In my mind the clock would point to “Lost” if it had nothing else to point at, if you aren’t traveling, at work, home, school, etc, then you must be lost. Since the clock can’t place you at one of those then it places you as “Lost.” At least that’s how I see it. I also think the clock is based off circumstance and not the subjects feelings, personally. Somehow the clock knows you are at work or school or wherever. It’s probably through some powerful enchantment that’s linked to each of the Weasleys.

i think about the mr weasleys dead situation theres 2 selutions. 1. he is dead when they find him and isnt brought to the hospital. this means the weasleys never get to grimbounds place and black doesnt tell the house elf to get away (so he never talked to the malfoy/le strange). black is stays alive and harry might find out about the phophecy earlier with big V still regarded by the ministry as dead 2. hes not dead when they found him they still go to grimbound place the house elf still gets send away. this is the 1 ur talking about and this is all asuming mrs weasley doesnt leave the order or anything like tht if her husband dies.

About the pub ‘the Hanged man’, there actually is a pub in Edinburgh (where the books were written) called the Hangman’s pub. It located on the Grassmarket, a square where hangings would take place a few hundred years ago. The pubs on this square all have names referring to this, such as ‘The Last Drop’, so the Hanged Man in HP could also be inspired by these pubs, the Hangman’s pub in particular.

Percy being on the right side could make the battle of the seven Potter's never happen because Percy working at the ministry would be able to override Pius Thickness closing the Dursleys house to apperation through the Minister. You seem to find it hard to believe that there would be as much anti-muggle sentiment in the general wizarding population as this chapter portrays. I find it upsetting, too, but in the light of October 7, 2023, I am sadly unsurprised. I feel like you guys have missed the point that the Wronski Feint is a specific kind of feint where you try to get the other seeker to plow into the ground in a particularly dangerous way. I don’t think Winky would have been compelled to answer Amos truthfully even if he had worded his question differently. We’re explicitly told in the next book that Kreacher could freely lie about Sirius’s whereabouts because Harry wasn’t his master, so presumably, Winky would only have to answer Mr Crouch truthfully. Also, Cedric’s mum isn’t dead, we see her at the end of the book when she and Amos come to ask Harry how Cedric died.

Your conversation about the clock reminded me, there’s a flaw in Ron’s cover in DH. Wouldn’t the clock always say “traveling” for him? So if Death Eaters came looking for him and they noticed the clock, they would know the ghoul wasn’t him and that “traveling” probably did mean he was on the run with Harry.
