The “he just ate” remark that Ron says to Hermione is in reference to Harry, not the ghoul. Hermione was asking Ron to tell Harry the details of the ghoul’s transformation to resemble Ron. Ron doesn’t want to tell Harry and gross him out because Harry just ate. That being said, it really wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if the Weasleys fed the ghoul lol

30 bones in the arm does count the hand. There are three in the arm itself, 8 in the wrist, and 19 in the hand. If you include the shoulder girdle that attaches the arm to the rest of the body, we are up to 32 bones that Lockhart removed.

From the quaffle wiki: Shortly after, the witch Daisy Pennifold came up with the idea of enchanting the Quaffle so that it dropped to the ground slower than normal. Chasers were complaining of having to dive to the ground to retrieve a dropped ball, and the new enchantment gave the Chasers time to retrieve the ball while still in the air.

I’ve been working on this theory all week but here goes. The reason that no one connects the now attacks with the attacks from 50 years ago is because Myrtle was the only victim. We never explicitly hear that anyone was petrified the first time. We only learn that The Chamber has been open before from Draco. Draco learns this from Lucius. Lucius learns this from Voldy. We also know that Riddle couldn’t take credit for the attacks in 1942, so that could mean it was never referred to as “Slytherin’s Monster” or referred to as “The Chamber of Secrets.” Hence why Binns says that it is legend, no one thinks it’s a basilisk since there is no similarity between the attacks, and they just assume Hagrid because monsters. Thoughts?
@raevalentine9002
@raevalentine9002 6 ай бұрын
I think this theory works, because back then, Riddle was doing the attacks In person (via basilisk command)... he wouldn't have wanted to petrify anyone, and leave 'evidence'. The reason students are being petrified now, are because they were forewarned (messages on the wall, Ms. Norris being a cat, Nick being a ghost, also being attacked via proxy (Ginny) So there were more chances for error and Riddle was trying to catch Harry's attention so he was being more flashy and less death-y to start

@@raevalentine9002 The reason students are being petrified now is because no one looked directly into the basilisk's eyes. Mrs. Norris was petrified because she saw the basilisk's reflection in the water that was on the floor, not because she's a cat. The messages on the wall are intended to both spread fear, and to get the muggle-borns to leave the school. It seems like Myrtle was killed essentially because otherwise she would have known where the Chamber of Secrets was.

I have a pretty simple theory as to why Dumbledore took the camera melting as evidence of the chamber of Secrets being opened again. As the Carlin bros have pointed out previously, the signs that the monster was a basilisk feel very obvious in hindsight. So my guess is Dumbledore actually suspected all along that Slytherin’s monster was a basilisk, he just never voiced it to or around the golden trio. Knowing what the monster is doesn’t necessarily make it easier to find the chamber though, so that’s why he still couldn’t stop it. So when he saw the camera melted, it confirmed the theory he already had which is that petrification had to do with vision (as opposed to a spell or potion or something). This confirmed it to be a basilisk for Dumbledore, which in turn confirmed that it really is Slytherin’s monster making the attacks, which confirmed that the Chamber of Secrets really is open again.
@IdaSantti

I agree, it is too out of character for Dumbledore to have NO IDEA, what the monster is. Not finding the Chamber is okay, but having no idea what is in it, considering everything he knows about everything. No, just no

Giving grapes in the uk is a given when someone is in hospital, often along with lucazade 🤣🤣 Grapes used to be a rarity in the uk, so a luxury. It could be a sign of status and concern for the person in hospital. Also, in the 19th century, there was a belief that grapes had the power to cleanse and purify the body, especially the blood. They believed that the natural sugars and vitamins could boost the immune system and help the healing process. In Victorian Britain, it was believed that after a medical issue, people needed a period of “convalescence” in which they ate only light, easily digestable food. Grapes were considered ideal for this, as they were sweet, easy on the stomach, and full of water (thereby aiding in hydration). As the Colin is British and a muggle-born, it totally makes sense to us British muggles that Colin brings Harry some grapes! Loved your story for this though!! ❤️

