For those of you debating: Yes, we really did buy this WRX in Ontario for $5,000. It was a screamin deal, and we jumped on it very fast when it popped up. In fact we had people calling us the evening we bought it to offer to buy it off of us for more than we paid. Is it rare to find one for this much? Yes. Is it possible? Yes. Don't forget that after we bought it we needed to work on it to get it road legal. Needed a CV Axle, a handbrake rebuild, a new airbag etc. (Also the alternator is going and the other CV axle is pooched), But either way it was an amazing deal, and it's possible to find them this cheap. In fact there is another video on this channel from a while ago with an unmodified Bugeye WRX that was purchased for $6,000. So keep your eyes open! Happy hunting and thanks for watching!

My Fiesta ST has rev hold as well, and it's slightly annoying. However I have figured out that if you don't let of the throttle completely (leave a light pressure) it will trip the throttle sensor enough to not hold revs, but not enough to actually rev the engine, and the RPM will drop. So as I shift, I'll leave my foot on the gas and the revs will drop between gears. It's a wierd hack, but it works.

K G I’m in total agreement. Should not require an aftermarket fix (tune) to eliminate rev-hang. Subaru need to find a way to correct this at the factory build, and still maintain emissions compliance. Deal breaker for me. And, I would comment in general, with so many new entries in the segment, the WRX is no longer a given as the go-to car.
@SmartMass5 жыл бұрын
@@christopherdouglas8471 We'll see if they botch it again with the next generation. I don't think Subaru has ever felt the WRX was worth investing in and I don't see that changing with the current crossover crazed climate. Minus the fuel economy hit, I think the STi is the car for me.
@whatiwant88985 жыл бұрын
The electric steering in the WRX isn't much worse than the steering in the STI. The STI is slightly more communicative, but the WRX rack isn't bad by any means and if you want it to feel closer to the STIs just spend $50 to get the metal steering rack bracket, which replaces the rubber one, and all the slack is removed. The rev hang is also only there because of emissions requirements and even the STI has it alongside the new Civic Si, Golf R, Focus RS, etc. They all have rev hang due to emissions requirements.
@SmartMass5 жыл бұрын
@@whatiwant8898 I'd recommend driving them back to back again re: the steering, but I'm happy to disagree. I've done the dampener swap and it unfortunately still feels like a video gaming wheel to me. In a similar vein I also prefer the rod vs cable shifter. Yes, the rev hang is there for a reason, I'm not sure why you're parroting the comment stated in the video; it detracts from the stock driving experience and it would be a quality of life benefit if an alternative was found without resorting to the aftermarket.

I bought a 2006 Hawkeye sti (stock) for 15k and my trans and head gaskets are fine. All you have to do is preventative maintenance and do upkeep to all your fluids, just like any other car. Edit: The 2006 sti came with a 6-speed and a shorter throw shifter also, a dccd which you can control where the heated seat buttons are
@charlesmajor64492 жыл бұрын
The 6 speed of the hawkeye sti is not the same then the 5 speed of the wrx. It's good for 700awhp

Bought a 2006 wrx with fbo and bigger turbo for $3800 cuz it had headgasket failures, $2000 later and I have a 400+hp wrx for under $6000, it’s possible to find them guys🤣

Why did this get posted again today and the comments from yesterday deleted? Anyways, great RCR opening. i was confused at first and thought I clicked on the wrong link. I said this yesterday and got a heart from you.

Data Storage apologies. Yesterday’s video seemed to break after the 7 minute mark. So we gave KZbin a day to get its act together and reuploaded. Enjoy!

RCR intro awesome! Having come from a 03 WRX to 17 STI premium . New WRX is way more refined and much nicer drive, far more stable. Be amazed how the STI can compete with a mid range Benz in terms of technology.

I own a Pearl Blue '02 WRX hatch, 202K miles. Still enjoy driving the car every time I get in the seat. I would buy the car again if I could, I paid 24K (US). Ordered the car with a short throw shifter and upgraded sound system. Trouble free for the first 12 years, some issues the past few. It's the price of admission keeping a car 17 years. Passion for cars doesn't have to stop, I'm 69. Also own a '91 NSX .Enjoyed your video

I just purchased an 07 STI limited with 107000 miles. Fairly new rebuild on the engine. Shifts ok and runs decent but I'm having the suspension worked over and hopefully getting it to pass smog in Ca. Purchased from Ohio. Looking forward to blasting around in the Sierra Nevada hills.

So I owned an '06 Impreza and currently drive a '16 WRX although not a special edition or anything. Everything they've said in this video is correct, especially the rev hang bit. Get a Cobb Accessport, it's well worth the money just for no rev hang and a smoother power curve (there's a bit of a dip at 4500 rpm or so). I probably only got 10 more HP out of my car but for those two reasons it was 100% worth it.

16:44 at this moment Alex talks with a british accent; a mistake many americans/canadians are moments away from making when they spend enough time conversing 1 on 1 with an englishman/woman without hearing someone else speak in an american/canadian accent 😂😂.

Cyrus Irunthispark I had a 2002 Nissan Sentra Spec 5 2.5 liter , 6spd and. LSD (Getrag) now I have a 2018 Ford Focus ST with no LSD and damn it makes a difference. It is THE reason that the Honda R is a giant killer . Now I have been thinking about just installing one , Quaif is a good brand (prior to this I was thinking about putting one in an old WRX ) So we are thinking along the same lines the question we both need to ask is would it be compatible with the electronic stability control . I am gonna see if I can learn that , if I find out I will let you know .If you find out if an LSD is compatible to your WRX/STI let me know too . These guys live in snow and I would not want to live in snow without a TRUE LSD .
