyrodill in ESO of zerging pvp reward track on gw2 for a legendarny weapon.. this game is a bait dont wait for it.. go Play GW2 if you want chilli slow grind for fashion and Basic 15button combat :D

@@gnarlylocks7752 the questing is 0 brain 99%quests you click a name on the quest log you then see map or npc and the mobs are tagged on minimap with 4 different colours for each type of activity . There is nothing oldschool there its kinda like mobile game automated they only changed that when you click the name it doesnt run for you ,rest stayed the same xddd (played Alpha and 250h release) you dont have to trust me you will feel the same after playing it yourself brother but mby not i guess i wish you all the best still

It's NCSoft. It will inevitably become a MMO "store-front" for a P2W cash shop. Only a matter of time. It's all they know how to create anymore. I'm gonna at least check it out 'cause I hear it has some "DNA" of Lineage 2 in it - which I used to love back in the day when it was a sub-based MMO, before NCSoft went full-on cash shop crazy. Yup, what I love in every MMO is the leveling process, once I reach max level, it's like... what now?... I beat the game... Because once you've reached the max level there's not much to progress except getting better gear. I know "end-game" is a big part of MMO but it wasn't always like this. Leveling make the MMO special, I remember seeing players with higher level than me and it was always pushing me and motivate to play more. If you can reach max lvl in less than 100 hours the game is bad designed

Thank you for the summary! It does look great, and it has this "new" feeling we are always looking for. Still, this is a Korean MMO with P2W aspects and hundreds of enchantment items and fail systems that we have seen so many times. I will jump on the hype train, but honestly, I don't think that we will stay there for a long time.

No fail system for enchants. No loss of equipment either. You can also transfer upgrading of weapon/armor to next piece. It's very forgiving for a Korean MMO.

It seems the devs are seriously watching the youtubers as well. They have already greatly changed questing since launch, especially requirements like waiting for rain, dark, etc, etc. I think AGS will clean up the unintuitive questing quite a bit for western launch as well.

It will never happen. Korean MMO’s are made by devs who work 12+ hours in an office because of pride in their work as part of their culture. In the US that will never happen… Hell they force overtime for two months on a dev studio and major news outlets are reporting on it and lawsuits start being filed. Korean gamer mentioned this last week actually. He said and I quote “ i’m kind of sad because I want to keep playing this game all day long for 20 hours but I can’t because there’s nothing to do and it’s because the deaths want to go home at five if you want this game to work you have to stay till 10 and nobody wants to do that right now they are slacking and the game might fail for it. 100% agreed on your impressions. That's exactly how i am feeling while playing it. - Everyone feels like the same because theres no class identity and just a few weapons that you can't even mix all of them the way you want because of Stats. A staff and a Greatsword would drastically reduce your damage on both. - Every stream i watch is doing exactly the same thing i am doing at early levels. Repeatable world events and contracts. It's already getting boring for me, i can't imagine going through endgame doing the same.

I had dismissed the game at some point during development, but having been inspired by the dev's listening to feedback and making adjustments, I decided to give it a try - and I have to say, I'm low-key blown away by how good it is overall. There were many moments even in the first 20-ish levels where I found myself keenly aware of my positive or just powerful emotional response to something the game was delivering, be it a beautiful vista, an impressively smooth switch from cutscene to gameplay or intense action of an open world dynamic event where you're competing against other players and fighting the clock. If I say "Wow!" or "Holy shit" out loud during a game, I have to consider it worth playing. It's not perfect by any means, but given the MMO landscape right now, it'll do. It'll definitely do.

Im playing it right now and pretty impressed by the game, as a former Runescaper it feels really good to play. Tried lots of other mmos but they don't feel the same and I never been a fan of class based games where you cant change your weapons on the fly. Unlike other games where you can swap weapons like New World, the map is huge and doesn't feel empty when you walk through it.