I think many people in the audience noticed something's wrong, surely Ron and Hermione did (I believe they've had deja vu from Harry's first match and immediately started to look for the culprit, but never found one). I think there had to be strong rule for teachers to not interfere magically during matches, because it could be seen as helping one of the team to win (and Dumbledore was looking at Snape and McGonagall reminding that rule before every single match 😂). Star is representing Sirius, moon - Remus, and Harry between them looks like James. And the shadow hand is foreshadowing of Peter's future silver arm 😄 It's Marauders' art!

What I find most interesting about reenacting Lockhart's books is that these are things that did happen, they just didn't happen to Lockhart. His whole claim to fame is based on stealing these stories from other wizards, getting all the details from them, and then wiping their memories. So the story of how the werewolf was dealt with was true, it was just another wizard that did it.

If you can, I would suggest playing the quidditch game on the PS2. I don’t remember in actual lore how it goes, but in the game after a score happens, your keeper throws the quaffle to your chasers and you begin to rush the goals on the other side.

It was my headcanon that Madam Hooch must teach Flying to the first years all year long, but Harry was exempt. And I kind liked the idea that she was a player or even a captain of the Holyhead Harpies or some other team, and that was her full time job. She just helped out at Hogwarts every now and then. Also, as for Quidditch, the quaffle does fall slowly, it has I think a Vertical Slowing Charm or something, and there is only one Chaser allowed in the scoring area at a time specifically to prevent them double-teaming the Keeper.

I have a theory about why the bludger stopped attacking during the timeout but not at the end! If dobby saw them taking a timeout, he may have thought harry was stopping the game to quit/leave school. And gave him a chance to do so. Then the game continues and by the end it becomes clear to dobby that there is no chance harry will quit without injury and so even though the game is over, he doesnt back off this time. Committed, at that point, to getting harry to leave no matter what. Thanks for all the awesome work you do, absolutely love this podcast! Ps. My wife, daughter and i read each chapter together before we listen to the corresponding episode!

When it comes to the professional Quidditch teams, I think the big difference is that quidditch is a lot more like auto racing than something like baseball or soccer, where you're participating in the game is extremely aged dependent. Likely many of these professional quidditch players are much older than your standard muggle athlete because they are mostly just writing on a broom and not exerting themselves quite as proficiently as other sports. So the fact that Oliver wood is only on the reserve team likely means that the keeper of Puddlemere United is much more experience than he is.

Dumbledore wasn't out for hot Choco, he was looking for the one who attacked Mrs. Norris. When he finds Creevey he uses the Homenum Revelio spell. Since the spell does not detect humans in the vicinity, Dumbledore assumes that the one attacking people is the monster in the Chamber of Secrets and not any human.

Lacewings are native to the Pacific Northwest USA, like Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. That explains why I haven't known about them (in Kentucky). It also explains why they are rare in Britain, thus only in Snape's stores. And boomslangs being in Africa make them rare in Britain.

A thought that I've just had is that it's possible the British quidditch league, much like many European football leagues, also pull international players for their squads. Lots of players from Latin America and Africa have played in the various European football leagues.

Question: I wonder, if Slytherin thought, his heir would be a girl, and thus put the entrance to the chamber in the girls toilett OR if, back then, only boys were allowed in Hogwards (because education for girls wasn't a thing) and ALL toiletts were boys toiletts. Only when girls started to go to school in Hogwards, they made some of the toiletts for girls and the one with the entry to the Chamber HAPPEND to be one of them, making it even harder for male heirs to find it. OR Slytherin thought, girls would NEVER come looking for the entrance in the boys toiletts, boys on the otherhand would look in the girls toiletts. What do you think?

