I got the new and better transformer from you and that fixed the charger. Thanks! Opening it up made me curious - what makes the clicking sound in one of these? I didn't see any obvious device that could make that noise.

The transformer is what's making the clicking sound. When the board discharges the capacitor, that energy goes through the transformer.

They don't fail right away... So you'll be good for awhile. Read the paperwork about the warranty and it was me, register it so you get the 3 year warranty. If you don't register it, you only get a 1 year warranty.

Working on one of these now. I was thinking transformer shot, give back to the owner. No it don't appear to be the transformer. SCR 1 and 3 check fine. SCR 2 don't appear to be working.305k 400 volts C4 ESR 0.8 .C2 which is same cap the ESR is really good. Board with 68 OHMs resistor and 7.5 ohms seems fine. But C7 22uf is really hi on ESR. Good video.Looks like the SCR board pulls out also. Can I buy the voltage doubled circuit with the SCR board from you

The SCR board is a separate part from the long power board. Did you check the primary side of the transformer board? If SCR 2 is bad, usually the primary side went bad as well. I will have to look and see if I have the SCR board on hand. I usually just repair the SCR board. And your sould replace all 3 of the SCR's if you're going to. Most times when SCR 2 goes, 1 & 3 are weakened and won't last. Send me an email and I can go over with you everything, [e-mail] it's on my website as well, www.fencerfixer.com

@@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity Removed the 3 SCR .Check them with analog multimeter and all where fine. Checked primary and secondary winding. Removed the 45k resistor going to the bulb because it showed open on my fluke117.Tested it out of circuit, got correct reading. Seemed to have a sticky substance like flux all around the resistor. Cleaned the board up with alcohol and reinstalled the resistor.Put it all back together and she is working fine. Not sure what fixed it, although I will take the win. Really enjoy watching your videos and hope you and yours are doing fine.

How many output joules would you recommend for a 10 mile typical fence? I was also looking for some good brands, what is your opinion on the speedrite brand?

I don't always go by miles, how many acres are you fencing in, what kind of animals are you dealing with, and will your fence be fairly clean or have a bunch of grass and stuff on it? Speedrite is overpriced hype asked you're paying for a name and not what's on the inside. The 3 brands worth looking at are #1 Gallagher, #2 Cyclops, and #3 Power Wizard. Gallagher is by far the best thing out there for long term use, but you do pay more for their quality and a 3 year warranty.

I would look at either the Gallagher M1100 or M1500 if I was going to buy one. They're both AC powered units and you need to either keep them installed inside a building or if you have to install them outside, then they need to be protected from the weather. No AC powered unit is water proof at all. They also make a dual powered units that can run off either a 12v battery or be ac powered, but the model I would look at would either be the MBS800 or the MB1000. The MBS models are more suited to be installed outside in the weather, the MB1000 would need to be protected if installed outdoors. Any of those are really well built inside and out. They're designed to run 10+ years, excluding lightning and power surges.

They're not bad, definitely better than the Zareba Blitzer American Farmworks stuff. They're pretty good for the money. They probably won't last as long as a Gallagher or Cyclops brand, but they are a little cheaper in price and I wouldn't hesitate buying one.