I think it’s a fair point to make about it being bugged. From what I’ve seen there are a lot of buggy quests that wouldn’t actually be hard to figure out if the game worked properly and if the translation of quests was better. That’s not a fun kind of challenge.

4:44 BDO has an undo button in its character customization... not just a button but a whole log of all changes you make that you can click on to revert up to a certain place.

Gorgeous and no need for alts because you can level everything on one character are 2 massive selling points for me. I know a lot of people say graphics don't matter, but for me personally they really really do. If they fine-tune the combat and smooth out some of the janky controls then I'll likely be investing a good amount of time into this one.

Pretty sure this is gonna be an ALT fest if currencies are account bound and content has daily and weekly cooldowns like all korean mmos. Also you won’t be able to max everything. It costs a ridiculous amount of gold and materials to upgrade armor/wep and skills.. So you’re really gonna be forced to choose.

Based on what I have seen out of videos of players that are much deeper into the Game so far (of course I cannot know your current off screen progress) I think you have became, in this video of yours an >honest< part of the "it`s getting much better later on" mechanic. Like for some things there is no other way to "build them". I can give car engine and it building up revs (even thou that actually really is quite fast newer days, you are like gas, shift, shift, shift into forth 160... but still the rev`o`meter starts from 0 till you get "torque values") as an example. My personal impressions are that this game is in fact very heavily team/party (possibly and most likely/desirable out of guild) orientated equipment builder. The combat isn`t bad, it`s just "maxed out" fairly fast. All your skills leveled and arranged in chosen rotations, all your passives set. Next up... Tweak them >visible< numbers via the equip. Weather it is the frequency and size of offensive numbers, or your longevity in the combat... It`s all them equipment grades, item`s personal stats, them being part of viable sets or not (I do see something resembling sets if I am correct but I am assuming actually gathering and leveling one of those will be a very hard task especially the viable ones) and than Traits available per those items. As I've already commented I'd personally (if I were playing T&H) attempt to find defensive pieces that offer Max HP, Mele Evasion, Ranged Evasion... But are pieces like that even available, are their other >in build stats< viable... Isn`t Skill DMG reduction better... those are all things T&H players will have to find out by themselves. Yet of course if you want actual equipment builder I suggest ARGP, like Diablo 4 or Path of Exile (which is a bit dated but it will soon be refreshed by it`s 2nd release). Now what those games do lack is great 3D sceneries as the ones seen on TLP`s screen and and fulfilling party play. Of course in both of the arpgs parties are possible and fun, but they are bam, slam, thank you ma`am kind of thing where overpowering yourself to "solo carry" is possible and desired and team play is actually intended meme. In T&H is nothing Meme about party and I personally really really dislike that since it`s mostly feels like other people are w8sting your time of doing what you want, or you are w8sting theirs occasionally but either time it`s a lot of w8st of time. (of course if you do not actually like to ~spend, let`s say, your time that way). Now you probably do it also solo somewhat... but like 5x time slower (so even more time ~spent) and also for naught. Over time mmorpgs and League of Legends have completely ruined my strive for party play, so I will stick to a mmorpg where it isn`t much of an requirement at all, but oddly enough if you are fairly new to games ~I Advice you not to be like me right away... Get disappointed by party play yourself first, if you do at all, seek out that other not so party orientated yet great mmorpg world later :P. And how can a game be massive and multiplayer actually requiring much of a direct other player interaction... well now that is bot the trick and the charm of around there. Now if that sounds somehow very dumb and broken in your mind ~ T&H it is. And if you are American and want to support your local industry out of nationalism you might as well just go WoW... because why not. It`s just it`s graphics are much more dated, outside of that it`s class, skilling, passives, everything is like ~20 years worth of development better. NC soft of course are not out of yesterday... some do claim this is Linage 3 (where I and 2 actually exist, for those of you that do not know). But the thing is that if newer releases of a game do not get simplified to their previous releases, no new player play em, and the old player base will not bother to swap to the same game with different graphics either (Most of them at least). so T&H class and skill and possibly many other things mechanically wise is like ~much easier to put it that way. I am not saying complex, complicated and hard is good (I am not that smart) it just well... Naah I don`t even wanna talk about it. Keep it Simple. Keep in mind (while on keeping stuffs like Keep the Hair Product Dahn Rob is promoting) that WoW already is more simple than Linage 2 and in comparison to this dual skill few passives and the mastery three + items system, Wow still is nuclear physics in it`s game mechanics part in comparison to this. I could of course be utterly wrong since I have neither played WoW to high end not have I ever played T&H and I am practically making those claims out of thin air.

