As someone who’s in a poly relationship, I agree. Poly relationships are literally just monogamous relationships… but with more people. But people like these who fetishize the idea of polyamory are super annoying bc they cause people to think this is what it’s like all the time, which is actively harmful for us! People don’t see our relationships as real, they see them as a “kink” and non-genuine when it is so much more than that! Also the “fighting over each other” cliche is so annoying because literally the core of polyamory is sharing. Polyamory, like any relationship, should be built on trust and not jealousy. Healthy poly relationships don’t fight over each other like they’re some sort of shitty young adult novel love triangle. They’re romanticizing toxic relationship dynamics and causing normalization of that idea being the norm and it’s just so ugh.

Decent non monogamy doesn't go viral though because it isn't problematic. It's sad because it also spreads so much toxic stuff to younger people. I was in quite a few poly relationships where the others just thought poly means no rules and you can f who ever you want. For example my 2 exes when they met started doing stuff behind my back even though we had the clear rule of no triangle stuff. Hurt like hell because of all the lying etc. And specifically my male ex made it a habit of trying to hit on my friends which was a no go for me. He always said "but we are open and I'm allowed to do what i want" but once i did something with someone else (within the set boundaries) he wanted to be monogamous. He was abusive in many ways but he was one of many that use poly or open relationships as an excuse to do what ever he wants, whether it hurts you or not

The same was clarified to my other partner at the time but they both had no regard for me in many ways😅 broke it off with her quite quickley and had a shitshow with him sadly
