Before actual recording: So, where do you want to put your guitar solo on this song? Herman: yes
@Ferretclaw4449 жыл бұрын
I don't understand the people criticizing him so much here. Yeah, he made a few mistakes, but overall he was pretty close to the original. Plus he was standing and jumping around, bouncing his guitar, playing with his tongue and all that- he wasn't just sitting down and completely giving it his utmost concentration. It was an actual performance, he wasn't just playing it. Plus he looked happy. And remember that there are 2 guitarists in dragon force, Sam harmonizes and plays the other solo parts. Of course Herman can't play everything.

He's a great guitarist. There was just so much studio magic done on the recording that it would be impossible for him to pull it off live. People nearly expect inhuman playing from him because that's what was done in the video (and even that was sped up in post). I suppose a bitta hate will come with that, but he plays with good passion and seems like a good dude all the same.
@rustyshackleford47439 жыл бұрын
Herman's the shit. I don't care if someone makes a cover of this song nailing every note while they're sitting down all tensed up. I'd rather see Herman play is standing up completely relaxed, smiling, messing with his hair while he's playing, doing his tricks. He's so much more into it and it still sounds better!
@TrSoundScape9 жыл бұрын
Iknow right? I hate the players nowadays that have no soul and sit super tensed. Look at any player like herman or the old guys like joe perry. Super loose and it just flows. I think he was trying to break a string, in a interview he said that he broke a string while recording the song and they kept that take. So when he plays lives he always kicks/knees he’s guitar to try and recreate it. May be wrong but that’s what it looked like.
@cheeseisjar30584 жыл бұрын

As a guitar player for over 12 years, I can definitely appreciate how great they are at playing. With that being said, when I saw them live, as well as in this video, they tend to "dumb down" the music when they play it. As a guitar player of many years and a listener of both dragonforce and a myriad of different bands and genres I can say this as for dragonforce. I enjoy their music to its fullest extent but I will admit that Herman Li and Sam Totman aren't the be all end all of great guitar players. I believe in pure technical skill every genre has their Slash's and their B.B Kings but sometimes pure technical skill isn't what makes a good song. There are large amounts of well known musicians who have little in the way of technical mastery of their instruments but are successful anyway because some how the music sounds good. In conclusion you can appreciate the musicians for what they are or you can further explore and find something you like. That's the wonderful thing about the musical arts, there is always something else to listen to and enjoy.

He's a good guitarist. No matter what he do. He can feel the music and have fun with it.

I haven't heard DragonForce in many many many many many years... 6:30 actually, no kidding, almost made me lose bladder control and I honestly almost pissed myself. I had to pause, go wee, come back and finish the clip. ...Again; no kidding.

part of performing is also to entertain the audience and be a showman, not to only recreate notes flawlessly, whats the point of playing perfect if u aint having fun?

Hermans a great guitar player. He's just not as good as people expect him to be after hearing through the fire and flames. Plus all of his antics would make it harder to play a song perfectly. If he was just sitting on a stool concentrating, he would've done a much better job, but that's not the kind of player he is...

He has become a true artist. He has come to a point where he is satisfied with what he creates, but where others believe he could become better. Most people don't meet their own standards and everyone around them says that they're already great and shouldn't push themselves too hard. The best artists are the ones who can enjoy what they create instead of strive to outdo it next time.

+Robert Reynolds .... thats the thing with studio/live versions of most songs tho. you can't recreate rock/metal stuff live that easily. lol. what is this BS with "others believe he could become better"? he *can* become better, cos there are videos of people doing this song standing up and performing better than him. granted he only had one chance to do it in this video, he could've done so many other things better. at least tune the guitar right. don't get me wrong, he's an awesome guitarist, better than me, and a great composer too, cool harmonics in the song he played in this video. but the way you say he has become a "true artist" seems like a way to sugarcoat the fact that he couldn't play close to what he showed in the music video. imo the best artists are the one that play relatively the same, live or not. and of course compose well. no relation to what people think of them.

+maoribrotha53 Sometimes, you can only get a specific sound out of something by holding it by the tremolo arm and dropping it on your knee. That's what he does, he fucks around with his guitar to make awesome sounds, and then incorporate them into music. +Robert Reynolds Actually, the best artists both enjoy what they create *and* strive to outdo it. They want to see what else they can do. That's what Picasso was like. app4mind.com/picassos-damn-fine-words/

+maoribrotha53 Exactly the only reason I watch solos live in the first place is for the entertaiment value, if I want to listen to it perfectly I can just listen to the record.