When I saw the first trailers for this game I was impressed. Then the beta feedback from Korea came out and I was disappointed. But seeing as how the developers listened to said feedback and actually made changes gives me hope. I'll definitely be giving this a session or two when Amazon publishes the Western/International release.

Personally I think this game has real potential to get better over time like New World has. Biggest reason for that is they've already shown that they're willing to listen to the player base and make improvements. So I think if we are patient and give good, honest feedback in time they'll probably improve it more. This was a game I had written off a long time ago when I saw initial gameplay, however I am a more patient gamer and after having seen this I do see myself giving this a good honest try! My guess is Korean beauty standards. Even though it isn't consciously noticeable, western MMO's allow some "ugliness" with the facial/body proportions. Whereas in the land with the highest % of plastic surgery, they probably have some algorithm or ratio to make characters and even enemies look "ideal".

The skillbook upgrade spam, and the transfer of enhancement levels to your new equipment are very reminiscent of a lot of the server rush, auto playing 'mmo-like' cash grabs NC soft and others are notorious for; I've got a few of those games covered on my videos... It's doing me a concern. Might be OK to pass the time while we wait for PoE2 and AoC I guess... I'll give it a go when I can get access...

It was in development longer than 10 years. I remember this being announced as Lineage Eternal back in 2011 and believe it was in development longer than that. It's been turned into so many different things over the years so surprised it actually launched in some form lol

I think what would be more interesting is have like a common enemy. Something that floods out of a portol or some maybe less generic fantasy thing but it takes lands. If the players don't actually fight it off and destroy whatever it is coming from, it'll just keep getting worse. Maybe at first, it's not a big deal, but the more and more that it takes over the lands, the less lands for resources or in the way of questing. When thinking of playing most MMOs, a lot of the ideas of them sort of bore me. I do like the idea of a living world but doing quests after quests of killing a set number of things is just the worst. If not interesting quests, what about a common goal, keep back the ever coming horde of whatever. New World sort of does something similar and it's my favorite part and honestly the only interesting thing about that game. Maybe at certain events, a fog rolls in, and within that fog is a legion of baddys with a ghost boat you can destroy. OOOh, what if there was two different events; one of the fog dudes, and the other of gross swamp guys and at some point, they could meet and duke it out if they spread in that direction. Of course I'm just using these as examples but something out of the box. I mean, could have the quests, the taverns games, and so on. I was just thinking of something that's a pretty big deal that rolls in after a while that actually makes an impact. Not like Diablo 4's Hell tides that just feel like a gimmick with no real stakes in it. You can ride right through it without an issue. And it's timed, so it's not like you can make it stop. The game already has some really cool environmental stuff going on that I've always wanted in a game like this, but I needs something more in actual gameplay. I'm only throwing my wet noodle of ideas at a wall to see what sticks but an out of box gameloop would be amazing. I don't need a wow killer because I never liked wow. I want a game that it is it's own thing.

