Throwback: Microsoft KIN Two | Pocketnow

Remember the Microsoft KIN TWO on Verizon? It had a 3.4" HVGA display, a 600MHz CPU with 256MB of RAM, 8GB of memory with no expandable storage. Microsoft killed KIN due to lackluster sales in the summer of 2010, just a few months after its release. Since then, Microsoft has been rallying its efforts around Windows Phone 7.

I had it, and loved it! Now I have a wp8 phone, and I love the Microsoft ecosystem.

I use a Kin 1 and my wife has the Kin 2. I wanted a phone to just text, call, take some pictures. We had flip phones. Not great for texting. The Kin qwerty board was so much faster. I wish the Support was available from Microsoft. The pain right now is taking pics and the only way to get them off the phone in quantity is emailing. The platform for texting is slightly problematic. The bottom line of text is right next to the 'send' bar at the bottom. The touch screen to edit is not accurate,but ok. I have sent text before I am done editing. Frustrating, but still far better having a qwerty board to use with the touch screen. Overall, for me and my wife, all the other 'smart' phone stuff we don't need. Maybe later. The size of the Kin 1 is perfect for me. People who see it think it is so cool because of its size and what it can basically do. Many people like simple phones and a qwerty board to text from..Microsoft should re-introduce it, keep size for Kin 1 and Kin 2 the same, but with current simple electronics, but more power for internet and keep the CLOUD and NO DATA PLAN active.

i have a kin twom the same thing just without the loop and it works really well one of the best phones ive ever had until the backlight had recently burnt out and i cant see it unless light is shining directly onto it

I still use the kin. I had Kin one for about a year until it recently broke. And although verizon stopped selling Kin I just bought a kin Two off from ebay because as a simple basic phone - its fantastic for me.

i actually still have mine. it has been updated to cut out most of the kin features like kin studio, the loop, and so on. i use it when data package isnt avalibale. still works like a pro! and of course, the music integration was the best feaature

The kin TWOm which is the same as this you just don't need a data plan, was a fantastic feature phone and the only one I can think of that had Wi-Fi and one of the best music players in the business

Even though it was a failure, Microsoft changed how we socialize with our phones. What's interesting is that Microsoft didn't make a kin studio like service for Windows Phone and Windows.

@Chrsto27 She no longer has it, and I think she would charge it using the wall plug. I mistakenly said no cord forgetting that the cord probably had a usb on it but hey only saw the phone and not the stuff with it cause if I did I might have figured it out.

This is the best phone you can have if you can't afford a data package it is the only feature phone that I know of that has wi-fi not only that it has the look and feel of a smart phone. I think this phone would have sold well if it was built like the Kin TWOm and did not require a Data Plan.

I have a KIN TWOm while all my friends have Androids, the only redeeming feature to me are the text messaging setup and the Zune player. I really wish i could get apps :(

Sadly it was doomed by corporate infighting that lead to Verizon losing patience with MS and saying screw you: no special data plans like we initially agreed upon. Shame because the hardware is powerful.

@dogman683 that why blackberries are becoming less, and less popular, and there market share is doping very fast. Also phones like the galaxy s2 and htc sensation with a 4.3 inch screen are becoming some of the most popular smart phones in the market. For example over 5 million galaxy s2 were sold in 3 months, and it isn't even in the usa yet. Relativity speaking 3.2 and 3.4 inch are small for smart phones. It doesn't matter how you look at it, in the smart phone market they are small.

I got one off ebay and it is confusing to say the least, It doesn't have that spot to share files and I cant upload photos to my pc for some reason. I got this because of the wi-fi connection and I'm too cheap to pay for the data plans associated with smartphones.

My grams' had one recently she really didn't know how to use it, she only got it because verizon call her up and convinced her that she needed a new phone and they could send her one. My grams' isn't that good of saying no to people over the phone, anyway before she send it back she had some pics on there and I and many others couldn't find a way to transfer the pics onto a computer, it didn't come with a cord or a disk or a sd card.

Kin marketing is what killed it. Scarily similiar to stats of the Iphone 3gs and LG optimus series, and took pics, vid, and music better than the other two at the time. They should have updated the software, as it was incomplete, slow beta at best (no message forwarding, really?), and released it as a smartphone. Instead of pushing ahead, microsoft bailed out.
