Absolute best two way forward ever. Datsyuk could’ve scored way more if he wanted to but he decided to dominate on both ends of the ice. 97 points in his best season while leading the league in takeaways and winning the Selke, that’s just insanity

His clutch factor is insane too, thinking guys today like mackinnon, Kane , Marchand they all just find a way to get it done. The video has more than a handful of goals or assists in the last 2-3 minutes and OT. He scored so many clutch goals in big games, so on top of doing on both ends but doing it in the clutch moments will always be an intangible trait he led the way in.

Kovalev was maybe more creative than Datsyuk, but he never had a coach that could motivate him to give 100% all the time. If he'd gone to Detroit when Bowman and the Russian five were there, he'd be remembered in the same category of innovators. Kharlamov could be mentioned too, although he never played in the NHL, for his era he was extremely creative in possession.

@witoldpilecki90523 ай бұрын
При желании он мог бы быть бомбардиром и т. д. Но он, как вы и говорите, действительно выбрал для себя "всю игру".. Он везде, в защите и в нападении, в средней зоне, да где угодно. McDavid has better skills, faster with the stick, very smooth. However, Datsyuk had the best "stickhandling IQ". He didn't need the fastest hands, and he had so much precision and intelligence in how to beat guys. Someone like McDavid moves his hands very fast but isn't as effective.

@@ijuka Datsyuk was the best complete hockey player. His 200ft two-way play with the combination of his brain and skills sets him apart. I’m not saying mcdavid has datsyuk hands but if you watch mcdavid take on guys head on he does the same type of thing datsyuk does he doesn’t try to make a specific move he almost just chips the puck forward losing it for a bit and he just taps it around until he can get past the defender and then retakes control of the puck. Datsyuk definitely played way ahead of his time.
@Yochillitsthatserious2 жыл бұрын
I see what you’re sayin. Datsyuk often led the league in takeaways too so there was always a sense that even if he didn’t have the puck or if he lost it briefly, if he was near it, it would be his soon. That ability to move up ice at such high speeds and maintain control through defenders illustrates the level of focus these gays can tap into. From what I’ve seen of mcDavid is his speed creates opportunities like no other, whereas Datsyuk would create opportunities with a deceptive patience, not that he wasn’t fast too just different styles. Kucherov is the closest thing we have to Datsyuk these days.
@UnhingedCanadian2 жыл бұрын
@@Yochillitsthatserious it’s different styles yes cause mcdavid uses speed but he does the same thing where he almost just pokes the puck into the defenders skates and makes it so the defender can’t touch the puck all while he advances his position until he can gain control again. It’s not just mcdavid that does it kucherov does it so do a lot of the elite stick handlers. All I was saying is mcdavid isn’t doing exactly what datsyuk is doing but you can see where maybe he stole some things that he uses in his own game. Like for example the 1v4 goal he had against the leafs or the 1 on 3 against the blue jackets he just taps the puck lightly around until he’s ahead of the defenders before he regains full control and sets up a move for the finish.
@Yochillitsthatserious2 жыл бұрын
@@UnhingedCanadian yes wasn’t disagreeing just trying to add observations. it’s amazing in the era of dump and chase to watch the elites just wizard through defenders. I’ve also noticed that there seems to be a skating technique in the mc David’s and mackinnon’s stride, how they crossover and accelerate rapidly appears to me something never been done quite that way before.
