Thanks! Yes, Poprad is lovely. And snow... well... I'm off to visit my daughter in the French Alps next week, so there's probably more snow coming soon! She's going to get me snowboarding too. 🏂

I think I prefer it hot and sunny in general too, but the Tatras look so amazing in the snow, I was happy to wear a hat and coat and get out there!

Just found your delightful channel yesterday and subscribed. That snowy journey was magical, and your photography really draws one in. Perhaps that was a granny rugby team getting on the train :D

Thank you so much for the kind words. I had a great time making the journey and the video, so I'm so pleased you enjoyed watching it. Haha yes! Maybe the Slovakian national over 65s women's rugby! If I ever own a nightclub, I'm putting them on the door...

Enjoyed the video. I haven't said before but I also enjoy the intro sequence you now employ. I don't always share your enthusiasms-- apart from trains and beer --- but its good to hear you express them. Its one of the things that sets your videos apart. Personally I am not so keen on snow and trees. Also a great glimpse of Slovakian life and, I agree with you about the station architecture.
@JohnnyHooverTravels Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching the snow and trees regardless. Your dedication has been noted 😆 Seriously though, thank you as ever not just for kind words but some very helpful feedback. Good news! Next week I'm back on the ECML with no snow and only a few trees here and there. Bad news! I leave tomorrow to visit my daughter in the French Alps... ...although there's a fair chance there won't be any trains running...

Another great memory, but oh, how so much has changed with the rolling stock in 28 years. I found this really interesting and very few reviews of this lovely compact network venture all the way to Tatranska Lomnica. Thanks.

My absolute pleasure. I had a wicked day out in the snow. I'd be pretty keen to see it all again in the summer too! Those new trains are really nice and a big improvement on the older ones that are still in service. I'm guessing the ones you rode were an even older generation. Thanks again for watching and commenting. I have a couple more trips from Slovakia that I've not yet edited up. So maybe those will strike a chord with you too!

I was reading about Slovakia's Modernist architecture as I stumbled upon Poprad-Tatra station, and then I found your video. Lovely showcase of the railway, and its nice to see you also appreciate the artistic details in the interiors. The book I am reading had some older photos of the station pre-renovation, and unfortunately quite a bit of the station's original ceiling designs and exterior finishes had been lost during the works, but the new station seems to provide better service too!

1:34 Even Slovaks still do confuse the two - that's logo of ŽSR, the infrastructure manager. ZSSK, the railway company, has simpler stylised logo as seen at 2:43. And ZSSK's corporate colour is orange, despite trains being painted red.

Thank you for pointing that out. Yes, that was a daft mistake. I should have known as it is the same in the Czech republic, where I've visited many times before. Doh! thanks very much for watching and correcting my error. Much appreciated 👍

Enjoyed the video.I just discovered the chanel. Good work! I have one question: Do you know, there are some tickets for one week? On trains? I can t find anything about it! Thanks!
@JohnnyHooverTravels Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, the Tatra railway has a selection of tickets that cover different numbers of days. They are available at all staffed ticket offices on the route and probably from the on-train staff.
@janlehen2279 Жыл бұрын
There is no staff onboard, apart from the driver. You can buy the 4 euro day ticket from the driver while the train is stopped, if everything else fails. There are random inspections with 50 euro fine if you don't have a valid ticket.

Hi, thanks for the nice video! I am going there in January 2024, it's my FIRST winter travel, so I am a little bit nervous lol... I have a question: what time do u recommend to start going out and going around like what u did in the video, and what time should I get ready to go back to Poprad before it is too dark?
@JohnnyHooverTravels Жыл бұрын
I would say to get out as soon as it is light. All those people on the trains arrive during the morning. So if I had the time again I would get out of Poprad just as soon as I can. As you saw from the video it gets very busy on those little trains! I wouldn't worry about it getting dark. The trains run until pretty late, so one thing to do would be to enjoy the sunset up in the Tatras (but close to the railway!) and then catch a train back down to Poprad a little after all the day trippers have left. Most of the decent-sized towns have places to eat and drink as they are ski destinations in their own right. Hope that helps. Thank you so much for watching 👍
