What an amazing talent Tanya is. I'm so glad that I got to see her live a couple of times. This is such a great song and much different than most of the other Throwing Muses songs. I almost feel like being in Throwing Muses kind of held Tanya back a bit as she often wasn’t the lead. Then she went to the Breeders and once again wasn’t the lead. It was nice to see her as the lead in Belly with Feed the Tree which was a bigger hit than anything she had prior to it.
@WHJeffB
@WHJeffB Жыл бұрын
@@jimmbear3998 Yeah, it makes you wonder if Kristin not allowing more of Tanya's songs on their albums forced Tanya's hand. Same with her tenure in the Breeders. If I have my recollections straight, I think at least a few of the songs on Belly's first album were supposed to be on a follow up Breeders album. While they (Belly), still get together and do a show or tour occasionally, it would have been great to see what they would have done if they hadn't burnt out and called it quits the first time around.

Any band you catch live that sounds nearly the same as they do on their studio albums is definitely real music. My wife and I went to many shows about 10 yrs back of New Wave/Alternative artists from the '80's and '90's, and almost to the band, they sounded almost the same as their studio sound. No lip syncing or heavily processed music. Just talented musicians and vocalists.

@@miked3168 In your opinion. I spent most of the 80s listening to Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Who because what was generally on offer was total shite. Not only that, the 90s were a better time. We spent the 80s wondering if we would kiss our arses goodbye in a nuclear flash, Thatcher, Reagan, heroin to blot it all out. The 90s saw an end to the Cold War, the Berlin Wall came down, Mandela was free and there was hope. Musically there was the rave scene, Madchester, Britpop, a thriving Indie scene and Ecstasy ensured the feel good factor. The music, politics and drugs were all better in the 90s, better than the 80s and certainly better than now.

This song made me determined to learn how to play guitar. I watched the video over and over again, and luckily found the finger placements on the fret boards. The chords E, B, A, and the lead were so fun to play. I could see Kristin didn't move her hand much on the fret board to play the lead. I transcribed it and played it for my guitar teacher. He was so impressed. Now, around 18 years later, I picked up my guitar (Gibson Les Paul style, in sunburst like Tanya's) recently, and instantly started playing this. It is seriously the most fun song to play on the guitar, ever! I had my guitar signed by Tanya, too, when she visited Australia, touring in Belly. But it seems like this video is kind of the farewell for Throwing Muses. Putting Tanya front and center for 90%, and 2-3 quick clips of Kristin. Both careers full of talent. I think when we grow up in a certain era (say, the 90's) and we see all these movies and videos, and get accustomed to this era's visuals and culture, we tend to think that our future will be like that - but when we grow up, that era has long ended and we can't find what we expected when we were growing up. me too! I bookmarked it years ago in a browser that is now defunct. and another, and another. the only thing that survives is love of Throwing Muses, and of course, the subsequent band departures into other stuff (breeders was killer at lollapalooza Chicago w beasite boys and the s pumpkins). What a TALENTED FAMILY!

That's what alternative music is all about. Not for everyone but for us. This is such a great song. And Tanya Donelly looks and sings like an alternative music goddess. Really awesome. This song is nearly 30 years old and still get's me. Throwing Muses, I love you and especially Tanya. Can't get enough of you. This is not and NEVER Pop. I'm sorry :-)

So good to hear this after so long. Alternative pop /rock before it became fashionable. I'm 47 years now but I remember Steve Lamaq on radio 1 playing the Muses, Breeder, the 360's alongside the Pixies and Sonic Youth on his Evening Session programme. Memories. xx

Growing up I’m New England, I got to see them a lot. So great live! They don’t get the credit the deserve. Their signing to 4AD open the floodgates of New England indie bands like The Pixies and Miracle Legion that led to exposure in England that influenced a lot of bands over there. This video is so 1991. I love it!

I agree it should have been a bigger hit. Throwing Muses doesn’t seem like they were the best at promoting themselves for whatever reason similar to Pixies. Both of those bands could have been bigger if they were better managed IMHO

I cannot stop playing this song! First the lyrics are great and her voice is really sweet but gnarly too. It starts off punky , but pop, then goes into this 60's girl group sound. Like Shadow Morten and the Shangrilas, then Christians guitar is soo surf music like the Ventures, then the second verse with bridge is 60's again then it is a Rap at the end. You have punk, pop,girl group 60's, and Rap in one song. It shows how brilliant they were. If you don't understand the lyrics google them they are really cool.
