Again, this is personal preference and from the looks of these other comments, most people agree Edit: I’ve seen a few comments from you simply saying it’s a multiplier. throttle controllers like idrive don't claim to increase power but what they do is give a better throttle response, so if you press your throttle to 25% it wont cause the ecu to think that you have the applied 70% throttle but what it will is change the codes being sent to the ecu so you can achieve your 25% much quicker. not increasing power but improving throttle response.

@UltimateDieselTuning4 жыл бұрын
@@louismccully5411 the PWR buttons are throttle controllers Louis. The point of this video is to PROVE that they do not provide actual gains in power or torque, or increase the engine's performance - they do not increase turbo boost down low to minimise turbo lag. All of that is done via custom dyno tune, not a throttle controller. A lot of people think that they do increase the performance but they don't. All they do is just recalibrate the throttle settings of the car - they trick the ECU into thinking that you have applied more throttle input than you actually have. The response provided by one can be perfectly replicated by pushing the accelerator pedal further, minus the almost imperceptible time it takes to move the pedal a bit more. Fitment of one will simply increase the voltage from the throttle input in the ECU. So, it will still have the maximum 4.5Volt input to the ECU, it's just that a throttle controller will tell the ECU "4.5Volts" at a smaller throttle input (less pressure on the accelerator pedal). In standard form, 100% throttle is 4.5volts, so quite simply having your foot at 100% throttle (foot to the floor) achieves the same output in both cases. Therefore, a throttle controller simply tricks your brain - you are only slightly pressing the throttle & the car is seemingly "going like the clappers", simply because the controller has increased the signal to the ECU - that's all that happens. By altering the relationship between your foot & your brain, you have a perceived gain, less lag etc, but it's really just the fact that the car is going better than expected because you have had to move your foot as much on the accelerator pedal. So, in other words - all you have to do is put your foot further down on the accelerator pedal for the same effect.

throttle controllers cause problems down the track to the computer. I had to unplug mine on a 3.2 Wildtrak. I went to Ford with the engine fault light coming on. They plugged in their scanner and asked if I had introduced any electronic device.I said I fitted a throttle controller. They unplugged it and the problem was fixed. They also said that it can also void warranty. Yes they do give a quicker response on the throttle/

Doesnt say in the video what setting the throttle controller was sitting on. But for me. Ultimate 4 or 5 is a vast increase. Economy and off doesnt drive near the same. Much better acceleration and less lag with it set on ultimate 4 or 5. Well in my old ML Triton anyhow. Can speak for newer stuff. And mine is untuned. So id expect thw tune to be way better thwn a throttlw controller.
@UltimateDieselTuning11 ай бұрын
It doesn't matter which setting is on - there is zero actual increases in power or torque with one of these. There is also no less turbo lag, at all! It feels like it's going better, simply because the ECU thinks your foot is down further on the throttle pedal than it actually is.
@nthngray2 жыл бұрын
If there was just a simple device that removed any significant communication delay (latency) between the throttle pedal and the throttle actuator then this would be all that is needed. These throttle controllers and their many different settings just reduce the amount of pedal travel needed to get to 80/90/100% throttle. Total placebo effect in a small box. Again, if the drive by wire pedals behaved like an old school cable throttle with absolutely no delay (latency) then driving style would be all that is needed to change

@UltimateDieselTuning4 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. Unfortunately throttle controllers do not give you less turbo lag or engine lag. They only give less THROTTLE lag, which can also be almost perfectly replicated by changing your driving style. They do not make the engine more responsive or give it more power down low. Cheers!

Lol how will the torque curve change? You're changing the linearity of the throttle. It removes the ramping effect of a factory throttle so when you go 100% on the throttle the time between pedal press and the throttle body butterfly opening essentially making it a cable throttle. But it also reduces pedal clarity it's like you lose pedal range. Dyno power runs are done at 100% throttle the speed at which the throttle is applied isn't going to change the torque curve lol the only way to change the torque curve is by physically changing the engine and or bolt on mods. God people are dumb.

Who on here criticising the idrive tows anything with a diesel? None, I'll bet. Being able to get instant throttle response, without any factory lag, thus producing maximum power when you need it, makes overtaking while towing one hell of a lot safer.
@UltimateDieselTuning4 ай бұрын
Hi there! It does not reduce lag mate in the real world - it might feel like it does, but that's because these devices are multipliers. But, as per this video, no actual reduction in turbo lag is achieved by installing one of these. It does not get you up to maximum power quicker.

Perfect video. I was so confused reading all the reviews how it would be possible. Seems like people are just scared of flooring their accelerator so they need a little box to do it for them. Ever driven a Toyota Yaris (slow one)? The throttle is mapped so aggressively it feels like it's got plenty of power, but the engine is pretty much at full throttle at only 50% pedal application.

