Romans had pipes 2000+ years ago. And drainage pipes can be big even 2000 years ago. So the castle could have been built with drainage that basilisk could use to get around. The Romans also had communal toilets with drained into draining channels, which could of been upgraded when more modern toilets were made.

As far as the the dates concerning Hogwarts founding not being known, that is extremely common for the medieval era. They had records back in the day, but centuries upon centuries of having those records being attacked by the elements, neglect and rodents a lot of times sponge the precise dates from history. All it takes is a fire in the records room 700 years ago to make it so that you only know that a historical figure was born in the town but not what day the figure was born on other than General decade. That sort of thing is very common in Europe and Asia. They just sort of have to Ballpark a lot of historical dates.

The difference between Snape and Flitwick in my opinion is that Flitwick is Dueling Champion in the Wizarding Sport where there are rules and regulations meanwhile Snape would be battle tested as he fought in the First Wizarding War admittedly most of that time he was in combat on the side of the Death Eaters as a loyal follower of the Dark Lord but still doesn’t take away from the fact his skill comes from live combat. Come to think of it do we know if Flitwick fought in the first Wizarding War?

So castles always had a "privy", a room/area that allowed for human waste to be brought out of the castle and disposed of, usually by gravity, so the basilisk could have always used this drainage system. The invention of Indoor Plumbing wasn't about drainage, but pumping water against gravity into the building, to then be fed into the already established drainage, however, this could be done earlier via an aqueduct system, or a cistern on a roof using rainwater collection. These are of course non-magical methods, but since we know that wizards can manipulate water, it is very possible that they developed "magic indoor plumbing" centuries before Muggles made their invention. Ginny is definitely not going to Percy to tell him she's having nightmares, but he is Prefect and the older Gryffindor girls, who are witnessing Ginny's troubled sleep. would definitely feel compelled to tell the Prefect that his baby sister is having nightmares.

In all of book one, Harry never uses a spell 'onscreen', nor does he in the first half of book two. The first time he uses a spell 'onscreen' is in this chapter, and it is immediately after learning Expelliarmus. He was THIS CLOSE to having his first spell be his signature spell. But instead, it is the tickling curse. *facepalm* Then again, Never tickle a sleeping dragon, but Do tickle a dueling Draco. Kind of fun.

As for the discussion of whether or not Dumbledore has any suspicions to Harry being a parselmouth or not, I believe this is what’s happening when he reads Harry’s mind at the end of the death day party, in Lockharts office. To elaborate, I think he can read Harry’s experience of hearing a voice nobody else could hear, and after some consideration and the circumstances being what they are, he wants to test his hypothesis.
@AustynSN7 ай бұрын
Thoughts while listening... To Percy's specific relief of that statement, he's not in _another_ girl's bathroom, he's in the same one as before. I like the idea that the movies got it wrong and the basilisk actually isn't that big. Hence why it fits through the plumbing. As to the concept of wizards just disappearing their feces, I figure they switched to plumbing because all the first and maybe even second years had problems mastering the spell to make it disappear. Given his complete lack of confidence, I can see Neville falling for some pretty scammy stuff. I don't remember if he buys stuff for helping him OWLs in his fifth year, but if it occurs before he joins the DA, it would make a lot of sense. Also And about being almost a squib, there really do seem to be various degrees of magical capability. There are those like Neville who are so low initially that it doesn't even show up until they're 9 or 10, maybe even older. Rowling even stated that some wizards don't show their power until later in life. (Part of the plot to "Hogwarts: Legacy" as I understand.) Additionally, given their ability to see dementors, squibs must have at least a tiny bit of magical ability. Sometimes, the biggest sadness about Snape dying at the end of the series for me is that that there could never be a point where Harry an adult and Snape got to sit down and actually talk about the crap Harry pulled as a student. I'm sure if the two of them mellowed out in their hatred of each other, and Snape could no longer expel Harry, they might have a laugh about it. Well maybe not, but we can imagine. As far as the dueling club being only for second years, perhaps the note was enchanted so that every every year saw the meeting time and place for their group. It would also make sense if they had split it up so that other teachers (perhaps Flitwick being one of them) were holding dueling clubs at other times and/or places. Nothing to suggest this idea in the actual book, just something that occurred to me. I'm now pondering how hilarious it would have been if rictusempra had been Harry's signature spell against Voldemort instead of expelliarmus. The idea that Snape became an animagus out of spite against James is a cool idea, but falls apart on one factor. You know he would have reported James as an unregistered animagus to the ministry of magic, and then all three of them would have been known animagi instead of unregistered. It occurs to me that parcel tongue is similar to Aquaman's power. It not only lets you communicate with the animal, (sea life for Aquaman, snakes for parselmouths), but they have to obey the commands as well. Wonder which power would be stronger with sea serpents. The problem I see with Harry using steaks as spies would be that if any of them are caught and Voldemort is around, then he could easily turn the snakes against Harry. The idea of the basilisk having poor eyesight actually makes sense given that snakes are almost blind and use smell, often supplemented by feeling everything via their tongue as their primary sense. As far as the comments about how dark Voldemort was as a child, just asked Myrtle.

