I'm from the UK, so the Bronco name doesn't come with any historical baggage or preconceived notions of what a Bronco should or shouldn't be. Judged purely as a car in its own right, I love this thing. It looks really cool, and for most of the people who will buy one, that's the most important thing. It may not have true off road credibility, but it looks like it does, and that will make owners feel like they have something a bit special as they drive to work, do the school run, and go for the groceries. And for that, I commend the Bronco Sport. It's a feel good car, which is the very best kind of car you can get.

I wanted to buy a Badlands, but Ford was such a pain to deal with. From finding one to test drive (only one dealer let me drive one), to offering $5k below market for my trade-in, to one dealer giving me the hard sell on an Escape as they didn't have a Bronco to sell. The actual Bronco Sport was kind of good looking, felt less like a crossover and had some go with that 2.0L. I ended up walking into a Toyota dealership, got a great trade-in price bought a RAV4 hybrid and no annoying sales pitch or having to speak to the manager before I could leave.

Having better awd and clearance on forest roads or out in the desert is nice, this is just like a Subaru. Not a true off roader, but perfectly adequate for camping and exploring a bit off the beaten path. This would get you to some pretty awesome campsites that a more car like crossover would struggle with. I'm all for more competition in the 'offroady crossover' spectrum. I don't need a truck or body on frame SUV with what I like to do, but man ground clearance and awd is a must.

I normally am depressed as can be driving a crossover. They don’t feel nice to drive (very front wheel drive) and have all the character of plain toast. However, I am currently renting one of these while my Mustang GT is getting serviced and I have to say, I am kinda a fan. I chalk it up to a few tangibles and design trickery. I absolutely agree it feels very AWD. So even tho it’s dog slow (compared yo my 10 speed performance pack 5.0 at least) it actually launches smoothly and doesn’t under steer in corners as bad as say my mothers Acura RDX. It makes it feel more substantial. Also the steering is more truck like. Combine that with the boxy styling and it tricks you into thinking you’re in a mini truck and not a crossover. Because of that, I am actually surprised how much I like this faux bronco. Probably the only crossover I’ve drive that I actually enjoy driving (because between AWD, steering and design it makes me feel like I am in a truck)

There is no way in hell you can get a badlands for 32k American I got one with only options were premium package for like $2200 iirc and the falken atw3s for like $555 and mine was 43500 but I did have to pay $3300 in tax cuz I didn't have a trade in. Got it 7/15/22 and that was with no markup but full MSRP cuz dealers are dicks. I thi k you mean the base model can be had for a starting price of $32,000. I do love mine to death got 4300 miles already but wish they had put the 2.0 in allodels like they were initially saying I can't believe any one makes. 3 cylinder I drove one and at idle it looked like it was gonna shake it self apart I would say they will definitely need motor mounts way too soon. The AWD system is great and the Badlands system is amazing I have a full size on order but I'll probably just keep my sport cuz it does all the off-roading I need if not more and I get 23-27 mpg average with about 70% highway and it's plenty fast and. Totally comfortable doing 90 mph and do you really need more in a CUV and I thi k it's drives great for it's ability and the hood makes it feel like a real truck and the seats are great and if you get the leather it's so nice just wish I could get cooled seats no complaints but the engine bay sucks terribly for working on. Took me 3 hours to get the I take off to do a catch can. And it's not a true locker but it's just about as good. It's not using the brakes the lower models do that the Badlands uses a twin disk clutch that allows just a bit of slippage in the most rugged off-roading . Just hope they last since this is the first car to use them so far.

In response to James his comment: Creating a mini G-wagon that looks like a G-wagon but is cheaper, would probably destroy the current G-wagon s reputation. After people buying the cheaper option, after some time the G-wagon would look so exclusive and insane as it now does, and what I think that makes the unique selling point for it. And then after some time people would realize that there is no rational reason to buy a G-wagon and sales would implode.

i was thinking with the slanted window thing on the back kinda like a 05 chevy blazer .

Not when you see it in person. It's more like the Ford equivalent of the Jeep Renegade. It looks to be the same size as a rav4 in person, it's actually a pretty small SUV.

I’ve had three Bronco IIs and this is fantastic. Thanks for the review! Glad to see Ford bring back the smaller Bronco for those of us who don’t want/need the full sized version.

I think this is the best subcompact SUV for sale today. In the world of Toyota C-HRs, this is refreshing.

Am I the only one that is old enough to remember the bronco 2? It’s was a smaller version on the full size bronco. My step father had one. It was unstoppable in the bush. I want a bronco sport.

Well I was excited to see this head to head with a Cherokee trailhawk but that fake “locked axle” may have just forfeited it. It’s ridiculous that it has a axle lock button. It does have pretty decent articulation for IRS.
@GHinWI3 жыл бұрын
They can’t put a locking axle in a car like this...people would be locking it on pavement and blowing up differentials. They’d be pissed at ford even though it was their own fault.
@JonBecker813 жыл бұрын
@@GHinWI my jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is a crossover and has an actual locking rear diff. It is a very similar set up to this. Front wheel drive base, unibody, Indy front and rear suspension . You can’t lock the rear diff unless it’s in 4wd low. That’s another difference between the jeep and bronco sport. It has a transfer case with an actual low gear ratio.
@willdembik6883 жыл бұрын
IMO, the boxiness bodystyle of this Bronco looks alot sharper then any of FCAs smaller SUVs (Cherokee). Also looks like approach and departure angle in this lil bronco would also be better but would be definitely a fun comparison to watch.
@JonBecker813 жыл бұрын
@@willdembik688 the badlands has .1 inches more ground clearance than the TH. .5 degree more approach. The TH has 2.8 degrees more break over angle. The badlands has .9 degrees more departure angle than the TH. So they are pretty close.

I say put em side by side on either Throttlehouse or TFL. I'm sure that since they are rivals it'll be done several times. Until then (and even after), I'll stick with my 🌮 for dependabilty..
Really reminds me of the first gen Escape.. Boxy and cute.

With the Bronco Sport, Ford took over where Subaru left off with the Forester in 2008. Most crossovers, including Jeeps and the RAV4, look like suppositories, the Bronco Sport solves that.

@Luke Meier Your arrogance is in your assumptions. Before, this used to be true. Fords quality has improved. F-150s are the most sold car in America. This car is perfect for someone that wants to get to where they're going without any problems, this will certainly do it. Has similar features to the 2021 4Runner TRD Offroad to get you up snowy, muddy, and sandy terrain. What is your point? lol