It’s more for cars which have adjustable suspension and driving modes which are connected and don’t have the custom mode. The nice soft suspension settings have crappy soft throttle response. BMW let you set the ride comfort and engine control separately, so you can have the nice soft ride with quicker throttle response, which Lexus don’t have.
@dalefaurschou3167 Жыл бұрын
You are referring to this device as a throttle controller. Is this correct ? Or are you testing a Throttle Response Controller ? A Throttle Response Controller only does what is says. Changes the response time. It does not change the position of the throttle body valve in connection to the throttle pedal, 0 =0, 25%=25%, 50%=50% and so forth. It changes ONLY the response time NOT the position !

I installed a Hikeit throttle controller on my 2007 Gu Patrol, it didn't remove the lag, but the Patrol is MUCH smoother! The turbo also punches much harder, but that seems a mute point as its the lag leading to the turbo we want gone. That being said, the Patrol now feels like a car and not a truck. I would definitely recommend it, best money I spent on the car.

Hey mate. The turbo appears to punch harder, simply because the ECU thinks your foot is down on the accelerator pedal than it really is. Thats it. Putting your foot down further & quicker on take off does the exact same thing.

Instant throttle is still a win when your car is used for burnouts/drifting or any form of racing. If shops reduced the prices a little things like this would take off at all. Hundreds just to load a program to an ecu is silly. Especially when it’s possible to re map it yourself if you have the time to learn.
@UltimateDieselTuning4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate. We definitely do not just load a program into the ECUs, that's not ideal & not a good way to go about it. Please see one of our earlier videos on our custom dyno tuning process so that you understand. Thanks!

I love my throttle controller. Its just a cheaper way to go. Cost me 260 remapping ecu starts at 800 and can go to 2 grand. I'll stick with my controller for now.
@UltimateDieselTuning3 жыл бұрын
Throttle controllers & custom dyno tuning are two completely different things & are not to be compared. One doesn't give you more power or torque (the throttle controller), & one does (the custom dyno tune). Also, a good custom dyno tune that is done properly, is a fair bit more than $800.
@lukaszM46 Жыл бұрын
using these throttle controllers, the idea is that if you press the throttle to let's say 25% it won't make the ECU think that you have the applied 70% throttle, instead it should make the throttle open up to 25% like requested, but do it a lot quicker, eliminating the delay thus eliminating throttle lag. This faster throttle valve actuation to the specified value cannot be achieved by just having a heavier foot like you suggest. Also, this would invalidate your claim that these devices are simple signal multipliers. How do they actually work? no idea, i would assume there is a throttle map in the ECU, which determines how fast the throttle opens, but these throttle controllers only modify the signals from the pedal and don't modify the throttle map. But a lot of people say the improvement in responsiveness is noticeable and worth it. There is a nice demo on YT by sprint booster, which tries to visualise how it works, although it's not shown on a real car, so who knows if that's what's actually happening. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3bOda2piNaFnZY

You'd have a more enjoyable time beating your head against a brick wall than trying to explain what a throttle controller is to these people 🤦♂️ I've been saying this for years to people, it just manipulates the voltage to make the ecu think your foot is pressing the accelerator further than you actually are. I think % are too hard for these people. If you push the pedal 1cm the controller tells the ecu it's 1.5cm, that's it! Nothing more, nothing less, that's all it does. Any performance gain is purely a placebo effect because your brain says I'm only pressing it lightly and the car is accelerating so much faster cause the throttle controller is pressing the pedal further down for you 🤷♂️ I swear someone will come out with those rare earth magnet things to go on fuel lines again and the same people that think a throttle controller gives their car more power will be raving about realigning fuel ions for getting 20% more power. People have access to an entire world of real, tested, and verified information in their pocket and they're still believing a throttle controller is breaking the laws of physics, if this is the sign we've peaked as a species we're so fucked lol

iDRIVE you’re full of it. Watch that whole video, it literally has the same result as this. It only made more power when he limited the pedal travel to only around 10% of factory. That’s where your gimmick works. It shortens the amount of pedal used to achieve WOT. Clearly you guys at idrive are a part of the sheep who think they increase performance. This video here is proof that it doesn’t do shit that you couldn’t do yourself with adjusting your driving style.

There's more to it than just throttle % pressed. Many cars 'ramp' up the throttle signal electronically to make it smoother, more comfortable or more economical. The throttle controller removes this and so acceleration is quicker, even though there is no more power.

@UltimateDieselTuning Жыл бұрын
No, you do not put down the power sooner. It's just the feeling that it does, but in the real world it doesn't. Most customers that we deal with think that they do this, when they do not improve the engine's power or torque, they do not bring the "power on sooner" and they do not reduce turbo lag.