I like where Your head is at, EXCEPT that Helga & Rowena were a part of the founding. We know from Helena that Rowena was a STRONG independent women & Helga said she'd "reach the rest & treat them all the same" so I DOUBT that either of them were down with excluding girls. I'm more inclined to believe that the bathroom didn't start out a girl's bathroom, just became one over time. It might've even been Slytherin's personal bathroom and after he left it was assigned to the girls

Maybe the slytherin family had more females than males so he assumed there is a higher possiblity he will have a female heir than a male one granted I would question how much did Salazar actuly plan this out becoes this plan gives me a major man in his late 70s suffering from his old age and possible from depression becoes of the lost his family members and betrayel by his closes friends vibes than actual planning

****HARRY COULD HAVE SUMMONED KREACHER TO THE FOREST****AND CHAPTER 10 PROVES IT!!!**** Would love to know what you guys think! At the end of the Rogue Bludger, Harry grabs on to Dobby’s wrist. Dobby Disapparates and Harry is left clenching thin air..Fast forward to book 7, Chapter 14..Harry and Hermione decide not to summon Kreacher because they didn’t want to risk someone coming with him as he Disapparated. Yaxley was just able to do this by grabbing onto Hermione’s sleeve. Is this another example of wizards overlooking how powerful elfs are? What if Harry summoned Kreacher? I think he could have been helpful.. but also a potential liability. Thank you both for putting the excitement of Harry Potter into everyone’s life. I’ve been watching for years and I feel you two are just as important to Harry Potter as Jim Dale! See you in another life brother!

My theory is the reason the staff under dumbledore is so bizarre is he understands how life works, you only have one match to win in a game because in life you only get one chance. Knowledge is valuable and should be hard to obtain.

Once again you talk about Lockharts stuff never happening, but once again the whole point is that it did happen, just not to him. That's why it's still a good idea to read his books for DADA even if he himself is a pretty useless wizard and subsequently teacher. Everything in his books must be so carefully written to be truthful, but with the main character swapped, or it would be easy for someone with any authority on the subject to disprove him and make him loose all his fame and place his books in the fiction section. As for the werewolf curing episode they talk about here, it's most likely just an unfortunate victim of not planning far enough ahead. J.K. had decided how much werewolves would play into the rest of the story or that it would be a plot point that it's incurable. It's even inconsistent in the later books. In book 3 Lupin says that when he was bitten his parents "tried everything, but in those days there was no cure", implying that in modern times there is a cure, or at least something you can do if you get treatment soon enough after being bitten, but in book 5 at St. Mungos Mr. Weasley says there is no cure for the guy in the same ward as him that has been werewolf bitten, and that must have been right after being attacked and at the top wizarding medical institution in Britain.

@@siomhagormley I understand what you mean, and that is probably the intended interpretation, but the way I always read it when I was younger was that there was a real cure discovered, but it was too late for Lupin, but then there is ALSO the potion, that helps those who already have it permanent. Either way I still think Lockharts example just wasn't thought through by the author al the way. She probably intended for it to be a true cure spell before she decided she needed it to be incurable for the marauder story to happen at all.

In Prisoner of Azkaban, Snape is the "the hero who delivered them from the monthly terror of werewolf attacks" except for that one night. Lockhart says he'll copies, plural, of Magical Me to the one person who writes the best poem and so does he expect the winner to keep one copy and give the others to friends? LOL. Lockhart as Seeker--he would choose the most prestigious position on the team. Oliver Wood--"better people on our brooms." Madame Pomfrey doesn't appreciate Lockhart's efforts to deal with Harry's broken arm. Dobby's info about clothes will prove useful. Props to Harry for trying to keep Dobby from punishing himself.

51:51, I find it hilarious that J is talking about how many bones are in an arm, and the fact that he looked it up but thinks that the hand bones are extra. Like Ben said, good thing they aren't doctors, since J thinks humans have 30 bones just in their shoulder to wrist area (instead of, like, 3)! XD
