CACTI TALK: When handling cacti with longer spines, used a pretty thick band of folded newspaper to pick them up (for replanting, etc.). I used to have a lovely greenhouse window in my old home filled with cacti and succulents. Also, if you get small spines in your fingers try scraping them off with a credit card or butterknife. They should all just slide out. In the spring you can try planting your own seeds. Just get a flatter planter, thin layer of stones, and then soil. I also used to mix my planting soil with white sand (they sell it to fill sandboxes for kids). Cover the seeds with a fine layer of the sand. Cover with glass or clear plastic and vent when needed so you aren't steaming your seeds. Mist every other day. Its fun to see what grows. Some of the seeds are like dust. I also liked to plant some portulacas (moss roses) in little pots around my cacti and succulents. They like poor soil so they really need lots of sand in the potting mix. You can start them the same way you start the cacti. Its much cheaper than buying the pre-grown plants. The portulacas have succulent like stems (they may even be a form of succulent from Brazil. After they bloom a small ball forms on the end. When they turn yellow/brown pick them off and open them and you have next years seeds. ONE THING TO WATCH FOR: when starting your own cacti/succulents/portulacas beware of letting any fuzzy white mold start growing, cut back on misting and vent a bit more. Also just the cacti and succulents like a once or twice a month shot of fertilizer made just for them. Happy growing. You can even by winter resistant cacti seeds for use outdoors. Happy growing! I am so glad your new medication is working well for you. As an aside talk to your liver doctors about using Tylenol - it can cause liver damage. (Old LPN here.)

Cutting onions.... fill a little beaker with water, right to the brim and place close to where you are chopping the onions. The enzymes from the onion are attracted to liquid, hence making you're eyes water, so putting the cup of water close by means you don't cry! Loved to see you so active and happy Mary. And Peter, you are just the best husband! Xx

Thanks for the msg! My works is really broken atm & I'm alone! I'm new to the frey life & I love this channel. I just had my 3rd pegj feeding tube on the 11-22-19 with the relizorb enfit via j port. I'll be 48 in 3 wks & I was born with this deficiency. But just got my cp dx in 2012 thanks to the ever evolving field, yes it took this long to get the proper care! I also died from the widow Maker heart attack exactly 1 yr ago last WK due too a generic heart disease & I now have a stent. I almost didn't make it had was in a medical coma for 2 wks but there good Lord decided that I have a higher purpose so here I am, still ticking. My husband had decided to leave me after 20 yrs of marriage ( 20 yr anniversary on 12-4-19) because he doesn't believe that I'm as sick as I am & I love watching you two work together! My world is crashing down bc of losing the love of my life & I wondered if you have any advice on new relationships with being as sick as I am? I also love your furbaby! I have too put move to sleep this wk! Sincerely, my best to you both!

Get yourself some cutting boards! I really like the thin clear plastic sheets you can get at Job Lot, or Dollar stores. It scares me to see you cut on plates. I make sweet potatoes on the stove by cubing 2 large ones, add 1/2 cup brown sugar and white and half cube of butter in large saucepan, bring to boil and cook then over med low until tender and syrup thicken.

When u said we had 10 seconds to guess what was wrong with u, I thought u had a pink cheek fever going on-then I heard ur chopping😂 With ur cactuses, they may need a little more soil after watering (as the mix often sinks). I generally add soil up to the colour change on the stem-& that works real well! It’s like they have an indicator of “soil up to here please” lol!

I usually have the onions in the frig until I am ready to cut them. It is the liquid in the onion that causes the tears. Sometimes they go in the freezer if I am chopping several. You can always rinse them with cold water when you cut them in half to limit tears. (there are goggles for onion cutting too) My approach: I wear food grade gloves (so I do not have to wash my hands multiple times while cutting. After each onion put the ends and the onion skin in the trash or a in a bag that will go in the trash. I do not touch my face with onion hands, and when it is something that does not need a specific type of onion.... I go to the Veggie section in frozen foods and buy a few bags of prechopped onions.

Hope you heal fast! Do yourself a huge favor and start taking some digestive enzymes now if you don't already. Not everyone has issues after surgery with food but it can't hurt anyone to supplement with betaine HCl because as we age our stomach acid levels naturally decrease and that allows for all sorts of pathogens like candida to take hold. They will help you digest and absorb nutrients better without a gallbladder and ward off any further complications that might come from not having a gallbladder. Digestive enzymes have been a game changer for me and I never knew how important they were until I started seeing functional medicine doctors. After I had my gallbladder out at nine am, I was released from the hospital at two pm, and I was home cooking dinner for myself and three other people at seven that night. I was shocked. I've always had issues with surgery. I've had problems with anesthesia. Problems healing. I couldn't believe how easy that surgery was on me. I hope you had a good experience as well. I'm afraid not everyone does so when I see someone mention it, I make a little wish/prayer that they get through it with no complications too.

I threw up in a parking lot once. It was when I was on an antibiotic for cellulitis, and my Arby's decided it wanted to vacate my stomach post-haste. I'm sure the Chinese restaurant didn't appreciate my DNA all over their lot on that particular sunny day back in 2018. Funny story nonetheless.

Onion fix.....keep your knife wet with water. If that is not enough then cut them beside the sink and run the cold water tap while you cut them. Then put a wet paper towel over them. No more crying. Yippee!!!!!!!

Mary, put a piece of bread between your teeth when cutting the onions. The bread absorbs the "stuff" the onions emit. Try it...you never know!