I think we should be paying more attention to the fact that they had a horrid, mobile/predatory style with auto play and stationary combat. and in a matter of a few months, completely turned it around. If we were paying attention, it's.....almost like, they mean to make shitty games because they are easy to mass produce and even easier to get people to waste money. It's almost like all these games have the ability to make good games, but the consumer allows them to make shit.

have you played it? they haven't really turned it around, they disabled autoplay yeah, but the combat feels clunky and still feels like you've taken control of an autoplay game lol. they still have only a premium currency marketplace, no trading, no gathering, no player crafting, only 2 zones, no races, few weapons with limited skills etc. I don't believe NCSoft are some insanely talented studio that are on the cusp of creating some next gen masterpiece but instead yield to modern design/monetization trends. they are by all means in decay and in a downtrend, calling them Korea's Blizzard would be a generous compliment. I'm sure the next mobile Lineage title is on its way, but for now we have 'project TL', the amazing new PC MMORPG that is worse on every dimension except graphics than its predecessors from the 2000s

So i gave it a try, its worth playing just to look at. Game is gorgeous and looks fantastic. All the issues you seemed to have as well Peon can be fixed with better ping, I was using exit lag and had lik 96% good performance on the flying and grappling. As well the combat felt alot more fluid then in your video.

Recently picked this up and have been playing the KR release, from what ive seen the issues youre having with flight form/the grapple are mainly due to ping assuming youre playing Through a VPN, weve been fighting that issue for our entire time/seems like its a pretty consistent issue with people playing through a VPN

I've been covering the game on my channel since day 1 of KR release and racked up over 200 hours and I can honestly say that you haven't even experienced 10% of what TL has to offer. In todays gaming and MMORPG world the one thing that any player and gamer values the most is how developers care about the game by listening to feedback and improving on it. So far NCSoft has done an amazing job and I have already played for over 200h and every week they fix bugs and add new QOL changes that players requested. Yes, game is p2w, and it has bots and RMT, but every new MMORPG is like this, deal with it. Saying the game won't even be top5 mmorpgs in the west is a bold statement knowing amazon is publishing it. And lets be real there isn't any competition. Ashes of creation is long time from releasing, and honestly TL feels and plays much better than AOC. AOC in UE5 looks like its been made in 2010. The only MMORPG that will break the MMORPG world and has a chance at taking the throne is whatever RIOT Games comes up with. Everything else will be a mediocre at best, and thats ok. If the game is fun play it, try it, if not don't and go back to whatever you were playing, but don't then start crying how devs don't care about the game u are playing and don't fix any issues. For now you have NCSoft that does great job and that is more then enough for me to give this game a try.

You're clearly biased since your channel revolves around covering the game, but still the amount of Copium huffing is off the charts here. Just the fact NCSoft is publishing it ensures its failure in the future. Just look at what they've done to Blade and Soul, started out F2P then they ramped up the P2W overtime like crazy, it was disgusting. Now the game is dead. Also no competition in the West? So let's just forget about WoW (retail and classic), FFXIV, GW2, ESO, New World, Lost Ark, BDO, Runescape and god knows how many more smaller MMOs and or private servers of MMOs (such as Lineage 2) people still play? This game will be lucky if it retains the same population Lost Ark currently has after a while since its release, which is around 20-30k players across all regions if you dont count the bots.

I think every one should give the game a good try (lvl to max and do some endgame stuff) it will be F2P so it will not hurt, and if you are a full casual pve player don't need to worry about p2w or buying anything in the game. For people that have a mmorpg they like and play right now i doubt that people will swich to TL, but for people like me that don't have any mmorpg to play because you hate all of them it's a nice game to scratch the mmorpg itch.

Kanon has a very good video on the state of P2W in the game. His foreigner only guild is #1 on the server, and they're all F2P since as foreigners they can't even use the korean in game shop. He said that getting a bis weapon upgraded to max level is easily doable within a month of playing. Paying players can't pay their way into being stronger than others because there's a hard cap to how strong the player character can get. That said, auction house functions entirely on premium currency. This means you can earn the premium currency easily by selling stuff there, but it also means that you can buy anything on there for real money. This won't skip all of the grind, as some things have to be farmed and there's no way around it, but as long as someone lists the appropriate items on the auction house you could spend money to get yourself full base level bis gear