@trinkab7 ай бұрын
Snape acting like a real teacher... first: he was obviously going to test that swelling potion on the students anyway, so he had the potion ready. Also the students who got splashed were likely mostly Slytherins.as it was coming out of a Slytherin cauldron. Snape is helping the dueling club because Dumbledore wants him to be there to keep the students safe. Lockheart is obviously incompetent when it comes to healing and counter-curses (see the rubber arm incident). And a dueling club is designed to make students to curse/charm each other, a recipe for disaster without a competent wizard around.

Living in Colorado, it makes a lot of sense. But it’s not a sense of heat, but refers to the intensity, how bright it is. As for Quidditch and House points I always thought the difference of score, in the game, was added to the Cup points. As an example, 180-160, the winning team received 20 points towards the House Cup.

I don't get Ben's argument with the Quidditch points. It's extremely obvious that sentence means winning the game awarded the house 50 points and that's how the system works. The reason Percy tells Harry he won Gryffindor 50 points is because Harry caught the snitch, they often say that Harry won them the match because he's the seeker and getting them those 150 points.

Been a bit since I last read it, but wasn't Justin attacked specifically BECAUSE of what happened at the dueling club? Ginny told Tom, and Tom was like, "Ooh, awesome, okay. Hey guys love your show I'm listening from south Africa. Have you heard the theory that says that in the cave was all the dead bodies (niferi) and that's what terrified the boys in the orphanage.

Theory: The Three Broomsticks are a play on words for drinks. There are 3 positions in quidditch called chasers. A chaser is a drink of a different kind taken immediately after a stronger or weaker one. So the Three Broomsticks is meant to be the 3 Chasers or 3 drinks.

49:19 I believe it’s also the spell Ron goes to use in the ministry, to stop the rain in a person’s office.

You are aware we don't know when the City of London was founded right? When you go to look it up it listed "In time immemorial" which basically means we only know it founded before we have written records of it.

I would ask how stupid is Hermione because if she found out it was a basilisk why not find a spell that could summon a rooster

I REALLY want these guys to do a series on their Idea for a Founders series. I understand they PROBABLY don't want too much of their Idea out there so Warner Bros can't gank their plans & make money off it, BUT I'm SO fascinated by their Idea for a Founders series and their excitement makes me excited for it

This sort of thing with the lockheart misquote happens so much I can think of Darth Vader - Luke I am your father Gandalf - You Shall Not Pass! (you cannot pass! In the book)

5:49 The winter sun is so oppressive. It makes you sweat in your heavy coat. But you can’t take it off or you’ll freeze. “Blazing winter sun” is very accurate.
