We had the same saying about certain mid-90s Mazda model range in our Mazda club. One day, when a convoy of cars was travelling for a yearly club meeting, I drove behind a guy who gave up fighting his oil-burning Mazda and accepted that it'll always burn engine oil and smoke blue as he drives. But on the way, it stopped smoking so we called him and told him "Buddy, your Mazda stopped smoking!" He replied with a short "FUCK!", immediately pulled over, put on hazard lights and then took a can of oil from his trunk and started refilling the oil. Yup, you guessed it, he ran out of engine oil along the way xD
